BEST DAMN MOVIE OF ALL TIME AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. the characters and plot are flawless and fast paced, full of twists, turns and makes you think. the plot again is so smart and in my opinion is one of the best ever. the sound effects and music are you kidding me? brilliant. i swear the villians in this movie are the best ever sean bean was amazing as alec and famke jannsen is one badass in this one. pierce is james bond. flawless acting and amazing storyline. see this one i hope you agree this movie is the best
The movie is kinetic, atmospheric, visually stunning, and mind-bending. It toys with the boundaries between reality and fantasy in unique and interesting ways. In its approach and content, it reminded me of last year's vastly underrated Dark City. There's also a synergy with two movies due to be released within the next month: David Cronenberg's eXistenZ and Alejandro Amenabar's Open Your Eyes. The Matrix is undeniably science fiction, but, unlike most pictures claiming that association, it never falls into the boring, expected patterns of space battles and laser gun shoot-outs. Instead, it ventures into territory that, while not virgin, is sufficiently interesting to provide an involving, invigorating backdrop.
Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) is leading a double life. To most people, he's a hard-working computer programmer who holds down a nine-to-five job for a major software corporation. But, in the privacy of his home, he's a hacker named Neo who is "guilty of virtually every computer crime [there's] a law for." Neo is dissatisfied with his existence, and, while he's groping for a meaning to it, he is contacted by a mysterious computer presence known as Morpheus. "Wake up Neo," a printout on his monitor screen reads. "The Matrix has you. Follow the white rabbit." And so begins an amazing odyssey for both Neo and the audience.
It turns out that Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) is the captain of a small space ship, and he believes that Neo is a messianic figure. When the two finally meet, Morpheus explains to Neo that all is not as it seems. The reality he is used to is a fabrication, the product of a sinister race of intelligent machines that use human beings as power supplies, to be discarded at will. Neo is dubious, and Morpheus sets out to show him the truth. Soon, he is learning how to manipulate the Matrix: a computer-generated dreamworld built by the machines to control human minds. But danger lurks ahead for Morpheus and his small band of followers. The goal of the machines is to eliminate all free humans, and their most powerful weapons, the Sentient Agents (who look like Men in Black), are closing in. Led by Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), their goal is to capture Morpheus and pry the secrets from his brain.
There's much more to The Matrix than this, but to explain further would be to reveal plot twists better discovered through viewing. Although the film frequently toys with the blurred line between grim reality and computer-generated fantasy, it rarely leaves the viewer completely confused (except, perhaps, at the very beginning). The Wachowskis have carefully structured the story in such a way that the audience is capable of following the action and understanding what's going on even when all of the secrets have not been revealed. Nevertheless, because The Matrix is intelligent, it will defeat those unwilling to invest some intellectual participation. The payoff is worth the effort.
Stylistically, The Matrix is much like Bound. Both films are visually stunning, with images painstakingly constructed and action sequences choreographed to excite the eye and quicken the pulse. The Wachowskis use a varied pallette that includes shadows, slow motion, quick cuts, and offbeat humor to paint a unique portrait. Like in Dark City, theirs is a grim world, where darkness and gloom seemingly always hold sway. Everything from the set design to the costumes (lots of black, lots of sunglasses) is intended to contribute to an overall look. When it comes to shoot-outs, the Wachowskis show that John Woo isn't the only director capable of doing interesting things with familiar devices. The shots of Keanu Reeves streaking down a hall with guns blazing all around him and the air thick with shattered bits of concrete is only one of many snapshots that lingers in the mind's eye long after they have vanished from the screen. The special effects, which are not as numerous as those in many science fiction pieces, are flawless
Fucking stupendous! The CGI effects are amazing.
With a somber ending in The Empire Strikes Back suggesting that Darth Vader has won the day, nobody wants a story to end right there. In everyone's mind, the good guys have to eventually win the war. With that comes Return of the Jedi, the sixth episode marking the final chapter of the saga. It's hard to say which of the films of the original trilogy is the best, but this film has the most spectacular space battle of the three. Not only that. There are two other simultaneous battles: one in a forest and the other in a second Death Star.
The beginning of the film functions mainly to reunite the main characters. 3PO, R2, Luke, Leia, and Lando all try to free Han Solo from his encasement in carbonite in the palace of Jabba the Hutt. After a deadly fight in the desert over a monster pit, the allies escape and plan their next action against the Empire. This part of the movie also serves to tie some loose ends with Luke. When he returns to Dagobah, he witnesses the death of Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi's spirit. Not only does he learn the truth about Darth Vader, but also another family secret.
Darth Vader once again makes his appearance, but this time alongside someone even more menacing and ruthless: Emperor Palpatine. We also get a glimpse of the Emperor's inner sanctum, complete with an Imperial Royal Guard whose faces are completely concealed. With Palpatine's presence, Darth Vader and the rest of the Imperial officers become simply pawns in our eyes. That is significant, because as Luke Skywalker believes, even Darth Vader has a little bit of good in him and not fully seduced by the Dark Side of the Force.
The film after the desert scenes takes place on the forest planet of Endor, populated by short furry creatures called Ewoks. There haven't been any cute creatures seen in the Star Wars films so far (except Yoda, maybe), and with them, there even seems to be some extra humor added to one of the final three battle scenes. For some, it may make the film have less of a dark tone, but then again, aren't 3PO and R2 more of the humorous characters in the film? After all, they don't do too much direct fighting and are just caught in the middle of everything.
Nevertheless, Return of the Jedi is a marvelous film that still delivers what A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back had given to the fans. It has characters we care about, a plot that engrosses our imagination, and impressive visual effects leave us in absolute awe. The musical score by John Williams continues to be great, using familiar themes established in Episodes IV and V. The film ends the Star Wars series nicely simply because its ending is a heartwarming wrapup. In the battle of good versus evil, evil has been rooted out, and the good folks of the galaxy rejoice, which the last scene of the film does a great job portraying.
WHERE THE FUCK DO I START? THIS MOVIE BEGINS WITH A BANG SO YOU BETTER BE PREPARED FOR ACTION THIS MOVIE IS ACTION PACKED THE FUCKING MIND BLASTING EFFECTS LEAVE YOU WITH YOUR JAW ON THE FLOOR, FULL OF TWISTS CHARACTERS WERE AMAZING AND THIS MOVIE HAS IT ALL NUDITY, VIOLENCE, COARSE LANGUAGE (THE WORKS) GOES BEYOND THE LIMITS AND IS THEREFORE HANDS DOWN BEST FUCKING MOVIE OF 2009 sin city meets batman mixed with the matrix all in one if you loved those movies you have to see this. a fucking work of art, visuals, plot, characters, sex scenes this has everything you could want. the comedian (dean morgan) should win an oscar for supporting role as it was an amazing performance. Watchmen takes the well-worn superhero format and turns it on its head. As you would expect from a movie of this genre you get a tale of attempted world domination by evil baddies, good guys wearing latex costumes, fistfuls of action and spectacular special effects. What you would not expect is to have this interwoven with eye-watering violence (a scene where one particularly nasty bad guy gets a meat cleaver brought down on his forehead being one example), full frontal male nudity (albeit computer generated) and rampant satire. The US political system, military posturing and blind patriotism are all given a bit of a roasting by David Hayter and Alex Tse's script. Add to this a host of compelling performances, notably Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach and Patrick Wilson as Nite Owl, and you have an exceptional cinematic experience.
Watchmen is no ordinary superhero movie and likely to manage the difficult feat of satisfying both the fan-boys and the uninitiated punters (like myself). Its success means it must be highly likely that there will be a sequel ? if not several. Catch this early if you can and be one of the first to witness that rarefied thing in cinema it was also funny when that filipino pregnant woman got shot in the head by the comedian LOL!!! something beautiful, exciting and original. One of the best superhero movies ever made Period. Makes dark knight look like a piece of shit. 5 out of 5 ***** Fucking exhilarating.
