Jennifer's Body - R A bit of a mixed bag, this film was funny (mostly down to Diablo Cody's writting), quite creepy in places and, more importantly, not so cheesy that it was un-watchable.
Unfortunately there was just...something...missing from it. I'm really not sure what, but the film lacked an aspect that would have made it a lot better. It doesn't hurt to have Amanda Seyfried in a film either.

The Last King of Scotland - R An excellent film; McAvoy is very good as always, but this is an exceptional performance from Forest Whitaker. Well worth watching. October 31, 2009

Hard Candy - R I'd been wanting to see this for a while, and when I finally did...well, I thought it was unbelievable. When you consider this is a very simple plot (smart teenage girl finds and takes hostage the man she believes to be a paedophile), with just 2 main characters (and only 5 in total) shot in just 3 or 4 different places, this is exceptionally well made.
The tension brought out is amazing. The scene where she's about to "cut" Jeff is so long and tense-filled it's one of the most difficult, painful scenes I've ever seen.
Patrick Wilson is pretty good, but Ellen Page really shows just how great an actress she is. And the whole thing is beautifully shot, from the sweeping camera, via the switch to blue-tinted lens, to the black silhouetted shot of Jeff's death.
This is a sweet, innocent-looking but very, very disturbing film that deserves to be watched.

I Cento passi (One Hundred Steps) (The Hundred Steps) - PG A true story of Peppino Impastato, a boy who hit adulthood in Sicily during the turbulent 60's and 70's and who spent his life fighting for Communism and against the Mafia.
An excellent film that really showcases the epic struggle that the new "young generation" went through in their fight against authority during these decades.

District 9 - R Now THIS is how you go about making a film. Take a new twist on an old story, put it in a completely unusual setting, add non-professional actors, with genuine talent (and fantastically odd accents) & wrap it all up with some great special effects.
I think the fact it was based somewhere like Johannesburg worked well, otherwise it would have just been a run-of-the-mill "homegrown American hero saves America (and obviously then, the world) from anihilation".
I know there's a few people who don't like the way it shifted from being political satire to an proper action film, but I don't see it that way. I definitely didn't notice it when watching it in the cinema. I think a few people need to stop looking for faults at every opportunity & just sit back and watch the film.
In fact I thought this satirical commentary ran throughout the film, but the way the action, suspense & definite humour was factored in was brilliant. And there's no end to the praise for Sharlto Copley's talent here.
I looked forward to seeing this for a very long time, and I was not dissapointed one little bit.

Dracula cerca sangue di vergine... e morì di sete!!!, (Andy Warhol's Dracula) - R Ummm- a very weird/strange film. Not bad though- although I was unbelievably disapointed with the, quite frankly, rather stupid ending (where the almighty Dracula gets his limbs ridiculously sliced off- like the Black Knight in Monty Python's Holy Grail- by a stupid, rapist, Italian farm-hand with an American accent).
