Hi there, I'm James, A full time carer for my dad, who is paralyzed and partially blind. Being a carer means I get out very little as I have very little time off, it's a stressful and demanding (but also very rewarding) job at times. You surprisingly get very little help/respect from people and even family members :-(
But on the plus side, I get to watch a lot of dvds thanks to my wee portable dvd player :-) Movies are ace, I've always loved movies, they transport you to another world for that few hours they are on, Whatever your mood, you'll find a movie for it. So I love movies;) Doh! Off course I do or I would not be on this site:P. I love dvds and have a huge collection of over 1700 and a few HD-DVD (no BD, No hurry for that as of Feb 2009) http://www.invelos.com/DVDCollection.aspx/jamestalkalot (my movie collection) -------------------------------------------------- I LOVE 80s movies. I'm an 80's child, so those movies hold a big place in my heart, along with the stars of them. I hope to one day own every 80's movie I ever loved, as well as some classics I missed out on for whatever reason (probably out having fun at the time :)) -------------------------------------------------- I'm a HUGE Elvis fan, so that means I also love all his movies...Yep even the really rubbish ones (there's a few:P)....I have most of his movies on DVD at last...Bring out Elvis on Tour on DVD damn it in all it's multi-screen glory!!!! -------------------------------------------------- I also love Horror movies and I have a very big horror collection on DVD, with Day of the Dead being my fave horror movie. I love to laugh so I love a good comedy, and I love to sing so I love a good musical (Rocky Horror being my fave) I'm a big Bud Spencer and Terence Hill fan, so off course I love the Spaghetti Western genre as well...Hell, there's not much I don't like. Although I find it hard to watch a movie that is subtitled, as I can't read fast enough and enjoy the cinematography at the same time :(...I hate that....Tis one or the other for me....The amazing Downfall is the only subtitled DVD in my vast collection to date (EDIT: I also picked up Apocalypto on DVD subs and all but as of Feb 2008 I've yet to try and watch it...Wish me luck because I'm going to need it :P... I watched it and it was ace, subs were no prob at all :-D haha) check out my website at http://www.jamestalkalot.myby.co.uk for more info on my DVD collection/blog and more (site rated PG) -------------------------------------------------- (Update Nov 11 2007) Q. Why am I on this site? A. I'm on this site to make some friends from around the world who share a passion for movies as much as I do. It may be that we love almost all the same movies, or it may be we just love movies with the same star, Hell you may even just be a huge Bubba Ho-Tep fan ;). I'm NOT on here for LOVE! So if that's the only reason you want to add me as a friend? Well I'm sorry, but you're wasting your time... If you want to try and get money out of me just by batting your fake virtual eyes? Then all I can say to that is this... "IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN" |

I loved this as a kid and all these years later (35 now) It's still, if not more so.. An Amazing movie.
Perfect in almost every way. A total classic Stanley Kubrick movie and I think his best movie.
Not going to bother with a long review saying what I love about this film as it's all been said to death already.
One of the most quotable movies ever, one of the best 80s movies and without doubt one of the best war movies (of any kind) ever made.
"The deadliest weapon in the world is a marine and his rifle. It is your killer instinct which must be harnessed if you expect to survive in combat. Your rifle is only a tool. It is a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead marines and then you will be in a world of shit because marines are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?"
Day of the Dead

I was chuffed this was going to come out, first off, I LOVE Romero's version and it's one of my top 10 fave movies of all time, second I thought the remake of Dawn was ace, so I thought no reason why this should not be as good.
THEN!
Then I saw the trailer for it, and like most fans of Day I scrubbed this of my want to see list.
So It did not come out for a few years, then it went right to DVD, the fans hated it and I forgot about it. I then started to see some glowing reviews for this movie and the more I read both good and bad reviews the more I saw a pattern.
See! If you come into this movie expecting A Romero movie or a follow-up to Dawn then you're going to hate this movie.
If you come into this movie knowing that it's a pure fun video game type movie(think 'Left 4 Dead) with daft puns, lots of gore, and more cheese than a 3 year old unwashed penis, then you're going to, at the very least, like this movie a lot.
It really felt like Left 4 Dead the movie to me and it was a fun ride. I'm glad I gave this movie a chance :-D
What Women Want
PG-13
Mel Gibson's ace in this.
The movie is very funny with a good story (that does run out a steam a bit by the end mind you)
I wish Marisa Tomei had more to do in it
:(
Great chemistry between Mel and Helen Hunt keeps the movie fun to watch
For me this is a now classic rom-com, one that makes me smile all the way through.
Just pray women are never able to read guys minds, if they ever made that movie it would be x-rated :-D

Vicky Cristina Barcelona
by KevinQuite simply one of the best Woody Allen films I have ever set my eyes on! Thats saying alot, the guy is a movie legend. I would rank this up there with Annie Hall, which is often regarded as his best film.
First off I love how the movie opens up. The scene in the resurtant when Javier Bardem's character suggests that Vicky( Rebecca Hall) and Christina( Scarlett Johanson) should fly to Spain with him and perhaps going site seeing and afterwords "make love" I love how he was so causal about the whole situation and how appualed Vicky was by the suggestion. At the same time Christa embrasses the opportunity. That scene says so much about all three characters and sets up the story perfectly. You can defentitly tell that Allen has complete control over this film.
From there on you see the relationship unfold. It has a very seductive feel to it. So incredibly sexy and provocative these scenes are.Spain was the damn near perfect place to set this film,it really does a great job and seduces the viewer, very effective! It plays this very thin line on relationships. Just how long can a relationship last? How do you know if its meant to be? Can love be free or must it be contained. These are some very important and controversial issues that the film adresses.
As for the performances, well one might say that Penelope Cruz steals the movie. And you know what I think she does, however I was surprised that she didnt come into the movie until the fifty minute mark. It was also nice to see Javier Bardem play a more sane character. He has so much range in this film, through his facial expression one could tell that he had seduced these young girls. Scarlett Johansson didnt wow in this film, probualy the weakest link. Rebecca Hall though, she was in her element. With this and Frost Nixon she has had quite the breakout year.
Overall you cant go wrong with this sophisticated love story. For all you guys out there who might not give this film a chance because its a " chick flick",well shame on you.
Juan Antonio: Maria Elena used to say that only unfulfilled love can be romantic.Check out this sophisticated love story, with jaw droping performances.

Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price
by .:SexiVixxENJust saw this,it came by recommendation of my good buddy Leslie.I really don't even know where to start with this.I am utterly shocked and physically sickened at what I saw and learned about the top Richest company in America.I do believe everyone that has a Wal Mart,or a Wal Mart Supercenter in their city and town and now to every country that Wal Mart is in. ought to educate themselves on the corrupt little building where they think they are finding all their supposed "deals".I am so disgusted as a mother and a consumer,I will never once set foot again into Wal Mart afetr viewing all of this. Its almost too much to take in,all the under handed ,lying and Worst of all cheating their employees out of basic rights and making their health insurance so high they cannot afford it.People kid yourselves no more those happy go lucky commercials are funded lies.Every single one of them.Their own Global manager of 9 years lost his job and did an interview because he was sickened at seeing the horrible environments that the people in the Wal Mart Chinese factories and such were enduring. They make less than $3 a DAY and work 10-14 hour days to assemble a toy that Wal mart turns around and sells for $14.99.There is so much more I could go on,and on,.People please hear me,If you do not believe me educate yourself,I feel ashamed I didn't know alot of this was going on.But if you are a Wal Mart employee,I am sure I am preaching to the choir. If you are a woman at Wal Mart please I implore to watch this I will change your entire outlook on the place you call your job.Again, this film is a wide eye opener and will make you just absolutely sick at what goes on and how the employees at all levels are treated.A MUST SEE!

Hannibal
by AmandaI like this film a lot, but of course it suffers - as all sequels do - by comparison to its predecessor, in this case 'Silence of the Lambs' The main reason for having a sequel at all was to showcase again the character of Hannibal Lecter, a monstrous creation everyone wanted to see more of after the first film. It could have bombed badly therefore if writer and actor had let us down by failing to catch the magic again. It was after all a decade after the original was made. But they don't, and Anthony Hopkins turns in another delicious performance as the man with the evil intent cloaked in inestimable, menacing charm.
Julianne Moore drew the short straw in having to re-create the Clarice Starling role that had been so memorably played by another actress. She does well in my opinion, but inevitably we keep thinking 'where is Jodie Foster?', and this lends her portrayal a lack of credibility which is entirely unfair. Gary Oldman's Mason Verger is suitably loathsome and manages to make Lecter seem almost like the hero in their battle of wits. If there is a weak link, Ray Liotta's Krendler seems a bit misplaced.
The direction deserves special mention. The lush, beautiful settings are mocked by the horror of what is happening in them and the perfectly-selected atmospheric music stayed in my mind long after the film had ended.
Once again, the film lacks realism, but as with the original, it doesn't matter. Of course things like this don't really happen - but so what? It's a film. Get over it! I was prompted after seeing it to read the books, and the right decision was made in changing the ending of this story from that written by Thomas Harris.
We were subsequently treated to another look at Lecter in a decent prequel movie, 'Red Dragon,' but I will not be alone in hoping that some day we will see yet more of him in a further instalment. Unlikely I suspect - but not impossible.
I´m giving a serious though in to eating your wife.

Bubble
by KevinSteven Soderbergh is quite the risk taker! He takes non-actors to play in this film. All 3 lead actors have never acted in a film before or since. With none of the actors having any prior experience, one would think that this movie would a disaster! Well I begg to differ, this film was flat out amazing! I mean the actors in the film impofized stories from thier real lifes into this. So yeah this is a character study more than anything. You can tell that the actors seemed nervous at the begging of the film. As the film progresses the dialogue becomes more interesting as well as the facial expressions, etc.
This is a character study and not a fast paced film by any means. If anyone knows my tatse in movies they know I aprriecate that in a film. Here is a movie that takes its time. Although we arent given much time, just over an hour in fact to know these characters. The story takes place in a doll factory in the Midwest. At first I was thinkg: WTF how can this movie work?? Not all of the movie takes place in the doll factory of course. Just the people that work there more or less. Rose, the new employee is joined by Martha and Kyle have to show her the ropes so to speak. I love the scenes between Rose and Martha, you can tell that Rose makes Martha uncombertable.Rose might come off as sweet as first, but it doesnt take long for anyone to notice that she is one demanding young woman. She takes advantage of the character Martha in the worst way.I assure in some scenes it looks like they could have gone into a cat fight.
The more this movie gets going the more intresting it becomes. The twist at the end makes the movie. Great character study from Soderbergh,he does a great job of making it all feel real.Which I of course loved. Loved every moment of this film, for its characters, its bold apporach, its twist and its demise of its characters! See this film!Hey, check out Soderbergh's gutsy film! One of the most surprising films I have witnessed!
