Shorts (Shorts: The Adventures of the Wishing Rock) - PG This is a movie I probably would not have seen in a million years, except for the fact that it was playing between two movies I wanted to see at the drive-in this weekend. I didn't know a thing about it going in but found myself actually enjoying it, despite being a total kid flick. Sure, there is some typical gross-out humor, such as a giant booger monster, but even I can remember a time when I would imagine what it would be like to have anything you wished for. Definitely a fun ride for young ones. August 30, 2009

The Final Destination - R This film was basically garbage. You know it, and I know it. But gosh darn it if it isn't a bit of fun. It brings nothing new to the table, but being the fourth in the series you should know what you're getting by now. Basically death is unavoidable, even for the most likable of characters, so you just watch the series of events unfold like a riveting game of Mouse Trap, to see what gory way the next person is going to die. Mykelti Williamson was definitely the person that was saddest to see go. August 30, 2009

H2: Halloween II - R This was definitely the worst film ever made under the Halloween banner. I don't know what movie Rob Zombie was trying to make, but it was not a movie about Michael Myers. He missed the mark completely, first off by making him grunt. Myers is silent at all times. Also, what's with this mama's boy crap? Did he confuse Michael Myers with Jason? The scariest part of the Halloween series is the psychological terror of knowing someone is just plain evil and you don't know why. Even Laurie and Dr. Loomis bear no resemblance to the orginal characters. These are the 2 characters that give the original films heart, not to mention someone to root for. All that is missing in this abomination Rob Zombie calls a sequel. Instead, it's just an opportunity for him to parade around a bunch of filthy rednecks...how original. August 30, 2009

Monsters vs. Aliens - PG What a wonderful surprise! I went into this film not expecting much but found myself laughing quite a bit and loving the characters. The storyline reminded me a bit of Hellboy, in that government captured creatures help to take down other strange creatures, but it's done with a unique twist. The animation wasn't up to Pixar standards, but it didn't take away from the film one bit. I'm definitely glad we gave it a chance or else we would have missed out on a delightful animated feature! The Perfect Holiday - PG Can you say GENERIC?! This film was nowhere near realistic or relateable to any being on the planet. It completely lacked heart and charm. It seemed to be thrown together just to get a film out there for the Christmas season to raked in some money. If you ask me, it was the kind of rubbish that was fit for Lifetime at best! This Christmas - PG-13 A very non conventional sort of Christmas movie. Packed with drama, but that's part of being in a big family. Overall I enjoyed it and felt there were some hysterical moments. My biggest complaints would have to be the overly long scenes used to promote Chris Brown's music and some of the dysfunction within the family where sexual immorality is seen as perfectly acceptable, even within the parents home! I would have preferred if Joe and Ma'Dear had already been married as I think it would have provided them with more authority and not taken away from the plot one bit. July 14, 2009

An American Carol - PG-13 I support the majority of the values that were being promoted here, which is the reason for the 2 stars. Otherwise I have to be honest and say that it wasn't that funny. Certainly not one of Zucker's best and sometimes it got downright preachy, which is so out of place in a satire. Let the comedy get the message across! July 14, 2009

The Secret Garden - G I really enjoyed this film when it came out, but after reading the book I could see how much it deviated at times. Still, I felt they captured the essence of the story with great acting and beautiful sets. You could really understand the enchantment the children must have found in the garden! I was a little thrown off by this one sort occultist scene where the children are chanting around a fire. Other than that, it's just beautiful and even a bit romantic! July 14, 2009

Arthur - PG Took a long time for me to get around to seeing Arthur, and there were some mildly humorous and charming moments, but not as good as I hoped. No question that the chemistry between Arthur and his butler was the highlight here! July 14, 2009

Vice Versa - PG I was excited to revisit this film as I enjoyed it so much in my childhood. I must say I didn't recall all the bad language or adult themes, coming from Fred Savage no less! My how times have changed, but I still appreciated how well this remake was done, especially when so many movies about switching places have been done. Judge Reinhold and Fred Savage play their perspective characters to a tee, which is really the highlight. You actually believe they are residing in the new body! July 14, 2009

Groundhog Day - PG This film continues to be among my favorite starring Bill Murray. Sure it can be redundant at times, but the writing keeps you hanging on til the end. Very creative and a sweet romantic tale to boot! July 14, 2009

Evil Dead 2 - R Perfection! What the original lacked, Sam Raimi more than made up for it in this reworking. Bruce Campbell really finds his niche here and plays it up to the extreme! They also cut out many of the unnecessary characters from the first and turned it into a real cult classic. Dark and funny! July 14, 2009

The Evil Dead - NC-17 Typical horror flick of the 80's, complete with all the cliche characters. Sam Raimi clearly did not hit his stride yet, or perhaps the flick was under funded. Anyway, the good makeup and effects save this from being a total run of the mill horror. It's hard to believe that's the same Bruce Campbell we've all come to know and love! July 14, 2009

If a Man Answers - Unrated Such an adorable and funny film, starring Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee. Such great chemistry and she's a real beauty. No wonder Bobby Darin fell for her in such a big way! July 14, 2009
