I was really impressed with this movie. Despite Tony Shalloub, I managed to enjoy this one and discovered a new young favorite actor in Matthew Lilliard

The Poseidon Adventure
by VitaThis is one of my all time favorites. It's nothing like a good old classic. It's far better than the remake "Poseidon" with Kurt Russell . I remember when this first aired on TV. If you get a chance to watch both, do so. Then you can compare. I'm sure you will enjoy the performance.
Hey, you should really see this classic !_! You'll be surprise on how much you will enjoy the amazing performance from a season cast.

Stop Loss
by VitaAwesome movie. Ryan Phillippe and Channing Tatum gave a great performance. This is a real intense psychological warfare type movie.

The Dark Knight
by ChuckAll I can say is WOW! As Spider-Man 2 was to Spider-Man, The Dark Knight is to Batman Begins. For anyone who wants to simply dismiss this as just another in the long line of comic book, superhero movies out this summer you will be dong yourself, the movie and others a huge disservice. Yes, the film is about a man in a costume who fights crime but there is nothing special about him. He has no powers and he doesn't even build his own gadgets. I don't really classify the Batman as a superhero. He's a crime fighter with high tech equipment at his fingertips. The villains in the last film as well as this one, also aren't special. They're just evil people who feel the need to take out their own personal demons on society. Unlike Nicholson's Joker, Ledger's Joker is an emotionally damaged man who wears the makeup simply to intimidate people and cover his scars. And Ledger's performance is as amazing as the pre-publicity claims. He really does inhabit the character and you can't take your eyes off of him and when he's not on screen you really want him back. It's a brilliant performance that makes Nicholson's pale in comparison (although the film styles are completely different) and it's so tragic that we'll never see this character again. No one, at least not in the foreseeable future, will be able to fill Ledger's shoes. I was surprised Havey Dent/Two-Face was as prominent in this film because I figured they were setting him up to be the bad guy in the next movie. I was also surprised and shocked by the death of a major character. The plot really delves deep into what it takes to become a hero and a villain and how easily a hero can become a villain under the right circumstances. There is some deep psychological stuff here that really sets this apart from the typical "comic book movie." Besides Ledger, everyone else is uniformly excellent and Maggie Gyllenhaal is a pretty good sub for Katie Holmes (and I really don't know if Katie could have pulled off the role this time). If you like your "superhero" movies bright and colorful with a few one-liners tossed in here and there, THE DARK KNIGHT is not the movie you're looking for. If you love great action/crime drama films then you will absolutely love this movie. It's dark, it's violent, it's loud...it's not for kids!
Hey, you should really see this! REALLY!

Mamma Mia!
by ChuckI've never seen the Broadway version, but the film is light, breezy fun. Nothing you have to wrap your head around, just sit back, enjoy the cast, the songs and the amazingly beautiful scenery. Most everyone does an excellent job of singing the classic ABBA songs and the only sour note is Pierce Brosnan, who really has to force the songs so much to get them to sound even half good if that. Streep, who can sing, sometimes sounds a little shaky but I chalk all of it up to realism - these are real people who burst into song and they sound like we all do when we sing in our cars! I think if everyone sounded like they came from the cast of "Phantom of the Opera" it just would have been too jarring. I loved both Christine Baranski's and Julie Walters' solo numbers, and Colin Firth also has a lovely solo and a lovely voice. Streep does stand out during the "Winner Takes It All" number and actually had me in tears. And Dominic Cooper is just impossibly cute! As movie musicals go, this one isn't quite up there with last year's "Hairspray," but it's definitely in my top five modern musicals. And you will have ABBA songs in your head for days afterwards!
Hey, you should really see this if you like musicals!

In the Land of Women
by CraigHm... What to say about this movie? I don't really know. I must say, I went in just thinking I would love it -- I really wanted to love it... I mean, Olympia Dukakis, Meg Ryan, Adam Brody... But? Well... I just didn't. This movie is simply not the "lovable" type. Likable? Yes. Appreciable? Definitely? But, lovable? No... Sorry.
Awkward and weird, but not always in a good or interesting way -- in fact, most often in a sort of odd, unsettling, disjointed sense. Just strange and somewhat uncomfortable, the film and its characters never quite "settle in" -- this script just doesn't allow for that.
The chemistry between Ryan and Brody was nice... very subtle, perhaps a bit understated, but really nice, palatable, and believable. There was certainly a lot of emotion tied up in there, and it came through in a poignantly real, refreshing, fashion. Dukakis was funny and shined when she was on screen, but that aspect of the story just never really developed... it just sort of lurked in the background. Stewart was really great in her role, and I liked the interplay between her and Brody -- in fact, it contrasted quite nicely with that between Brody and Ryan -- but the weakness of the script really didn't let this come through as naturally as it could have.
The talent here was excellent, and the overall plot concept was good, but it just wasn't well executed. It sort of meanders and just abruptly arrives at the enjoyable parts. There's just no real cohesiveness, which leads one feeling... unconvinced, underwhelmed, and a bit unsatisfied. Kudos to the cast for doing a commendable job with what they had... But, unfortunately, for me, this just wasn't enough. Quite enjoyable in parts, but overall, fairly mediocre.Worth a watch, but nothing to write home about... Good, and definitely has its moments, but ultimately fails to deliver to its potential. I blame the script, not the cast.
