Spider-Man 3
PG-13
Surely not the best Spiderman, but I thought it was really well done, the acting was pretty good, the action was pleasing (although I was very disappointed by the CGI), it's sad at some parts. But some parts didn't exactly make sense and some stuff was corny which kind of separated it from the first two films, this was tadle too cheesy.
Film Threat | Clint Morris
What saves Spider-Man 3 from becoming well, "Superman III," is the fact that it's still a solid film that packs a punch when it comes to turn on the spectacle.
Superbad
R
Superbad was Superawesome.
I can't remember the last time i laughed so hard at a movie. It was 10 times better than "American Pie" and that's saying something.
Superbad is just a great time, plain and simple.
Knocked Up
R
Screw Juno. Yes, bite me.
Not as funny as the other Apatow films, but the humour is replaced with some touching moments.
New York Daily News | Jack Mathews
What follows is an extreme case of reverse courtship, which begins at conception and works backward toward getting to know each other, and then moves forward to one of the funniest birthing scenes ever filmed.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
PG
I've never seen the original series, I did read the books though.
Arthur Dent, the average Englishman who loves his tea, and had his house bulldozed in the morning, Planet Earth is get unexpectedly demolished to make way for a hyper-bypass too. That is actually just the beginning.
The acting is brilliant, and Arthur's (Martin Freeman) character is basically clueless, just as anyone would be.
Ford (Mos Def) is confident in his knowledge of the galaxy.
If you are a fan of the books, you will probably be very disappointed though =(
I think the first half of the film is a great - relatively faithful to the story and any changes are acceptable.
After around the half-way point, it all just becomes a muddled mess and resembles neither the Hitch-hiker books or a decent storyline.
Read (or re-read) the books instead. Oh and download the English series, nobody will complain :P
Baltimore Sun | Michael Sragow
Part irritating, part inspired.
Taken
PG-13
Since this movie is not out yet, and people have already been rating and reviewing it... I guess that I'm not the only sinner.
A intense action film that came out of nowhere. Simple, straightforward, and yet predictable.
"I don't know who you are.
I don't know what you want.
If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills:
Skills I have acquired over a very long career.
Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
If you let me daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you.
But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."
That pretty much sums up the film.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
PG-13
A lot more could have been brought to the table in this sequel. I'm pretty sure that anyone would agree that the original was much better than this one, but having said that, some credit is due to this movies entertainment value.
The plot was relatively simple, dealing with the story of "The Golden Army" that you learn was a tale told to Hellboy when he was young. A series of events challenge him to choose what side of morality he is truly on as the story continues leading to an action packed, but not quite sensible ending.
If you liked the first one, odds are you will enjoy this one equally or a little less.
Rolling Stone | Peter Travers
A surprise package of fun, fright and untamed imagination.

Children of Men
R
Words cannot express how good this movie is. Some people won't like the ending, but I think that it worked extremely well. Clive Owen was great, as he always is, and Michael Caine was perfect as his hippie friend. Julianne Moore, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Pam Ferris round out a perfect cast. It is an extremely deep film, excellently portrayed through Alfonso Cuaron's direction. Compares with, and surpasses in every level. Disappointed that it didnt get a nomination for Oscar. It will get nominated for Cann Film Festival.

Saving Private Ryan
R
I have seen nearly all WW2 movies (even the B-movies) and this has to be the best WW2 movie ever. Spectacular, wrenching masterpiece that unflinchingly documents the random horror, the grisly spectacle and the ugliness of war. Searing, heartbreaking, so intense it turns your body into a single tube of clenched muscle, this is simply the greatest war movie ever made.
3.
Stalker
Unrated
Masterpiece, somewhat slow and long but such a beautiful Movie, just awesome. Its not Advisable for Hollywood americans, neither for Action seekers. The movie is very Deep, Genial & Artistic. Tarkovsky was a genius on relating with movies, he showed the rest of the world that cinematography isn't just a means of entertainment, but also a new art of expression. I hope Mr Hellshocked is happy now :)
4.
The Bourne Ultimatum
PG-13
Adapted from Ludlum's novel by a trio of writers who never met cloak-and-dagger, they didn't swallow whole, the story of Bourne's quest for his origins is often as formulaic as a dry martini, shaken not stirred. But where Bond movies are juiced by a conflict of egos, the Bourne adventures are all about competing intelligence systems?as manifested through action set-pieces. In the case of Ultimatum, make that flabbergasting, mind-boggling, next-level action set-pieces. Ultimatum is structured around three gargantuan cat-and-mouse pursuits, each of which pits the extensive, elaborate, high-tech eyes and ears of the CIA against the mobile, intuitive, ultra-alert mind of a single (extravagant) man. The excitement of these sequences has less to do with stunts or spectacle (best car chase ever and social stealth) than the tango between these two intelligences?and the ways in which the spectator is invited to the dance. GO SEE THIS MOVIE NOW!!!

The Usual Suspects
R
The Usual Suspects is an ironic, bang-up thriller about the wages of crime. A terrific cast of exciting actors socks over this absorbingly complicated yarn that's been spun in a seductively slick fashion by director Bryan Singer. Full of twists, blends of mystery, personality, humor and terror, laced with one stunning shock after another.

There Will Be Blood
R
Here: if you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake and I have a straw, there it is, that?s the straw, see, watch it! My straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake: I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! *slurps* I drink it up! Set in the early 20th century, the film follows the rise to power of Daniel Plainview - a charismatic and ruthless oil man, driven to succeed by his intense hatred of others and psychological need to see his competitors fail. When he learns of oil-rich land in California that can be bought cheaply, he moves his operation there and begins manipulating and exploiting the local landowners into selling him their property. Using his young adopted son H.W. to project the image of a caring family man, Plainview gains the cooperation of almost all the locals with lofty promises to build schools and cultivate the land to make their community flourish. Over time, Plainview's gradual accumulation of wealth and power causes his true self to surface, and he begins to slowly alienate himself from everyone in his life. Daniel Day Lewis puts on an absoulutely spectacular performance as Daniel Plainview, we see two personalities of this man through the 2 and a half hour film. First seeing the kinder and softer Daniel as he makes his way up through the world through all of his drilling, but once Paul shows him these areas where oil is huge, he changes, due to greed and wealth that hook him over. Daniel handles it with perfect precision as each moment we see him on screen is just fantastic to watch. It makes me happy as a movie lover to see that there is a director like Paul Anderson who is willing to make a film about the big beginning of the oil production. Instead of creating a post 9/11 struggle movie about the fast moving prices of oil, he takes the time to create a movie in which shows major character and the start of America's largest needed supply. In the 21st century our whole economy is basically run by oil, we need gas for our cars and oil for our electricity. With the whole war going on and everything America is struggling to get these needs as much as we need them. One thing I must point out which is very good in this movie was the score. The first 10 or so minutes of the movie are all quiet except for character and environment sounds. When there is a moment when score is used though, it gets to be very creepy, but sometimes used in great spots of the movie. Paul Anderson does a magnificent job behind the camera with a lot of very smooth and calm camera angles and shots. The visual style along with his directorial style set the movie perfectly. There Will Be Blood is fantastic in almost every way. At about 2 hours and 38 minutes, it is very long and in moments can be drawn out, but Daniel's performance and Paul Anderson's way to tell a story make the whole film is a must see masterpiece. PS: Is it sad/weird that I found the end slightly hilarious? The New Yorker | David Denby An enthralling and powerfully eccentric American epic.

I recommend you see...
Street Kings
by KhrisWith an interesting cast and hardcore performances comes a good cop thriller that nearly feels realistic.
There is nothing moral or politically correct about this movie... its all about being a bad ass, corruption and loyalty to your fellow officers. But what happens if you fall in so deep, while being an alcoholic and having the rep of being the most violent cop on town, with Internal Affairs breathing down your back.... what do you do?? Especially when you are implicated in your old partner's brutal assassination. Especially when your old partner was ratting you out to Internal Affairs. Thats motive, mate.
Anyways, welcome to the dark side of law enforcement. Even when the scenes are during the day, it still feels like it is dark as night... or dark as evil. We once again see the lines between law and justice blurred with illegality, meet cops who are experts are walking the tightrope of corruption.
Im not a Keanu Reeves fan, but he did OKAY in the movie. But its most probably because I liked the whole idea of the movie itself. The other cast of course are excellent, from Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie (HOUSE! XD) and surprisingly, Chris Evans, whom I usually think is just another short stripping wannabe, but he may have some talent after all.
Anyways, the movie is not too brutal, a bit graphic, but we've seen much worse. Also, I don't think its been pushed as far as it could have gone. This movie had so much potential... but its flawed. It comes on hard... then backs off as if the Director was scared to go over the edge. It doesn't finish real well, which is disappointing and nothing really stands out. Except for the fact that this is a really dirty cop movie, which is the reason I'm drawn to it.
Its a movie that made a big splash when it came out, due to minimal but effective marketing but will (probably already has), disappeared into the wilderness of Hollywood movies that come and go.
Watch it once, and then it automatically leaves your mind the next day.Welcome to the Dark Side.... of policing!

House of D
by LydiaWonderfully done, and deeply touching in the most innocent of ways. I could do without the parts of narrating, but that was the only problem I had with this film. Sincere and lovable, this is a truly great flim.
Hey, you should really see this!
