Shutter
by BrianOK, this has been done before, several times...and the whole, "I see Asian dead people" isn't scary or even creepy, but...
It was still better than I thought it was going to be, and it was nice to see Joshua Jackson in a halfways mainstream film for once. I do think he's a good actor who needs a new agent.
There was a "twist" in the middle which I figured out almost right away and a twist at the end which made it cool and enough to make it worth watching the DVD.
I will say that studios either need to abandon the whole genre tho entirely, or do something to liven it up a bit. Maybe a J horror-inspired ORIGINAL non-remake film that's not totally based on dead people haunting the living...Good for fans of Joshua Jackson, or if you a fan of the genre. Otherwise, nothing too special.

Le Scaphandre et le Papillon (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly)
by the dudeJust a brilliant mesh of everything. sound, cinematography, acting, and everything else. I felt emotinally drained afterwards when the film ending. The film asks us if we have lived the way we want to live, and how we would respond if a unforunate situation would happen to us. Julian Schnabel's brillant direction puts us into Jean Do's view of life and through out the film we live through him going through his struggles of everyday. A highly original masterpiece that will make you want to watch it over and over as it absorbs into your skin.

In Bruges
by BrianAmazingly funny in a perfectly witty way that says a big FUCK YOU to political correctness and just has a good time with itself.
Also very shocking at times, and expertly acted by Farrell and Gleeson in a way that pulled us in to their characters so well.
YOU must see this!
I must OWN this!Hey, you should really see this!

Get Smart
by BrianOK, I know I had originally decided I didn;t want to see this film but I changed my mind.
And it's pretty decent for what it is. Yes, there are definitely a lot of "funny parts" that just aren't funny (like what was the deal with Bill Murray in the tree?), but I did laugh enough to be mostly satisfied.
I still see Hathaway as a one-trick pony who gets parts for her looks and by playing characters with personalities so close to what I imagine is her own.
Most of you will wait for the DVD. No need to rush out.Funny enough, but nothing amazing. Wait for the DVD.

Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse
by the dudeA inside look at the behind the scenes work on Apocalypse Now. I felt it was more of a character study as Coppola fought to keep his sanity along with the cast and crew. Over 200 hundred days of shooting. Script rewrites, actor fees and health, a typhoon almost kept the film from being made but it was made after long hours of hard work. Great documentary into how far filmmakers go to keep their vision and their dreams alive.

The Dark Knight
by BrianSome of you might hate me for this review, but at least read it before you string me from the rafters.
The Dark Knight delivers more than even Iron Man or The Crystal Skull could. And it makes the Incredible Hulk look like a joke. It's easily the best Batman of the franchise,
Bale makes Keaton look frumpy and Clooney Clooney look like a bad joke.
Heath Ledger's performance WAS amazing. I was amazed at how he took all of himself out of the character of the Joker and just WAS the joker.
The supporting characters also were expertly cast and did great job.
The one thing I'm not compelled to do is what I considered a lot of people's over-exaggeration/ I'm not speechless, it didn't make me cry, iy's not the best movie of all time (all of which I read in different reviews_. This, s I said, is just a slight overstatement in my opinion that makes me uncomfortable.
However, I will say that The Dark Knight delivers amazingly as the best "summer film" of this year. It's pacing is near perfect and it is totally deviod of cheesy one-liners and moments that made me cringe.
For all this, it gets five starts from mw. Because it delivers.
But it's not a masterpiece.Go see this now! Dance, monkeys, dance!

The Dark Knight
by .:SexiVixxENlol,Like I was ever going to give this anything less than 5 stars. In fact just imagine that I drew another 3 or 4 stars on there,Cause YA its just that dam good.I was ready to be blown away and I got just that.Incredible sound too,I want to marry the THX guy.Anyway The cast is so good,I dont know about Maggie though I just don't dig on her too much, but thats a personal thing nothing to do with the movie. So lets get dirty then,Non stop action,It was over before I knew it,A few people have commented how long it seems and that they thought it should be shorter,Um I wasn't ready for it to be over. The whole ferry scene was really a trip,I didn't expect that, very cool.Heath Ledger was absolutely magical,in fact his magic trick made my tummy do a little flip too,but he IS the joker,I will probably get a lot of shit for this I DON"T CARE!Bring it!!! Not only does Heath Ledger play the Joker he evolved into the joker and I am sorry I think he makes Jack Nicholson's joker look like child's play.He smacked his version right outta the dam park !There just IS no comparison.Dark,demented,FEARLESS.I love every twisted second he was on the screen.I can't explain the exhilration of finally getting to see this after waiting for what seemed like eternity,It seemed like the wait got longer too after Heath passed away. But it's like stepping into the front car of the brand new roller coaster and literally after the DC comics logo flashed and it was beginning I felt myself take a deep breath,I knew I was in for a great ride.I shit you not I was like Christmas for me today.I know there will be other good movies this year,I won't LET anything in my heart or mind surpass this movie.Oh and families on a tight budget,I get it,but hear me out.If you have 1 movie that you can go to all year and see in the theater you want it to be this one,I guarantee it.Anyone who waits for this to come out on DVD ,you are cheating yourself out of the full experience.Nolan is a brilliant ,brilliant man, nothing was left out.Seriously, riveted the entire time, the music, plot, characters, everything was totally ON POINT.Here I am adding my extra stars here.Go see this movie ASAP!!! =)***** and 5 more for Heath *****

Batman Begins
by .:SexiVixxENOk ya'll OMG! I KNOW I am going to hear so much crap about this, but hear we go I am stepping out on a limb and owning this.Ok for some wacko reason I thought I had seen this movie thats why it was rated this whole time.Um yeah well, over the past week I have been in an argument with myself about Christian Bale being Batman,I remember Kilmer,Keaton blah blah but trying to recall details with Bale was leading to no where. So luckiliy it was showing on cable and lo and dam behold I just watched this for the first time tonight. What an AWESOME movie.Liam Neeson was a great surprise.I loved it beginning to end,I am SOOOOOO ready for The Dark Knight its like the kid who can't sleep the Night before Christmas. It's ridiculous!Anyway so there is my ugly confession of the week.I sure do wish I knew the reason that Katie Holmes did not want to play Rachel in the Dark Knight,if anyone knows will you please fill me in.Oh,by the way if you as well have not seen this.I totally recommend it.Especially if you want to be fully ready for The Dark Knight.=)

Charlie Bartlett
by BrianTo me, the plot/story of Charlie Bartlett is most certainly secondary to that of Anton Yelchin's acting, and the interplay between him and Downey and Davis.
Hope Davis is inspired casting, but this film just really showcases Yelchin's acting ability.
The plot is OK, and the execution is admittedly aimed at a younger audience than I, but it's still fun to watch and will be enjoyable to a wide audience.Hey, you should really see this!

Definitely, Maybe
by BrianI wanted to see this mostly because I am a far of Elizabeth Banks (Scrubs) and it looked like it had potential as far as the rest of the cast goes.
Unfortunately it was really slow and Ryan Reynolds' overly-makeuped/fake-tanned face got on my nerves (make up artists, ease up please!).
It did have a cute ending tho. But it was a struggle getting there.
Nothing special. See if you are a fan of the genre, and especially of one of the actors.See if you are a fan of the genre, or one of the actors. Otherwise not particularly special.

Auto Focus
by BrianI had heard about this incident several years ago on one of the ingestigative crime shows and was curious, and have been meaning to watch this film for a while.
Both Kinnear and Dafoe are believeable, if Dafoe creppily so. Makes me curious about what ACTUALLY happened.
Worth seeing, but not for everyone.Hey, you should see this, if it's your type of film.

Southland Tales
by BrianI guess no one really liked this one that much, or so it seems, but to me this was perfectly in line with Donnie Darko and Richard Kelly.
Jesus H. Christ, Almighty, of course this isn't for everyone, but then neither is Donnie Darko
You have to pay attention, suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride. And I did.
Got this one for my personal collection and I need to watch it again.
Great cast, great music, some great lines, and the same tripped out mind Richard Kelly fans will love!Hey, you should really see this!

Chaos
by BrianWhile not as exciting as, say, Crank or Transporter 2, (or, I hope, The Bank Job and Death Race), Chaos was good enough to keep my attention all the way thru.
Although the plot had been done before, the movie was much better than I was expecting. Despite a severely diluted version of Statham's usally badass characters, surprisingly it was Phillippe and SNIPES (what???!) who went a ways toward saving this from mediocrity.
Def worth a rent on DVD.Hey, you should really rent this!

Into the Wild
by .:SexiVixxENChristopher McCandless: [written into book] Happiness only real when shared.
(In and of itself,How powerful and profound is that?)This is movie was so much more than I expected.A real journey,a breaking free from everything.Emile Hirsch has a whole new respect in my book, any actor thats willing to drop alot of weight for films is pretty dedicated.I also read some other interesting things on IMDB.Anyway this is a very emotionally driven movie. It was so sad at points with his family that was left behind,so utterly broken from his 'disapperance'.Only his sister really understood him.He met some unconventional characters along the way,he had fun,he had an amazing adventure and this man saw things in this world most of us will never ever, even get close to.He found the beauty in the simplicity of just being. This is a beautiful but tragic true story this is highly recommended =)Hey, you should really see this!

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
by BrianSeems everyone pretty much loved this, but I'm not everyone. Part of the time I was bored, and part of the time I was annoyed because it seemed babyish to me.
Yes, the creatures WERE cool, but I need more than that, and Hellboy 2 seemed nothing more than a way to make more money.
Well, maybe a little more than that. But I reccomen you skip it in the theatres and wait for it to come on TV.
The baby-tumor was cool tho.Wait for it to come on TV.
