It takes a lot for a film to get into my top 10, let alone any higher. The Matrix has found its way into my top 5 of all time. It's just that good.
Despite all the modern technologies, the guns, the computers- this film has a basis in a milenia-old philosophy propsed by Plato (Plato's Analogy of the Cave).
It also contains one of my favourite characters EVER- Agent Smith, played unbelievably well by Hugo Weaving.
It truly is an awesome film that I will enjoy watching over and over again.
I cannot say more than, from the actors/plot/music this is one of the best films ever made. It's simply awesome- because it's so much more than guns and swearing. From a linguistic point of view, the script is simply stunning- it's unbelievably well written. A fantastic film each and every time I watch it.
I feel (contrary to a lot of people, no doubt) that this was/is a pretty decent sequel.
The Neo/Smith's "courtyard scene" is stupendous. As is Monica "She wasn't kissing your face, my love" Bellucci.
A lot of people were disappointed with the second of these films, but I wasn't.
I thought it had a good amount of action, but really explored the story and characters a lot more (which ultimately made the 1st film better as well).
I could watch both these films many times over.
Superb plot (with some iconic scenes, such as the rippling cup of water/lawyer-eating T-Rex...), great director and a fantastic group of actors...and DINOSAURS!!! What more could you ask for?
Spectacular- watch it. This is one of the rare occasions where the film is actually as good as the book. Hanks and Clarke Duncan are awesome in this film.
I have never ever known anybody portray Adolf Hitler in such a perfect way as Bruno Ganz does in this film.
But what completes the film is the fact that- due to it being seen through the eyes of Hitlers secretary- it goes on for 1/2 hour after Hitler's death, following her escape from Berlin. It's not just the story of Hitler during his last few days- its the story of everyone around him as well.
Quite simply, this is not just another war film. It is special...unique...stunning.
There is not a single part of this film that dissapoints- with such iconic scenes as the boulder-chase and melting Nazi's. With the combined talents of Spielberg, Lucas and Ford, this film is just supreme.
This film...well...it's just brilliant. It has the same great features of "Raiders" but with the added element of Connery. John Rhys-Davies is, once again, very funny indeed. My favourite of the trilogy.
Johnny Depp really does give this film that extra edge. His acting and portrayal of Jack Sparrow are just magnificent. Obviously, there are some other great actors involved as well, who deserve some credit.
The only word i can use for this is...Surreal. It really didn't make much sense. Thank the Lord I'm such a huge fan of Surrealism then...because I LOVED this film. It was pure and utter genuis. The music was brilliant as well.
Obviously this film is well known for its explicit nature. Particularly the explicit scenes featuring Eva Green (the full-body shot on the bed & stripping off to "La Mer by Charles Trenet- a favourite song of mine).
But the "menage-a-trois" relationship is blended SO well with the very different (but historically brilliant) setting of the 1968 Student Riots that it is so much more than just "sex for the sake of sex".
The story of the 3 relationships (Isabel & Theo/Isabel & Matthew/Matthew & Theo) is absolutely superb. As is the story & realisation that, however she acts, Isabel is completely lost without her brother and cannot bear to be parted from him.
Add to that some stunning acting and great film parodys (which are also blended in very well with the plot)- this is one of the best-made films I've ever watched.
My friend and I were very surprised to discover this film to be largely in Spanish but (being a languages stuent myself) we did not mind at all. What also surprised me was that I thought this film would just be some sort of children's fairytale-esque film.
And, to an extent, it was a fairytale. But the almost seamless inclusion of a story of war, bloodshed and misery in Franco's Spain is absolutely superb.
This film surpassed ALL expectations I had of it- and then some. With some brilliant special/visual effects as well it is genuinely fantastic.
Still a classic- brilliant plot, fantastic acting, awesome everything else. Home to such classic lines as "Here's looking at you kid", and "Of all the gin joints in all the towns..." and also, "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship". One of the best films ever made (and that's not an exageration).
From Wesley Snipes, to the club scene with New Order's "Confusion" playing in the background, to the good plotline- this film gets a top rating from me.
