| Quote: | Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all. Thoreau said, "Most men lead lives of quiet desperation." Don't be resigned to that. Break out! |
| I am a big music fan and movie junkie. I think both music and movies should be embraced as one as they are both intricate pieces of art. I try to remain open minded when watching movies. My favourite style of movies has to be psychological thrillers such as 'The Machinist". |

Donnie Darko
R
Dark, beautiful and pure unadulterated genius. If you are a very "black and white" kind of person then you might have a hard time with this movie. It requires somewhat of an open mind. Donnie Darko tell the story of a 15 year old boy that is visited by a dark bunny who tells him when the world is going to end and manipulates Donnie into doing various deeds for him. As the story goes on more and more makes sense, until the end comes and you will most likely be lost. This is a movie that you have to watch over and over again. I am still learning new things every time I watch it. Fantastic movie, probably my favourite. Just so riveting and dream like. You will fall in love with it eventually, I guarantee.

Apocalypse Now
R
Epic, truly epic. Depicts both the glory and fear of war. Mixes action with psychological subject matter, such as the human nature of killing. Marlon Brando is amazing in this movie, he adds so much magic to it in the short period of time that he is on screen.

The Machinist
R
The ending to this was great, never saw it coming. Reminds me a lot of Fight Club. Christian Bale's acting is stunning, and the fact that he shed all that weight to the extent that doctor's feared for his life, says quite aot.

This Is Spinal Tap
R
Simply hilarious. One of the few movies that I can watch over and over again and still laugh at the comedy content. A real depiction of the glam, cock rock bands of the 70's and 80's. The character's are great and instantly lovable, the humour is top notch, and the story flows perfectly.

Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story
Unrated
This is by far the funniest movie I have ever seen. I watched it hundreds of times, yet it is still as funny as day one. With lines like "my shirt says number 2 because I'm the s**t" how can you really go wrong. A little slow at times, but the humour here is so easy going that you can't help but love it.

Hancock
by JamesForget the talk that this is another superhero movie. It actually has nothing to do with that genre. Indeed, Will Smith has magnificent super powers and, once he straightens himself up (he begins the movie essentially as a homeless drunkard), does in fact become a modern-day Superman. But this film doesn't follow the same path nor does it even closely resemble a typical superhero movie. There's heart, emotion, intelligence and some fantastic comedic relief imbedded in a unique storyline. Add ultra-sexy Charlize Theron in an interesting role and several unexpected plot twists and you've got a blockbuster in the making. And of course, Will Smith's star power is what carries the film, which just goes to show how good an actor the man is. Worth multiple viewings. A hell of a fun movie.
A heck of a fun movie that's surprisingly deep and engaging. I was impressed.

WALL-E
by JamesI thought Pixar had topped itself with Finding Nemo. That is, until I saw this movie. WALL-e is an absolute feast for the eyes visually with perhaps the greatest animation work in cinematic history. Also one of the most heartfelt, intelligent and fun films I've ever seen. Pixar has gotten progressively better and more daring with each film and each time have pulled it off with flair and set the bar for all other animation production houses to reach. I am utterly amazed at how Pixar was able to turn something as unemotional and static as a moving hunk of metal and give it a soul. I wanted to put my arms around WALL-e and hug him. A slam dunk for the Best Animated Film Oscar and an honest-to-God candidate for the 2009 Best Picture Oscar. It's that good.

Wanted
by JamesEasily the most kick-assed, visually pleasing and adrenaline ride of a movie to come out since The Matrix. Extremely bloody and violent, but also jaw-droppingly good with great special effects, acting, creative direction and cinematography and action sequences that will make you jump out of your seat and hurl your popcorn into the next row. Pay no attention to the talk that this is a rip-off of The Matrix. Admittedly the special effects of this film are indeed heavily inspired by the Matrix and the use of the "bullet-time" technology is never lacking, but it is only used to enhance the already well-written storyline, not for the sake of putting something incredibly cool in a dull movie. Angelina Jolie has never looked better (watch for the flash of her perfect behind midway through, worth the price of admission on its own). A superb adaptation of the graphic novel and despite lacking the biggest trademark of Mark Millar's masterpiece (the characters in the movie don't have super powers like superheroes. They do in the comic), still sets the bar higher for all future action movies to follow. An absolute crotch rocket of a film.
Hands down the best action movie to come out since the original Matrix a decade ago. Worth a viewing just to see Angelina Jolie look hot, fire guns and show her body off. God, I envy Brad.
