Um...flix said they fixed the review...they didn't. Oh well.

I'll re-recommend...when I'm less of a total and uber dolt...

    OY.

Loves, I'm taking a break with thorough examinations of film type reivews...until they fix the problem.
Guys, totally a cool ride...with McAvoy, Jolie and Freedman at the helm...you know you're in for a treat.

About a nobody...who learns he can do things...that even somebody[s] would never even dream of doing. And tons of action, gore, cool-as-hell effects from Nightwatch's visual-effects genius.

    Ch-ch-check it out!

To be completely honest...the only thing that really drew me towards this movie is the premise that Christian Bale would be starring in it. And, when it started...it was unlike any character I've ever seen him play.

The story is about Jim Davis {Bale] who used to be an Army Ranger and was recently discharged. He's looking for work, gets turned down by the one occupation that he requires in order to marry his Mexican girlfriend and bring her into America.

However, he still has these recurring nightmares from his job as a Ranger...and these seem to keep him up at night at times. And, the only person who can understand him is his best friend Mike [Freddy Rodriguez].

To kill the time before he finds out about the LAPD position, they chill by getting drunk, smoking weed, seeing their buddies and just hanging out. Yet, Mike is finally thinking he may actually need to get a job as his girlfriend, Sylvia [Eva Longoria] keeps pushing him to. She finally gives him an ultimatum...and he does something really stupid just in order to hang out with his best friend.

Finally, Jim finds out that the LAPD reject his application...and becomes furious and from that is just a barrel into some reactions that most people usually wouldn't have. As Mike ignores his girlfriend's pleas, the both end up cruising along the streets of South Central Los Angeles...getting involved in petty crime, theft, drugs and eventually violence...as they did when they were young.

At first, I was surprised when I heard Spanish in the beginning of this movie...having no idea what it was about...and then seeing Jim go back to America and talk like some gangsta...and then again, when addressing authorties...putting on this completely different demeanour.

It seemed a little slow at first, just two guys having fun...ignoring their responsibilities...and being totally reckless until there's a key point in the film that has Jim acting out in ways he can't even control and it comes down to Mike to pacify things a little bit...however your best friend can't always help you out.

It's certainly different, the immense development of Jim's character is amazing to see and Rodriguez does a pretty fine job playing Mike. It's interesting to see the two of them get along and interact...see what they're going to do next.
If you liked Training Day, odds are...you'll probably find something to like about this one too. Not for everyone, but hell give it a try...if even just for the interaction between Rodriguez and Bale's characters. It's amazing how strong the ties between friends can be.

There was just something about this story that was brought to my attention.

Darren aka Pig [Murphy] and Sinead aka Runt [Cassidy] are two of a kind, born on the same day in the same hospital...just several minutes apart. Since birth they become friends, first by reaching their tiny baby hands through the cradle bars to comfort each other and then 16 years old they do the same.

They almost seem to know what they other is thinking, just because of that very reason and because of this are nearly almost always together...in some way. Completely disregarding what society says, they rebel in various mischievous sometimes even malicious ways. 'Pig and Runt - against the world.'

Their idealistic world seems to shift when 17 days before their 17th birthday when Pig develops feelings for his other half and becomes jealous of anyone invading their private little world.

Their parents agree that their relationship is unhealthy and learn that although Pig can't be helped, Runt has a chance to be 'fixed'. They cart her off to some kind of special school while Pig slowly travels further into himself and their world not knowing what to do with the loss of her.

Finally, his mother informs him of where to find her and he sets off desperately in need of finding her for their 17th birthday to find that palace where they can be King and Queen. As he travels various roads to reach her, he becomes steadily more violent spreading his anxiousness through destruction and pain wherever he goes.

Then, when he finds her and they run off together to celebrate their birthday...Pig has a plan and Runt follows if not with a bit if apprehension. The events of their joint-birthday steadily grow more and more out of hand and that connection begins to waiver.

Cillian Murphy once again puts on a brilliant performance as Pig who grows wild with each passing moment without his Runt. Elaine Cassidy also puts on a rather convincing performance of his other half. Seeing that the film is centred on solely these two...they definitely capture your attention with the strang ways they spend their time together and the things which they do for fun and enjoyment.

It seems to be this dark, almost morbid version of a childhood that progresses slowly into adult-hood in a twist of emotions and events that show us what kind of people these two are.
I know what you're thinking...the theme wasn't Murphy...but bloody hell he's an amazing actor! This is a story of two extreme best friends who as they grow older learn about what kind of relationship they really have. It becomes really dark at times, and that's what really catches your attention..or the fact that a person can come to these irrational decisions just so sporadically.

Really quite stunning, not for everyone...but kinda has a likabilty about it like Withnail and I did.

..should probably try watching this not at 3 am..in drunken stupour...

    *******

Being that finally I've gotten around to watching this in its entirety...I've come to realize that Cillian Murphy is quite a wonderful actor and that I'm glad I saw this.

I bet the lot of you have ALREADY seen it, so my review will probably be a regurgitation of yours...but here we go.

A virus that infects people through the blood gets lose by accident when some do-gooder animal rights activists try to do the right thing...however what happens is a massive outbreak that quickly becomes an epidemic. The virus is contained in a research facility as they try and find a cure for it, until one activist doesn't believe the scientist and releases the infected animal anyways...then it spreads in a small amount of time affecting millions.

28 days later, a man named Jim awakens in an abandoned hospital completely confused with what's going on. Finding some scrubs and some abandoned candy and pop he sets out into London looking for any signs of life.

Desperately, he calls out still trying to grasp the severity of the situation until he comes across a wall dedicated to missing people and eventually a newspaper proclaiming immediate evacuation.

Incidentally he comes across some infected and a small group of survivors who save him and explain to him that what his conclusions are...are right. Still confused and in total disbelief he decides to set out and find his parents [in tow of Selena and Mark] who are desensitized to this whole mess and are just depending on themselves for survival.

Once the trio find Jim's house, he discovers his parents have done themselves in to save themselves and they take cover in his old house. Struck with sorrow, in the middle of the night he lights a candle and seems to be reminscing with photos on the fridge's door.

The candle, might have triggered it...but soon enough they're joined by quite a few uninvited guests...which becomes a battle for survival...and that's when things really get interesting.

Eventually they find other survivors and decide to follow a recorded broadcast that boasts of soldiers who will have 'an answer for the infection'. Knowing that there is nowhere else to go they set off with various obstacles in the way...however other things occur that changes their plans drastically.

Especially, when they find out that the haven is a corrupt and greedy band of soldiers who are only interested in one thing...the entire story is about survival. Not just against the infected...but against other humans, in general.

Danny Boyle puts a different take on zombie movies, modern-izing them almost. Making this 'rage' virus the cause for people becoming 'undead' and feeding on the lively for survival. The camera pans were just incredible and added to the dramatic effects of this movie.

I found that the music was also wonderful in here to add to the emphasis of the scenes...as they go through a variety of atmospheres.

This one was definitely entertaining, if not chilling...but it does make one think about such things...would you really be able to only depend on yourself when your survival was at stake?
What happens...when you wake up and discover to be one in a handful of people still alive and functional in an infected world? And find yourself fighting the vary people you knew and once trusted? And find that others like yourself...have a very skewed version of the reality you live in? Kickass thought-provoking modern-zombie movie that teaches us a little bit about human nature.

    First Snow First Snow
    3.5 Stars by Bannan
This was a movie...that you either like or don't..as with any other, however it also might appeal to those who delve a little deeper into the subject at hand. I almost skipped rie over this flick, but somehow I'm glad that I didn't at all.

First of all, with having a fine of William Fichnter and Guy Pearce it already caught my attention...but this is a little bit about what you might come to expect.

This is a story about Jimmy Starks, some smooth-talking saleman who is convinced he's gonna make it big soon. His car comes to stall in the middle of some little desert town, he doesn't seem all that fazed. To kill time while the local mechanic fixes the car he goes into the bar and grabs some food and a drink...the whole time trying to convince the bar-tender to buy some kind of jukebox. Losing interest in the place, he wanders a bit aways from various venders when he comes to a small trailer where a man, J.K. Simmons, has a sign stating 'fortunes told'. Jimmy, slightly interested about what would happen naturally goes in fro a reading. What happens next is something very strange after telling him that betting on the winning basketball team isn't in his favour and that he'll make it big from Dallas, Texas...the foretune teller all of a sudden has a spasm. And then sends the salesman on his way, naturally trying to figure out what it was he hands him more money...but the teller will have nothing more to say.

He finally gets home and everything seems to be going quite normal and in his favour...until some strange things occur. Coincidences, even! Finally, curious after something a little worry-some occurs he heads back and learns that the teller sees 'no more roads, no more'. Agitated to be hearing this, he presses the man to tell him when and for how long? The teller finally assures him that he won't make it till the first snow.

As he gets back home, the feeling eats at him as simultaneously those 'dead calls' from telemarketers turn out to be something a little more foreboding...and when he gets a nice little package in the mail...Jimmy slowly travels into a downward spiral.

He becomes increasingly more paranoid, separating himself from his friends, work and even his girlfriend. He's shackled wondering if his past is coming back to haunt him and for good reason too.

Then, as the weather progressively gets colder and colder Jimmy becomes more and more worried...and takes measures into his own hands to ensure the first snow won't have anything to do with 'no more roads to travel'.

For the most part, I found this movie alright...and being that I absolutely adore Guy Pearce's acting...it wasn't hard to keep watching. There was just something about this film that really caught me off guard. One of those movies that slide under the radar..and take a long time to unravel the plot at hand. Once again, subjective...but it might make you wonder yourself...not about fortune tellers or first snows...but about 'fate' and what it has to do with humanity, itself.
Not for everyone, but give it a try...if you're interested in what happens to smooth-talking salesmen who think they're on top of the world...and then a strange encounter with a psychic that tells of misery...which them causes for some strange things to unravel quite a bit.

    IF NOT!
    How're you lot?
It doesn't seem like I'm on here as often as I'd like...work keeps me busy and then sleep is a good friend I return to over and over. Lol.
