Synecdoche, New York

Another example of Charlie Kauffman’s brutal brilliance. The film takes a new approach to the old Shakespearian adage that “All the world’s a stage,” and then presents it in the context of existential nihilism. The film exposes the irony, meaninglessness and absurdity of life which gradually amplifies until the final disheartening line in the movie, “Die.” Inherently depressing, this is a film to watch to explore a different world view derived from despair and albeit a very human feeling, one would hope that it doesn’t impact too often in one’s life.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

A very tedious two and a half hours of purgatory. The film was stuffing in the middle of a larger franchise. As usual, Harry and his friends were sufficiently annoying to glut me to the next instalment. It’s not hard to see that I’m tepid with the Harry series but it was exciting to see the beautiful Helena Bonham Carter again.
