In response to your first Indiana Jones experience, watch Raiders and The Last Crusade. The Temple Of Doom (the second in the series) was the weakest of the series until now and if you do you will understand how The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is an embarrassment to the franchise.
While all of these films have exaggerated common sense on many levels, they have been fun and the character interaction and dialog helps to compensate for the simplicity of these films. They are made for fun but when you over do it, it leads to this kind of garbage.
Bland characters, a bunch of CGI and a terrible story make for Star Wars Ep. 1-3 in comparison.
I don't know what your feelings are on those films but it draws very close similarities to this one for me. George Lucas cannot write anymore and it hurts deeply.
I saw Raiders Of The Lost Ark when it first came out in theaters. Three times. I was blown away at the imagination and effort that went into that film.
Lucas at the time was at his peak. Now sadly, I believe he's all about computer graphic imagery with plot, story and characters taking a back seat.
Star Wars Ep. 4-6 were so story and character driven, the special effects were secondary. Now it seems the opposite.
