An amazing, heartbreaking, profoundly unsettling film. Beautifully shot, wonderfully acted. Thomas Turgoose, the film's 13 year old star, is a revelation.
Fucking brilliant, through and through, and anyone who says otherwise needs to watch it again. This is Quentin Tarantino's best film... well, maybe tied with Kill Bill.
I Am Legend is a really fun "turn off your brain" sort of movie. Sure, there are plot holes. Sure, the CGI beasties might have been better with real people and some CGI jaw work or something. Sure, the ending is a little bit Hollywood. But it's a WILL SMITH movie, folks. Forget the book (if you've read it) and just enjoy a really suspenseful, surprisingly emotionally engaging action flick.
Terrific cast, wonderfully inventive score, terrific pacing... but it suffers -- greatly -- from not really having much of a point besides depicting a tragic love story. (Yes, I realize there is an attempt at giving the film a point with older Briony at the end, but I wasn't buying it.)
