Movie: Auntie Mame, Dark Crystal, LOTR, Steel Magnolias: see my list
Actor: see my list for some of the current ones
Director: no one bats 1000 (except maybe Hitchcock)
Quote: The more you drive over a dead cat, the flatter it gets.
About Me
Since this is about movies: I like adventure and romance and mystery and sci-fi and Disney and happy endings. Not into extreme violence for its own sake. Happy endings - I like "Steel Magnolias", "Brokeback Mountain", "Sixth Sense", so "happy" isn't the same as "happily ever after". Also I don't enjoy "Saw" "Halloween" or other 'blood for its own sake' movies. I am also gay (not looking for a girlfriend); in a relationship for 26 years (not looking for a boyfriend either).

Auntie Mame 1. Auntie Mame Unrated 5.0 Stars
Corney, perhaps, but a classic. Mame is a genuine person and Roz is brilliant. "Life is a banquet, but most ... are starving to death." We can learn from her enthusiastic embrace of life.
The Dark Crystal 2. The Dark Crystal PG 5.0 Stars
totally excellent movie by J Henson. Good vs evil - much more than that.
Connie And Carla 3. Connie And Carla PG-13 5.0 Stars
There is not one thing I don't like about this movie. Well, maybe Nia knocks David over a lot. Great acting; great music; and David's reaction to "the kiss" is worth the price of a ticket.
Cutthroat Island 4. Cutthroat Island PG-13 5.0 Stars
This movie is great adventure and too much fun. I laugh at "bad dog" every tme I watch it... and count the number of times Modine gets slapped on the back of his head.
Ever After - A Cinderella Story 5. Ever After - A Cinderella Story PG 5.0 Stars
Beautiful and fun. Drew B is excellent - again.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 6. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire PG-13 5.0 Stars
I like all of them! But the books ARE better; they are MY imagination. The movies are a different media and my own imagination has little control. But I love them! This one is my least favorite because the director was unfaithful to the spirit of the book in two of the three tournaments.

Thank God, as I'd heard, this film was MUCH better than the pathetic waste of space that was the 2006 remake.

It's not hard to enjoy this film, despite the fact that it was made 34 years ago. Yes, you have to do your best to put yourself in the shoes of a 1974 moviegoer, but it's not too hard.

It was actually creepy, and funny in parts too (intentionally). Also, I laughed at some of the fashion/style of dress (what's up with the white people 'fros?)

Much better and I wish I had seen this one first.
Wrong time of the year maybe, but finally got around to seeing this. Worth a rent for sure.

Don't shit your breeches, it's the 1974 version.

Enjoyable if predictable tale of two men linked forever to the past. "Falls" short in the end.
If you are a big fan of either costar you will probably enjoy this one.

OK, this has been done before, several times...and the whole, "I see Asian dead people" isn't scary or even creepy, but...

It was still better than I thought it was going to be, and it was nice to see Joshua Jackson in a halfways mainstream film for once. I do think he's a good actor who needs a new agent.

There was a "twist" in the middle which I figured out almost right away and a twist at the end which made it cool and enough to make it worth watching the DVD.

I will say that studios either need to abandon the whole genre tho entirely, or do something to liven it up a bit. Maybe a J horror-inspired ORIGINAL non-remake film that's not totally based on dead people haunting the living...
Good for fans of Joshua Jackson, or if you a fan of the genre. Otherwise, nothing too special.

Amazingly funny in a perfectly witty way that says a big FUCK YOU to political correctness and just has a good time with itself.

Also very shocking at times, and expertly acted by Farrell and Gleeson in a way that pulled us in to their characters so well.

    YOU must see this!

OK, I know I had originally decided I didn;t want to see this film but I changed my mind.

And it's pretty decent for what it is. Yes, there are definitely a lot of "funny parts" that just aren't funny (like what was the deal with Bill Murray in the tree?), but I did laugh enough to be mostly satisfied.

I still see Hathaway as a one-trick pony who gets parts for her looks and by playing characters with personalities so close to what I imagine is her own.

Most of you will wait for the DVD. No need to rush out.
Funny enough, but nothing amazing. Wait for the DVD.

Fatal flaw, a scary movie that isn't scary. A more apt title would be "Gone With the Mist". Thumbs down.
Hey, you should really avoid this! Couldn't stand the stereotypical bible thumping character played by Marcia Gay Harden, although I do enjoy her work. Didn't like the ending either. Big thumbs down!

The Dark Knight The Dark Knight
    5.0 Stars by Brian
Some of you might hate me for this review, but at least read it before you string me from the rafters.

The Dark Knight delivers more than even Iron Man or The Crystal Skull could. And it makes the Incredible Hulk look like a joke. It's easily the best Batman of the franchise,

Bale makes Keaton look frumpy and Clooney Clooney look like a bad joke.

Heath Ledger's performance WAS amazing. I was amazed at how he took all of himself out of the character of the Joker and just WAS the joker.

The supporting characters also were expertly cast and did great job.

The one thing I'm not compelled to do is what I considered a lot of people's over-exaggeration/ I'm not speechless, it didn't make me cry, iy's not the best movie of all time (all of which I read in different reviews_. This, s I said, is just a slight overstatement in my opinion that makes me uncomfortable.

However, I will say that The Dark Knight delivers amazingly as the best "summer film" of this year. It's pacing is near perfect and it is totally deviod of cheesy one-liners and moments that made me cringe.

For all this, it gets five starts from mw. Because it delivers.

    But it's not a masterpiece.

To me, the plot/story of Charlie Bartlett is most certainly secondary to that of Anton Yelchin's acting, and the interplay between him and Downey and Davis.

Hope Davis is inspired casting, but this film just really showcases Yelchin's acting ability.

The plot is OK, and the execution is admittedly aimed at a younger audience than I, but it's still fun to watch and will be enjoyable to a wide audience.

I wanted to see this mostly because I am a far of Elizabeth Banks (Scrubs) and it looked like it had potential as far as the rest of the cast goes.

Unfortunately it was really slow and Ryan Reynolds' overly-makeuped/fake-tanned face got on my nerves (make up artists, ease up please!).

It did have a cute ending tho. But it was a struggle getting there.

Nothing special. See if you are a fan of the genre, and especially of one of the actors.

I had heard about this incident several years ago on one of the ingestigative crime shows and was curious, and have been meaning to watch this film for a while.

Both Kinnear and Dafoe are believeable, if Dafoe creppily so. Makes me curious about what ACTUALLY happened.

Worth seeing, but not for everyone.

I guess no one really liked this one that much, or so it seems, but to me this was perfectly in line with Donnie Darko and Richard Kelly.

Jesus H. Christ, Almighty, of course this isn't for everyone, but then neither is Donnie Darko

You have to pay attention, suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride. And I did.

Got this one for my personal collection and I need to watch it again.

Great cast, great music, some great lines, and the same tripped out mind Richard Kelly fans will love!
