Love this movie but I have three problems with it: the ending, some of the dialogue and the "sex" scene.

Whatever your personal or technical definition of a perfect film is, it will always be biased based on what, you, personally relish. This, to me, is a perfect film from beginning to end. No flaws whatsoever. Am I being biased? Absolutely. I love this movie so much and have done so ever since I first set eyes upon it. Everything about this movie is perfect. The cast is rich and entertaining, the writing is witty and strong, the cinematography is gorgeous and the soundtrack is excellent. Not to mention the strong and clever direction of Edgar Wright. I can't deflate arguments about big epic films or even sweeping dramas being personal favorites, but when it comes to just pure joy to behold something incredible, this film is it. It just clicks with me the way no other film does. It made me want to be a filmmaker in one viewing. Now that my sights are set upon it, whatever a career I might have, I can always look at back at this film for the utmost inspiration and the quality of entertainment it holds. I hold it in the highest esteem.

Sci-fi films and horror films that came out of the 1970's were generally adventure films or slasher films, respectively. Nothing wrong with either of those things, but when you look at the work that came out of that era and compare this film to all of that, you quickly realize that there is no comparison. It is almost a genre unto itself, and that is the mark of a masterwork. This is very close to being my favorite film ever. It was also the first film that taught me the most about atmosphere and cinematography, in general. The story itself is very B-Movie, but the execution is so damned brilliant, and it's easy to see why a lot of filmmakers herald this as an early influence, and why space was longer a safe place after the film's release. The cast is superb, the look is timeless and the film still terrifies audiences to this day. With a mix of It! The Terror From Beyond Space, a bit of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a few drops of 2001: A Space Odyssey and of course, Star Wars, Ridley Scott achieved something quite stunning. Next to Blade Runner, this is his finest work. A masterpiece.
