1
Happy Together (1997,  Unrated)
Happy Together
One of first films to truly change people's perceptions of Hong Kong cinema, Happy Together follows the doomed relationship of Tony Leung and Leslie Cheung as they look to 'start over'. Moody, beatufully shot and amazingly acted.
2
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964,  PG)
Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
One of the funniest films ever made. Sellers on top form in multiple roles and some of the most iconic moments of recent movie history!
3
3-Iron (Bin-jip) (Empty Houses) (2004,  R)
3-Iron (Bin-jip) (Empty Houses)
Wonderful, quiet and poetic. The lack of dialogue gave every movement greater significance.
4
Donnie Darko (2001,  R)
Donnie Darko
So perfect it almost hurts. The director's cut is a must to ensure you don't get too confused.
5
2046 (2005,  R)
2046
The follow up to In The Mood For Love is Wong Kar Wai's most ambitious film to date. But despite the epic pretensions, 2046 sticks in the mind for the performance of the lead characters.
6
Fight Club (1999,  R)
Fight Club
I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen this, and I still get something new out of it. The final twist is good, but it isn't the point of the film.
7
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006,  R)
El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)
Visually stunning fantasy sequences blended into a brutal war story seen from the point of view of a young girl. As close to perfect as you can get!
8
The Village (2004,  PG-13)
The Village
One of the most underrated films (IMHO) of the last few years. A much more accomplished film than Sixth Sense and some truly memorable scenes make me like this more each time I see it.
9
Chinese Ghost Story (1987,  Unrated)
Chinese Ghost Story
Bonkers, bonkers, bonkers! The best, most imitated & original HK action fantasy ever made. Never fails to make me grin like a loon.
10
Fa Yeung Nin Wa (In the Mood for Love) (2001,  PG)
Fa Yeung Nin Wa (In the Mood for Love)
A film that simultaneously pulls you into its themes of love and moral restraint whilst also sending you into a bout of personal nostalgia. Truly brilliant.
