| Baby Mama - PG-13 | I love Tina Fey, but even she could not save this movie. But at least it was not as bad as the trailers made it seem. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Pineapple Express - R | I laughed maybe a handful times and that was only during the scenes of gratuitous violence. The whole weed-buddy comedy thing they were going for sucked ass. I am really starting to hate these Judd Aparow & his buddies films. They all have bunch of man children doing immature things that we are supposed to find funny. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Squid and the Whale - R |
What a wonderful film about the struggles of living with a dysfunctional family. All the characters are so despicable, yet you see their reasoning for the bitterness and can relate to them in someway. The performances were absolutely phenomenal. This is definitely one of those movies you will either love or hate based on how much you relate with the characters. |

| Red Cliff (Chi Bi) - R |
Red Cliff played out exactly how I imagined a John Woo war epic would end up looking. It even has his iconic slow motion action scenes, doves and dramatic standoffs. While I loved most of the battle sequences, they had a very retro feel to them that reminded me of Asian war films from 70s & 80s. Unlike the other historic war films that came out after Hero, Red Cliff does not overly dramatize the battles ("wire-fu") and does not focus too much on vivid color design. Instead, most of the film has a very realistic production design with heavy use of grittyand realistic colors. But one of the flaws is the plot was not quite focused. John Woo obviously wanted this to be his masterpiece with an epic story, but for most part I found lot of the plot threads to be boring and self-indulgent. Also the fact that this is just the part 1 of a two part film (4 hours total) makes it hard for me to completely enjoy this film. Personally I think this film could stand to lose good 30 minutes of the extra scenes and still be just as interesting. |

| The Forbidden Kingdom - PG-13 | This is what you get when you have bunch of white guys making a wuxia film. Random fight scenes with a really stupid plot. Even the humor falls flat on it's face. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Iron Man - PG-13 | First time in a super hero movie you want to see more of the characters than the action. Robert Downey Jr. and jeff Briggs basically held the whole movie together with their great acting. Honestly without them this would be a subpar and very forgettable film. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - PG-13 | Aliens? Really? Thanks for taking a shit on my childhood. Dr. Jones is not cool anymore. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) - PG-13 | not what i expected at all...This felt like a love story/buddy comedy with bunch of outlandish characters and locations. The pacing was also terrible and the story did not really have much appeal. Nice characters designs though (usual Del Toro characters). | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Max Payne - PG-13 | What the fuck was this shit? The director should have paid a little more attention to the story and little less on the visuals. The movie is nice to look at but that quickly loses it's appeal as the story becomes complete shit. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Appaloosa - R | For most part it is a very traditional western with some solid acting. I don't think it is very memorable overall, but nevertheless I enjoyed it a lot. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Fall - R | Beautiful cinematography and wonderful story. Easily one of the best films of the year. You have to watch this in a theater to get the most out of this film. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Hancock - PG-13 | So wait what is this, a comedy, drama or some kind of bootleg superhero movie? I bet even the director could not answer that question. Overall the movie is somewhat enjoyable I guess, but I was really bothered by it's shifting tones and just messy editing. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Blade Runner - R | Ehhhh. Overrated. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Confessions of a Dangerous Mind - R |
A well assured directorial debut for Clooney, but I can't help but think how the film might have been if Spike Jonze directed it. It is well known that the screenwriter was very unhappy about how Clooney removed a lot of elements from his screenplay. But still it's a wonderful film with some great acting by the severely underrated, Sam Rockwell. |

| Burn After Reading - R |
Hilarious satire of spy/thriller films. The movie does not just spoof common spy film cliches. Instead it uses those exact cliches in the plot and then pushes them a little bit over the edge while mixing them with usual Coen brothers deadpan humor style. This is a movie that takes time in setting up it's jokes that by the time they deliver you will laughing your ass off. I love how every element of this film is a spy movie cliche. Everything from the starting earth zoom, dramatic tracking shots of someone walking down the hallway, generic thriller music and convoluted plot threads. I don't know if this movie will hold up on multiple views, but I had a blast watching it in theaters. |

| Wanted - R | Holy shit this movie is kickass. The story does not really matter, but the action scenes are amazing. Watching this in theaters reminded me very much of watching The Matrix in theaters for first time. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| City of Ember - PG | Where the hell is the third act? The movie kept developing the story and introducing us to the situation for 3/4 of the movie. Then everything felt rushed and thrown on screen at the last minute when they realized nothing has really been happening so far. Terrible by even kid movie standards. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| WALL-E - G | Wonderful first half, but the last half of the film ends up developing like a usual Pixar film with chases, cute characters and feel good ending. I was disappointed by the directing they went for the end of the film because everything before that was Best Picture Oscar material. But still all the scenes with Wall-E on Earth were truly spectacular. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Taken - PG-13 | Liam Neeson as an action hero...yeah it's hard to imagine, but he actually pulls it off very well. This is exactly how Quantum of Suckass should have been done. Taken spend the first 30 minutes setting up the characters and taking it's time developing the story. But everything after that was an awesome revenge story with some well directed action scenes. | November 24, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Everything is Illuminated - PG-13 | Wonderfully directed with some very dream-like cinematography, but it has noting else going for it. It has the usual quirkiness of a generic indie film, but overall I felt it did not have anything that significant to say. The story arc was very limited and the whole "discovering yourself with on a trip" thing they were going for did not come across very well. Well acted and well directed, but it loses it's steam after the first half. | November 24, 2008 | N/A |
