Charlie Wilson's War
R
If you haven't heard of Charlie Wilson prior to seeing this film, it will not effect the brilliance of this 'based on a true story' movie. Having heard of Charlie Wilson, I found this movie quite entertaining. Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman capture the political storyline with much wit and the dialogue is excellently weaved. A bit of a US history lesson and enjoyable....
Hitman
R
Not what I had expected... I've never played the video game, so I have no idea if the movie was adapted well. First off, Timothy Olyphant (he's a babe) was not the actor I anticipated being cast as Agent 47. ( I am used to him being a slightly sleazy, yet romantic type.) Amazingly to me, he pulled off the dark persona of someone who has lived their life in seclusion, studying only the art of killing quite convincingly. The script could have used some refining, but the film has plenty of action and is just pure mindless entertainment. Olga Kurylenko offers the men some eye candy (nudity) and in her role as Nika, presents a diversion from killing to Agent 47 (albeit a small one). Not a film for everyone, but if you enjoy action and don't want to have to use the brain cells too much, it's worth a watch.
Iron Man
PG-13
Iron Man lives up to its hype! The movie ROCKS! Robert Downey Jr. was perfectly cast as Tony Stark. The supporting cast fit their respective roles like a glove. The script is intelligent, the special effects are just enough, the character building works well, the direction is good (great cameo by Favreau), the action/fight scenes leave you wanting more and one can only hope a sequel will be forthcoming. Though I'm not a comic book fan, I'd have to say Iron Man rivals Batman Begins as the best comic book movie to date. The only thing (outside the crappy screen & sound of our local cinema) I found lacking was the score. Batman Begins does have a better score than Iron Man. The best thing about this film is that you don't have to be a fan of Iron Man comics to totally enjoy it.
Sunshine
R
Enjoyed the storyline but felt the spiritual aspect fell short. The acting was average, the direction could have been more in depth, the cinematography was good but lacked a bit... Overall Sunshine is an ok Sci-fi flick, but nothing out of the ordinary. I did enjoy how the film made me think about the sacrifices men make for mankind.
Southland Tales
R
The first 10 minutes of this movie were good. It was downhill from that point onward. Maybe it's my bad for not realizing it was a 'spoof' movie. The Rock looked good....
Dreamland
PG-13
A movie about choices, friendships, love and life in general... The movie just didn't meet my expectations. The premise was good, but the story and direction didn't make the best of what it was given. John Corbett's character was the most believable and the most touching.

1.
Black Hawk Down
R
Just knowing this is a true story is enough. You can't help but feel the anguish of the troops as they fight for survival in Somalia. You'll cry and cheer as the survivors make their way out.... Considering the length of the book, this is a great adaptation. This is most likely the best Josh Harnett film available.
2.
American History X
R
Ed Norton's best! A powerful story told beautifully about a young man whose journey into and out of the Neo-Nazi movement grabs hold of the viewer and doesn't let go. Be warned- there is no happy ending to this film. One of the best films ever made.....
3.
Northfork
PG-13
One of the most visually beautiful movies I have ever seen. The cast could not have been better selected. The Polish brothers (Michael & Mark) have written the gem of the century with Northfork. The movie is filled with symbolism and some of the most delightful dialogue ever filmed. This is a must see for any true movie buff. For others, it may not impress. Watch with an open mind and an open heart...
4.
Enemy of the State
R
If this film doesn't provoke you into thinking about "big brother" nothing will... Gripping, fast paced, realistic (especially in the world we know today), superb acting.... This film is all about being under government surveillance and it's too relevant to ignore. Will Smith and Gene Hackman are the stars, but the supporting cast list is top notch- Gabriel Byrne, Ian Hart, Barry Pepper, Jake Busey, Jack Black, Jaime Kennedy, Jason Lee, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore and Jason Robards. Who's watching you???? Conspiracy theorists, this is a must see for you.
5.
Across the Universe
PG-13
If you ever enjoyed music by the Beatles, like to be visually entertained, and can just suspend reality for a bit, you will be engrossed by Across The Universe. There are such diverse reviews of this masterpiece by Julie Taymor, but I was blown away. Musicals aren't my 'cup of tea', but this one just comes together. The characters are delightful, the songs blend right into the script and the romantic story is very touching.
6.
Little Miss Sunshine
R
I loved this film! Each character is perfectly flawed, dysfunctional and loveable. They are so loveable. From laughter to tears and back again, this film hooks you from the beginning and doesn't stop until it's reeled you all the way in at the finish. I haven't laughed so freely with a film in a long time. This is true comedy. Stellar performances from Breslin, Arkin, Kinnear, Carell, Collette and Dano!! Dano and Breslin stole the show for me. Charming, delightful, funny, dark, emotional--- what a joyride of a film. This is one for the DVD collection.

Camp Out
by BrianI wanted to see this documentary because its subject are so different from. Ten campers trying to reconcile their Christian faith and their homosexuality.
I never had that problem because religion isn't a big part of my life at all, but it was interesting to see, and would be good viewing for gay teens dealing with the same issues.Maybe for you, maybe not for you but a fairly well done documentary. You may know people that you could tell them about this.

Monsieur Verdoux
by Fabio"HENRI VERDOUX: Wars, conflict - it's all business. One murder makes a villain; millions, a hero. Numbers sanctify, my good fellow! "
"PRIEST: May the Lord have mercy on your soul.
HENRI VERDOUX: Why not? After all, it belongs to Him."
A great Chaplin's black comedy or as the "movie" says "A comedy of murders".
This is one of Chaplinīs best sound films.
Itīs the story of a fired bank clerk who goes into business for himself, marrying and murdering rich women for their money that then he uses for his family, the "real" wife and the son.
His directing is superb, the script is wonderful (born from the mind of Orson Welles) and the acting is superb, one of his best performance.
This is not like others chaplin's movies so don't watch it you don't like black comedies.
This movie has remembered me the movie "keeping mum" directed by Niall Johnson with Rowan Atkinson,so if you liked "monsieur verdoux" give a look also at "keeping mum"Hey, you should really see this!

Na Kamalei: Men of Hula
by JDA fantastically engaging documentary that has as much beauty and grace as the subjects and the dances. In this brief film, we learn the history of hula, the man responsible for bringing hula back to the men and the gentlemen who have become a troupe who learn and then compete for a grand title.
The man who brought this amazing group together is Robert Cazimero. The competition that he works his all-male hula group is called the Merrie Monarch Festival. Cazimero's group is the oldest group in Hawaii and their journey took place in 2005. That was also the 30th anniversary of the group?s existence. This was a great production which shines with the island's beauty and the humanity of the precious Hawaiian culture. It is so amazing that you will quickly see why this became an award-winning documentary. My only reason for not giving this doc a five-star rating was that it clocks in at fifty-seven minutes. I wished it was longer.Hey, you should really see this! It is appearing on some PBS stations in the U.S. If you have access to Public Broadcasting Service, check the internet for the program called "Independent Lens." This is a great program as it showcases many newer documentaries. This title is also available on DVD. Worth your time if you like the power of dance and the gorgeous setting of the Hawiian islands. Aloha everyone. I'll be back in California after a brief visit to Montana!!

by CAROLGruesome &disturbing movie to realize this someday could be a reality. More disturbing is the thought of how many might actually click on to view !!
Just saw this n video tonight, well done movie. Did make my skin crawl at the thought of it being a reality someday, as we are becoming so wrapped up in "reality" shows on TV, & videos on the internet.
