The Pervert's Guide to Cinema - Unrated Slavoj Zizek brings his study of philosophy and psychoanalysis to bear on some of the great masterworks of film, examining them for hidden and not-so-hidden symbolism. This is strictly for those who like to do more than mindlessly watch movies. This is an exercise in dissection and, sometimes, in self-projection. Zizek reminds us of the importance of context and of viewing productions with a social perspective.

It's arguable that the information presented here is completely accurate. Film, like any other visual media, is subject to interpretation and debate. Still, this is compelling stuff. Very educational.

La Soufrière - Warten auf eine unausweichliche Katastrophe - Unrated "The sea was full of dead snakes. They had crawled down during the night by the thousands from the mountain Soufriere and fled into the sea where they promptly drowned."

Werner Herzog takes his documentary lens where most fear to tread, the island of Guadeloupe where a seemingly inevitable volcanic eruption has turned a once bustling city into a ghost town. Herzog shows little fear (and common sense) as he scopes out the island and it's very few remaining inhabitants. Intriguing real-life drama that, through no fault of the film makers, is happily anticlimactic.

La Jetée (The Pier) - Unrated "The victors stood guard over a kingdom of rats."

Experimental, avant-garde depiction of post-apocalyptic time travel told through a series of stills in slide-show progression. As odd as that sounds, the whole thing works very, very well.
