The Incredible Hulk
PG-13
The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star rating for me is the exlusion of some character building moments that have supposedly been cut from the finished film. Not that the movie is lacking of great characterization, but it's what sets this apart from the perfection that was Iron Man.
On the positive side, anyone who has ever been a fan of old Jade Jaws, whether in the comics or (especially) the Bill Bixby TV series, owes it to themselves to see this as soon as possible. It's EVERYTHING the first film wasn't, and it had me grinning ear to ear from beginning to end. Edward Norton and Lyv Tyler were perfect, especially Norton who I swear gave me weird flashback chills whenever they flashed a closeup on his eyes turning green. I swear the man was channeling Bixby at times. And William Hurt looked like Jack Kirby's General Ross come to life. Absolutely spot on treatment of the Hulk himself, with a more monstrous, less goofy appearance this time.

Iron Man
PG-13
One of the most faithful comicbook movie adaptations yet. Perfect casting, great effects, and plenty of winks and nods to lifelong comic fans such as myself. An intelligent but very witty script makes for a movie that anyone of any age or gender can enjoy whether you have picked up an issue of the comic or not. The only slight complaint I had was that near the end, Paltrow seemed a little off in her acting, but that is nitpicking in the slightest. This will be in theaters for a while still, but don't put it off til it's too late, this is meant to be seen on the big screen!
Day of the Dead (2008)
R
I want to make it clear to everyone that it really takes a lot to ruin a zombie movie for me, but dammit, this just pisses me off. Not only is this NOT a remake of the George Romero original, it's also not a followup to the excellent Dawn Of The Dead remake that played theatrically a couple years ago. To further confuse the issue, a couple (but not all) of the characters have the same names as characters in the original movie, and Ving Rhames is in this but has nothing to do with his character (or the referenced brother) from the Dawn remake. Confused yet? As for the movie itself, the zombies aren't traditional zombies as they are created from a virus that turns people into them, and for some reason instantly rots their skin. They not only run around but are hyper fast and can even climb on walls and ceilings like Spider-Man. I shit you not. Characters are straight out of a made for Sci-Fi Channel movie, including the one I am really getting tired of: the confrontational, racist, comedy relief but not funny at all african american that seems to serve no purpose but to have each of the characters get into arguments with each other. Gore is plentiful, but too reliant on CGI, and no nudity whatsoever. Not that I was expecting any, but it would have gotten another star in my rating if it was there.
The Ruins
R
I usually try not to compare movies to the original source material of the novels they are based on, and try to judge them on their own merits, but I will say that for the most part, fans of the book will probably be pleased with the final product. I thought the casting was great, as the actors really gave it their all with this, and were totally believable. While it wasn't as gory or cringe inducing, as the book, the red stuff does flow in this one and the R rating was well represented. Even had a bit of T and A at the beginning. Overall it was a lot of fun and disturbing at time and was a welcome change from the subpar slashers of late, and the endless proliferation of weak watered down J-Horror remakes infesting multiplexes *cough* Shutter *cough* ahem. I reccomend it.
Shutter
PG-13
Somewhat predictable film with a lot of the blame put on plot elements revealed in the trailer. Also, the PG-13 rating which usually doesn't hamper decently made J-Horror movies such as The Grudge and The Ring, was a great disservice to this one, as it could have greatly benefitted from some more gory deaths. But we all know how this works by now...put out an inferior product in theaters with a lower rating to get a larger demographic in the seats and then months later release an "unrated" DVD with scenes "too shocking to be seen in theaters" On the plus side, there is some beautiful Japanese scenery on display and the final scene of the movie is very amusing in an EC Comics "just desserts" sort of way.
