OK truthfully i've been trying to review this for a while but im scared cos i know nothing i can say will do this film justice. But here goes. This film will totally mind fuck u! Calm down i'll explain. The violence and racism in this film while extremely distrurbing in any other context, aren't in this film. When watching, it draws you in in such a way as to make you both understand and sympathise with Derek's character. The use of both colour and black & white filmography helps you understand the story through present and flashback scenes. Edward Norton once again Pulls of another FANTASTIC performance, with great acting from the supporting cast especially Edward Furlong! Everyone should see this film once even if thay hate it! (which i doubt) because it has such impact and power. Although it focuses on young white supremeicy, i got a stronger impression that the underlaying theme of anger, exploited greif and corruption of young minds, has a much more chilling outlook!
Told ya it wouldn't do it justice but what else can i say!
I just wanna say that Norton was robbed! He should have got an OSCAR for this performance. It's haunting how good he is!
GOD I WOULD LOVE TO TALK ABOUT THIS BUT YOU KNOW THE RULES!!!!!! U DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!!!!! wonder how many other people have used this line in a review!
WOW!!! I Loved this movie. Once again Edward Norton takes command of a movie and leaves you utterly thrilled with his performance. He is truelly captivating in this.
Jessica Biel's performance was good but nowhere as stunning as that of Rufus Sewell, as the evil prince or the outstanding acting of Paul Giamatti, who turns in a fabulous role as the chief of police investigating the 'illusionist'.
The story is very well constructed and easy to follow, with a fantastic twist at the end which leaves you delighted and stunned. The special effects are very good but not groundbreaking.
Overall was a really great drama, fantasy film with an interesting love story playing throughout.
Someone once told me always end with a quote so I will...... (duh it'll be after the reveiw!)
Superb acting once again from both Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins. Lecter is truelly spinetinglingly chilling in this, I felt myself hanging off his every word and the chemistry between Hannibal and Will Graham is overflowwing!
Ralph Fiennes turns in a top notch (if somewhat naked at times) performance of the twisted "Tooth Fairy" or Red Dragon as he likes to be known. Also Emily Watson adds the romance which helps to put the dragon's mind in the tail spin!
I would throughly recommend this to all, ps if u don't enjoy it I suggest u stay the hell away from me then cos u aint worthy! Ahh the quote in the words of Dr Hannibal "the Cannibal" Lecter...." Such remarkable bravery... i think i'll eat your heart!...."
So let me set the scene for you 1920's Britian. Shy Bacteriologist, Walter, played (no suprise) astonishingly by Edward Norton, falls madly in love with the beautiful Kitty (Naomi Watts). Kitty seeing a great oppurtinity to leave her disappionted mother hastily agrees to marry Walter and they leave for his work place in Hong Kong. Quickly the love disolves when Kitty has an affair with the dashing Charlie, played by the very swarve Liev Schreiber. In revenge Walter volunteers the couple to help out at a far away village caught in the middle of a cholera epidemic. However, as the estranged couple are thrown into the disolute & hostile land and raw emotion of the horrors they encounter, it leads to a blossoming love and admiration!
Not a film i would generally (or ever) gone to have seen, but being a huge Norton fan i went along with eager anticipation. And once again i was left glowing with a smile from ear to ear!
Naomi Watts is very good throughout. However i did have issues with her character Kitty. where by when Walter tells her "....the next time you interupt i will strangle you!" i did hope thats she would indeed interupt time and time again in various parts of this movie just to stop the gloominess she exhibited!
Toby Jones is excellently cast as the freindly British guide and freind, and good work from Anthony Wong Chau-Sang as the army general incharge of the village.
Simple put this is a very sad and beautifully told love story with well defined characters and plot that leaves you with closure at the end. Any other human person would shed a tear but i am cold hearted and dead inside (well apparently) so i was therefore unable to!
one of the best films ever which draws on the evil of the twisted and depraved human mind. John Doe brutally tortures the "innocent souls" for their sins in astonishingly creative ways leading to a interesting and gory story. morgan freeman and brad pitt turn in excellent performances as the tough detectives on the hunt for Mr Doe! excellent all round brutal and disturbing horror thriller!!!!
well what a fantastic movie, very underestimated as it slipped under the hype of the matrix films. Christian Bale is fantastic in this as is Sean Bean. the plot is solid and well thought out, it is fast paced and the fights and gun battles are marvelous! for a film trying to portray an emotionless world this really shines because of the harshness of the characters awakening to the society! very very good film!
never has an adaption of stephen king's stories been portrayed on the big screen with such beauty , power and emotion. this film is truelly one of the best films of the last decade!!!
Fantastic movie which draws you in superbly then chews you up before spitting you out again! Richard Gere is good in it but never really caught my attention, and Laura Linney is excellent as the female ass kicking lawyer.
However it is Edward Norton, in his debut film, who shines like the north star in this! The emotion, the facial expressions, compeling acting, the despriration, the voices and the body language are all fantastic. The switch between Aaron and Roy seems almost natural in his acting, and i was strangely captivated but the malicious grinning and devilish Roy, more so than the shy weak Aaron. Even though the former had mere minutes of emergance in the film. The ending is simple genius, great twist and excellent portrail of the evil character!
Definately a must for every true Norton fan and worth seeing by the rest of the population just for the suspense, drama and tension that this film eludes! Sometimes i think that there was never any aaron to my roy either?
this is a really strange film to watch at first but the story only really unfolds and makes sense at the very end. totally worth it though. excellent cult film.
absolutely fantastic movie! one of the best Stephen King's adaptions! stuck to the book very closely, the actors were translated beautifully and the cast's acting was top rate. incredablly heartwrenching and sad, but also a joy to watch even oif ur not a fan of the book! plus Mr Jingles is cute with his little trick!
Darkness is a very good dark film. It's what i like to call a thinking persons horror movie. It's pretty psychological, very nervey and tense which draws you in superbly! Not at all dependant on visual horror or gory, However the acting and plot are able to totally intrege and send shivers down spines! Even made me sleep with the lights on. Enjoy!
very good movie, excellent combination of political establishment and action. draws on suppression of the people and the overuling power of freedom. the characters are very well develope with a great side plot to V's past and the link between V and Evey was enjoyable to watch. Good acting and excellent cast in Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving.
I can honestly say that i have never had as much fun watching a movie as i did watching this!!!! "Can't stop here its Bat country!"
The dialogue is pristine, excellent its like smooth flowing smoke from a joint rolling across the film. Johnny depp is excellent, the acting and expeciallly the narration which had the slightest air of old private eye films!
Everything was soo twisted and deprivaed but at the same time functioning and lucid. All i can say about the plot is --> WTF?? but i don't care and it don't matter. Amazing camera work and super soundtrack. i doubt that aneone would feel disappointed after watching this masterful and incredably funny acid laced spiral of there drug induced adventure trip!!!
loved the way in which this film was projected with the use of black and white shots which really helped to punctuate the colour that was used in variuos plot lines! the stories are great to watch and the diaologue if fab. great acting and excellent tie ins with all the characters and thier stories!
BLOOD, GORY, VIOLENCE AND A BIG OLD HEFTY AXE! this is a must for fans of extremely gory and brutal slasher flicks. the cast are ok, but kane totally steals the show with his menacing and disturbed portrail of Jacob Goodnight! the violence is extreme but thats why i like! LOL. the plot is vey easy to understand and there are no twists, but i did feel that the ending was a little flat. my only wish is that the phone was shoved down blondies throat at the beginning of the film!!!
Jigsaw is back and this time its personal! this guy is twisted and derange but also very clever! i mean would u have what it takes to survive? great eanding too!
a ripping good film, but cant give it full 5 stars cos it does take the piss out of my "religion", not that i care but i cant afford to have the local church members hunt me down and........................... uh oh..................................
well Opium, absinth, johnny depp and Jack the ripper wat else could u want from a film! oh and there is the brutal bloody murders! gonna have to watch and review again soon.
jim carrey really shines in this movie and shows that he can play more than the rubberface idiot that he devotes to movies like tha mask and liar liar. this is areally enjoyable film with a good story, great acting plus the light humour from supporting characters lightens up the film.
i love the concepts of this movie about time travell and fixing past event which can in theory totally rewrite memories and your life. the plot is good a bit confusing at times. the acting is great with ashton kutcher playing the troubled main charcter quite well. fun to watch, but can be slow at times.
Well my cinamatic viewing of PotC 3 was almost spoiled by the pompous idiot who cackled like a maniacal hyena throughout. However Captian Jack Sparrow to the rescue, and WHAT a rescue it was!!!!
I had such fun, packed to the rafters with humour both verbally and visually. Johnny Depp sparkles again as Captain Jack SAVVY!! The supporting cast are wonderful too, Fantastic acting and a delight to watch. And Miss Swann finally gets to kick some ass and become a top class pirate, here's to girl power! Once again that DAMN monkey steals every scene he's in. But the best scenes are Jacks endless conversations with his imaginary selfs, and the fantsatic epic battle scene at the end. The CGI is stunning, great action scenes and some very pionent scenes too.
Small downer is that the plot is a bit shifty as in its almost as if they have combined 2 stories into one film. And even at nearly 3hrs long it flew by and i was always entertained. So if your looking for a very funny non-interlectually stimulating , action packed intreging film then this is it. Ps stay till after the credits cos theres a small scene slipped in there. the sneaky buggers!
My final thought, applause for a DISNEY film that's opening scene is of men, women and children being hanged for piracy!! Gotta love the irony, its right up there with the assisted suicide of lemings off cliffs????
Oh Jim Carrey----> Dark and moody its a winner even before the film starts in my books! What an excellent way to spend a few hours. Delve into a very dark suspense filled, paranoia laced murderous chilling thriller with lashings of numerological "evil" references.
The Acting of Jim "Rubber Face" Carrey once again shows that he can pull off the Tormenting, Serious and Creepy characters. And actually act without the need for silly faces, comedic voices or goofy dances. The supporting cast are good too.
However what i really loved about this movie was the Dialogue and Narration. Maybe it was just me but it really stood out, creating that air of 50's Detective film, which glided right into the story surrounding the character in 'Topsy Krepps' (top secret) novel. I also really enjoyed the way the story played out even if there were some plot holes. The ending is particularly intregeing but i thought it did drag in where i thought it was the perfect place to end it they didn't rather adding another quite irrelavent scene.
Overall a really excellent murder mystery suspense thriller with an intimdating dark streak throughout. And in no way a HORROR! Just a little creepy thats all. Oh and if anyone can explain the relevence of Ned the dog? (i have a theory but still im a little confused!!!)
Starts of very funny and light hearted with the great narration then evolves into a heart warming story about living life to the fullest and taking chances. Before finally becoming this Beautiful heart- wrenching emotionally compelling tale of accepting death. (wait whats with all the hearts?...never mind cutesy films have this effect on me probably why i aviod them)
A truelly excellent film with a great story and Fantastic acting especially from Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Emma Thompson. Very touching, charming and thought provoking , it left me rather enchanted and a really fantastic ending too.
Well where to start? Cast? Ok so we got Edward Norton as young thief Jack or mentally retarded Brian.Tthen we have Robert De Niro as Nick who's aiming to finish his career on a high. Nick's love interest in the form of Angela Bassett and his Long time friend and mentor Max, played by the legend that is Marlon Brando. The cast alone should have people rushing to see this movie.
So next we have the plot. Typical hiest movie, golden spectre worth millions is housed in a extremely secure building in a safe that is virtually unpickable. Jack/ Brain is the inside guy a slow mentally challenged janitor who cases the joint and plans the hiest with Nick'c expert knowledge. Has the great tension between the two thiefs and their distrust and disapproval is constantly being played out. Can they work together to the big pay off or will they clash heads in epic proportions and lose the "Score"?
The Acting is truelly excellent to watch and De niro as usual just glides throught this movie with superb acting and the smooth charm that everyone loves. Brando is great too providing the wise words and setting up the scene and providing information on Nick and on the hiest. However its Norton that steals every scene, whether its as cocky and flash Jack or the loveable (and increadably well acted) Brian. He provides a freshness to the plot and has some really witty and darkly funny lines.
Excellent Hiest movie, great cast, excellent acting, beautiful settings and a Fantastic plot. However its the hiest scenes and the very final scene that really made me love this film. Yeah Jack when did you start to think you were better that Nick?
Wow just Wow! Probably the best Epic action film I have ever seen! Incredably understated cast in Gerard Butler, David Wenham, Vincent Regan ad Dominic West. Who just work so well and bring great passion and conviction to their characters.
I loved the narration from Wehnam's character that echo's from start to finish, telling the tale of the great Spartan King Leonidas. It really helps to set the dark haunting ethos of this story. Also the dialogue and excellent one liner's such as 'then we will fight in the shade' and 'Because only Spartan women give birth to real men' really created both wit and the power and raw emotion that the story was about.
It was the truelly astonishing fight scenes that left me stunned. Great brutal battles, Bone crunching sound efffects, blood splatter, limb's flying through the air and good old Spartan Hell fury! All rounded off to the driving tones of an excellent music score.
Another thing I did love was the rousing speeches and that unbridled courage and inteegraty of personal sacrifice and honour. When done right and with actors that make you feel like standing up and grabbing the nearest spear and knife, charging into battle screaming at the top of your lungs, then i know that its a great film.
But i couldn't give it a full set of stars because i am sick of hollywood pulling this razzle dazzle dust over historic events. I love learning of the ancient cultures and was hoping that this was going to be true to form, and if it wasn't to be a real event portral then fine, fictionalise it but i cant stand when they just mix the too. Why have part real life part fantasy, all it does is creates more problems for the less knowledgable trying to seive through the two.
But with that said if you just want a great epic action adventure with dark themes, blood violence and good old honour and courage then this is a fantastic example!
Well Mr John McClane please step forward and take a bow!!!! Excellent addition to the Die Hard series, but very different to the other films. Firstly McClane has to protect geeky hacker Matt Farrell (Justin Long) from the "Bad guys" because Farrell has created part of a code being used my internet terrorist to ultimately close the USA down.
This film is packed with high kicking, gun tooting, car chasing, helicopter killing action that will quite literally have you holding your breath andwatching in amazement at the brutallity of some of the scenes. there is some truelly increadable scenes including the helicopter V's a police car, and the 18 wheeler at the end. And reminiscent of the first film, McClane again ends up hanging on for dear life in an elevator shaft with a fireball below him.
Justin Long provides much needed computer geekyness to the technologically inept detective, and they both play of each other wonderfully and exhibit much needed comedy and one- liners. And i found it quite funny, considering the content.
When I first herd the internet based terrorism I had doubt it could fall rather flat, but it works soooooo well, new threat for a new age. And Timothy Olyphant is great as the cyber vilans leader, reliant on hired goones and his trusted hackers, he bearly lifts a finger to take out McClane and Farrell. He's smart, cunning, educated, ruthless and determined. Then you have Maggie Q providing that women can kick major ass! i mean she really beats McClane bad.
It really is a great film, solid plot, excellently directed and acted. brilliant cast and trys to tie in very very subtly the previous films. one of my fav quote has to be (from McClane) "you know that cute, kung fu-ing hooker bitch that likes to kick people, yay well last time i saw her she was at the bottom of a elevator shaft with a 4x4 shoved up her ass!!" Classic!
i just love this movie! One of the few books we had to study for English Lit that i actually liked and continue to read alot. The characters and cast off set every thing about this story so beautifully. Gary Sinese and John Malkovich play Lenny and George with such neutrality as though they were born for the roles.
The only let down was the ending, lackes the emotion and power of the book as its too abrupt, missing the tender and raw scene in the final part of the book.
wow! just wow! Its not often i watch a movie and feel just amazed or blown away by it, so when the credits roled I was speechless.
I mean the story is great, excellently carved out and exicuted. The action is astonishing both visually and audio wise. I mean when those machines transform and attack its incredable, the special affects are just great and they look so real even though there obviously not. By far my fav was Optimus Prime, seeing that trucking monster invade the screen was great. There could have been more focus on the other autobots, but what there was, was well done with great action and comedy moments like them hiding on sam's house, and resisting the urge to kill his annoying parents! Really impressed by the human aspects the cast were great. Astoningly impressed by Shia La Beouf as Sam and megan Fox excellent as his car jacking girl. Also Much priase to Jon Voight, Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel and Hugo Weaving (For a very emotionally charged Voice role). I however did not like John Turturro's character though the performance was good. I actually was hoping for a decepticon possibly a small teethy one to peel the flesh from him a dry freeze him......is that wrong?
Ok so besides my insatiably need for torture in a film i loved it i want to own it and i will be very eagarlly awaiting for what could be a highly successful and groundbreaking set of sequels. Only queruel wasnt the wholesome American message of Self-Sacrifice and one life lost to save the many ruining by the event that occurs with Sam and the cube? But heck i do like the new message why sacrifice ourselfs in a noble act when we can annihalte the enemy by shoving the incendary device up there Asses! What a ride go see it great fun and fantastic jaw dropping action! Funny, sexy cars, big trucks, cute but deadly machines and awesome values like courage, humanity and survival all washed in!
Love live the Earthlings for all our faults we still know how to detect and kick the butts of the enemy!
Oh fucking love that song playing in the opening credits!
Holy Hell this was Brutal, Raw, unrestrained horror gore!! But I liked it ALOT!! I felt myself drawing elements and comparisions with lower rated horror/gore films of late like "The Hill's Have Eyes" (But a carnival deep south feel), Hostel, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Asylum. But the feel of this one is just a whole lot better.
Set around halloween in the 1970's a group of 2 guys and 2 girls are touring off road attractions for a book guide. They come across a little shop of "horrors" filled with all kinda strange and odd, but seemingly harmless stuff, they even go on a murder ride and find out about the local Crazy Dr Satan who tortured and experimented on his patients. Setting off in search of info they get into a lot of bother in the form of a Red neck family with serios issues.....like torture, skinning, cannibalism, satanic rituals, and even a little Ed Gein skin mask wearing!
I loved the Sound track to this movie it sets off the screen play so well. Perfectly in tune woth the 70's style only adds to the air of tension in this movie. With pounding Baselines and strange very otherworldly echos blasting in very slow scenes and softer but melodramatic music gratuating through the extremer more violent and disturbing parts. One poiniant use of music is in the scene where the cop is shot, utter sillence leading upto it so the gun shot deafens both the ears and the mind!
Great work though by the actors/actresses in the victim and Nut family side of things! The crazies are just ubsolute Psychos and if they weren't it wouldn't work as well. There is no remorse, no theory behind it, no mercy, they just kill and mutilate cos they like it!
They are all crazy with Bill Mosely's character Otis, the sickest. But my God that Sheri Moon Zombie is one crazy Bitch....Air head Bumb blonde hyped up on killing armed with a hunting knife.....now that is scary stuff!
I loved the fact that she stopped mid slice and dice to spit the blood out of her mouth then just goes back to the stabbing like it was nothing!
Firstly let me just say i'm appalled that this has been released separately from Death Proof and not as part of the intended adventurous double feature GRINDHOUSE. The glorious homage to 70's short quality horror style when chicks were fun and free and guys still kicked ass without health and safety wardens on their backs.
Now lets start by saying the older cinematic style at the very beginning sets that wonderful dated style and just glistens with the excitement and glory that the intended Twin feature was proposed. Then the Machete trailer was fantastic, it was fast, furious, brutal, comic, dark, sassy and sexy. What a great idea to produce these mock installments.
So onto the feature film.....please don't provide your own sound effects or the snipers shall demolish your frontal lobes. Mr Rodriguez Bra-fucking-vo seriously, to provide the industry with top rate slightly tongue in cheek but still remarkable Zombie flick is a real achievement. It very strange to place this theme because it doesn't fall firmly into categories easily yes is horror and a zombie flick but its not a very "scary" film nor is it very dark in nature. its quite humorous in dialogue, vision and in the bizzare nature of some scenes but not a comedy like Shaun of the dead. It has that strangeness of a b-movie but due to cast, quality and sheer greatness it clearly isn't B-movie material. I have no clue on why i'm discussing this but it makes my review look deep and long so i shall continue.
Early characters set up the story in a small town an army crew take over a BioChem lab where a weapon "gas" which basically zombiefies people into walking crazed abscesses is being kept. The soldiers led by Bruce Willis are all on a regimented program of this gas to prevent their prior exposure and symptoms coming to a head. The gas manufacturer is played excellently by Naveen Andrews Although the Balls fascination was far to creepy. Well the gas is released in order for a larger selection of "zombies" to cure the soldiers. Enter the merry band of residents fighting to survive.
Tying into the residential misfits is the Husband and Wife doctors in the middle of a struggling marriage due to her gay affair and planned spousacide. Also the love story of Cherry Darling ( a gogo dancer) and El Wray, The Bar B Q and cop brothers Recipe Fued and the ass kicking babysitting sisters.
Every character has a role to play and they play it excellently, there was no person that i didn't like nor think acted badly or wasn't really relevant to the film. Josh Brolin was seriously divine as the very menacing but dashing Doctor, And Marley Shelton was great too as his Dr Wife and her little "friends" to make you numb. Visually she had that damsel in distress look with that glorious make up but she acted with strength and heroism a vein all the character transition through.
Then we have My favs El Wray and Palamito/ Cherry Darling. Wray is Cute and very hard assed but you know he has a back story built up by his interaction with the characters and the "missing" reel where it supposedly revealed is a great touch in my opinion and added classiness to the sex scene. And great gunslinging skills and the knife action at the hospital is fun to watch and brought a massive grin.
Now Cherry woo now i defy any one not to admit how hot Rose McGowan is in this, her demeanor and attitude, plus that gentle vulnerable side add a real affinity for the character. But them i must admit i was in awe of that fantastically Bitching Gun for a leg!!!
And a very special mention to Quentin Tarantino on his guest appearance which had me in fucking stitches as the horny and very quickly blistered Soldier, which the hots for the easier access amputee.
This is not for the weak stomach not the easily shocked, because it is full of blood splatter, and exploding zombies after gun shots, immense pustules, cannibalism and erupting nastinesses. But Now you know why i liked it so much. Think Ebola Zombie strain.
The Devil's Reject's fit the role easily and following the Firefly family's adventures from the House of a 1000 Corpses its no wonder they got such a awesomely Badass nickname. So after killing, mutilating, abusing, piliging, raping, skinning and beating the hell out of over 70 people, the law finally get wise and raid the Firefly house, in a hail of bullets Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie) and Otis (Bill Moseley) escape leaving Mother Firefly at the mercy of Sadistic Sheriff Wydell (William Forsythe).
I think this had a much different feel than the previous film. Where as the first was very very brutal, sadistic and gory, this is slightly less in our face. It still has enough shock factor and bloodiness to live up to the style imposed. Otis is still the same sadistic freek and baby is still annoyingly bubbly but deadly. Also Captian Spauldin's amergance as Papa Firefly provide the twisted family dynamic and loyalties.
I liked that they was this almost full circle to events with the Evil being hunted by the Law (good) for the Good to become the hunter and inflict equally as violent and twisted acts on the new Pray (Fireflys). And then for it to again switch back. And another thing was the twisted perseption that we should be feeling sorry for the family being subjected to Wydell's wrath. They only tortured and killed tonnes of people in sadistic and grotesque manner. But look they love each other and are only trying to protect their family. lol
I loved the story developement, and the finally scene is fantastic especially with the overtones of Free Bird by Lynyrd Synyrd. The Music once again is brilliant and compliments the scenes well.
So all raise a glass to that Twisted Fucker Rob Zombie in a top rate Blood Fest!!!
Where to start on this one? Ok lets go with the classic warnings first, then a plot summary, then a WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH IT IF YOU LIKE HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So firstly its a Spanish horror film so its mainly subtitles for us non-Spanish viewers (1st warning). Its not a terribly long film about 1 hour 10 mins (2nd warning) It is very darkly shot and a bit shaky viewing as its "Hand held camera" shot (3rd warning) It's not a film that gives you many twists and turns nor is it Brain food viewing, answers are not supplied at the end (4th warning)
Now onto the plot seen as Flixster fails to provide on it, I'll enlighten the few that read this. The story starts off in broadcasting fashion, a news reporter (Angela) is at a fire brigade station doing a report on the firefighters and their work called "While you Sleep". Its supposed to be an intreging insight into the world of these men who provide safety from fire outbreaks, fix water leaks and rescue animals and people alike from danger in and around the home. And thats how it begins with interviews and a small tour of the station, until they get a call to a building.
******SPOILERS AHEAD ALERT****
They follow 2 firefighters Alex and Manu into the building and learn they're needed to force entry into an old ladies apartment after neighbors hear her violent screams. When they get upstairs however all hell breaks lose when the old lady attacks the accompanying cop ripping his throat out with her teeth. Alex is then subsequently thrown from the top floor of the stairs and the building is sealed within minutes by the local police issuing an NBC quarantine on the building with over 12 people inside. With a crazy vicious woman upstairs and very spooky happenings beginning, they are unable to leave so the trapped people try to survive all under the gaze of cameraman Pablo and Angela's reporting skills capturing everything.
So whats to like about [REC]? Everything!!! Its a very very good zombie/ horror film. Its a very dark and dingy shooting to the actual filming which just helps to give it a very dire feeling, especially at the end when things go almost completely dark and only a small beam of light is shown. It just adds to the tension factor because you just never know what or where things might be or popping up.
The action is in short bursts so you just get a few seconds to relax then BAM!!! it kicks off again. This flurry motion has that roller coaster feeling and because the film is rather short you never feel bored or uninterested.
It also doesn't have a very complex story which helps because it doesn't draw away from the tension with subplots and ideas ect. and even when some information is given at the end at to what is happening it isn't too much to go into information overdrive.
The "Zombies" are visually not that different to the "normals" visually except their eyes change and they tend to be covered in blood from bitting others or feeding. But the creepy part they do bring though is a possessed sounding, howling screech with a hint of cat cries to it that sends shivers down even the sternest spine.
The whole aire around [REC] will draw up comparisons with the likes of the Blair witch project and Cloverfield due to the style of which it is shot, however this is so much more expertly made and conducted that you actually feel as though you have stumbled onto some long lost footage of a "event" that the government covered up about a zombie virus. Its incredibly realistic and well acted you truly feel the anguish and terror of the characters and the acting is superb. Finally the ending is just fantastic ending in a total cliffhanger, Blair witch style.
If you love horror and you want some quality scares, and if you like the voyuer feeling then this might suit you equally as well.
