Cenizas del Paraiso
by RhadyAn underrated jewel of Argentinean cinema in which nothing is what it seems and the truth is not an option.
This is one of my favorite thrillers ever. A gripping story and an amazing cast that includes Argentinian stars Cecilia Roth, Hector Alterio and Leonardo Sbaraglia. Director Marcelo Piñeyro has other films, but this is his by far his best work to date. Highly recommended!

Oui, la suite laisse a desirer. C'est clair que je vais l'acheter pour completer la "serie" mais apart de ca j'etais un peu decu. Je crois que c'est domage que aoi miyazaki ne soit pas retourner pour le deuxieme.

Kiraware Matsuko no isshô (Memories of Matsuko)

This film follows a woman named matsuko through her (short) life. Her story is one filled with pain, honor, and tragedy. We see her put her trust in scumbag after scumbag and fall into trap after trap, and struggle through it all while remaining just as pure.
One cannot help but feel depressed after this, which is a surprise considering all of the sugary, bright setpieces and lighting schemes.
This film has a cliched plot, but what it does with it is highly innovative, and the whole visual concept of the film is stunning. I can definitely say this is one of the best technical achievements (in cinema) to come out of japan lately.
This film has something very rare that not many other films have...high style AND high substance.Hey, you should really see this!
