My Favorite Movies

  hebawom's Rating My Rating
1
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001,  R)
The Royal Tenenbaums
I can't really put into words why I think this is a perfect movie, but everything here is spot on. Wes Anderson knew exactly what he was doing, every shot is sublime, the soundtrack is awesome, and the story covers every human emotion. I usually feel drained by the time Ben Stiller has said "Dad, it's been a rough year"!!!
2
The Matrix (1999,  R)
The Matrix
This was one of those films that when you come out of the cinema, you think your life just changed forever.
Several weeks after watching this movie I was still thinking about it.
There are a lot of christian themes here which makes it even better for me
3
Fight Club (1999,  R)
Fight Club
"I am Jack's complete lack of surprise" was the opposite of my feelings when the twist was revealed!!!
I remember this was released in the same week as The Sixth Sense in England and I couldn't persaude anyone to go and see it as it got overshadowed my Haley Joel Osment. Mostly people were put off by the title - their loss obviously!
4
Jurassic Park (1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park
An intelligent, scary and riveting book converted to the film of the '90s!
This won the oscar for best visual effects in 1994 - and that was totally deserved. All the way back in '94 we'd seen nothing like this before. It's stood the test of time - 12 years on and it still looks the business!
5
Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003,  R)
Kill Bill: Volume 1
Tarantino is like the only person in main-stream cinema who's not afraid to do something that breaks with convention.
This film has got B&W sequences, manga, slo-mo, voice overs etc etc. It's got style coming out its ears!!
6
V for Vendetta (2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
Vividly vivacious and victorious vision of vengence!!

Hugo Weaving was senational in this movie. He grabbed my attention from the very first scene. I loved the dialoge and the film just looked amazing!

Pulp Fiction (1994,  R)
Pulp Fiction
This is probably the best example of what Tarantino is capable of.
This film is packed with awesome dialoge. For example "Any of you fuc*ing pigs move and I'll execute every motherfuc*ing last one of you!" Such grace and beauty in these words it makes me want to weep openly!

"Why don't you pull the trigger and find out!!"
When I was 16 I thought this was the best film in the world, when I watched it last year, it's was still as good as it ever was!!

This film blew me away. I'm not sure this would work on a 12" portable TV though - best to see it at the cinema. Pete Jackson has now cemented himself in Hollywood
53
Scarface (1983,  R)
54
Twelve Monkeys (12 Monkeys) (1995,  R)
55
The Notebook (2004,  PG-13)
The Notebook
Firstly, I'm a boy. We're not supposed to get emotional at films are we? Well, I was a mess in this film!
To me, it captured the meaning of love. Enduring love lasting generations, overcoming every obstacle.
When I told my mum the storyline to this film, her eyes started filling up - with just the plot description!!
