Perfection on film. Everything about this was just right as it all folded together into the grand scheme of things. They say that the ending of a movie decides whether or not it is great and the ending was more than great.
Kubrick showed the world was film could do that wasn't possible in any other medium. This is the movie that proves he is the greatest and his influence on cinema with this movie alone is worth the 5 stars alone.
People complain that the "protagonist" is too unlikable and for that alone they don't like this movie. To them I say that just proves how powerful he was as a character. Malcolm McDowell really proves how great he is with this one. He makes Alex his own and I honestly can't imagine anyone else playing him. One more great from the master.
I consider this movie to be one of my greatest influences when it comes to movies. Everything about this movie doesn't disappoint. Some may think it's slow but I was too busy being memorized by what has happening on screen.
Scorsese and De Niro do everything possible to take you into the twisted mind of Travis Bickle. You see NYC through his eyes and learn to detest it as he does.
I think this may just be my favorite Jimmy Stewart movie. Stewart as nice-guy (albeit slightly alcoholic) Elwood P. Dowds is one of the most memorable characters in movie history. Him and his pal "Harvey" can be considered one of the greatest duos in a film. James Stewart's monologue on how he met his 6 foot furry friend always gets me as you can really tell where he's coming from. "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me."
A perfect blend of drama and action. One of the greatest opening scenes as the first half hour alone validates that Spielberg deserved the Oscar. Tom Hanks gives another great performance as the band's captain. Between Spielberg and Hanks (an the outstanding supporting cast) you are part of World War II.
This is quite simply the greatest horror movie ever made. Stanley Kubrick made two normal girls scarier than any child dressed in white makeup ala The Ring/Grudge. When you're feeling edgy just by watching Danny ride his tricycle through the hallways you know that this is a great horror flick.
Barry Lyndon. The tale of one man's rise and eventual fall. The images of Europe are beautiful as are the candle lit interior scenes. Troops walking right into enemy gunfire, Barry's son being thrown from his horse, the final duel. It's all amazing and they all stand out as great moments in cinema.
One of the greatest, flawless scripts ever written. A classic love tale that really shines with thanks given to Bogey himself. Memorable scenes, memorable lines and memorable characters are all the proof you need to tell this movie deserves to be considered a classic.
