I saw this little gem of a movie 10 years ago or so and had almost forgot about it, but while looking through IMDB to help me add to my James Belushi dvd collection I clicked on the link it and it all came back to me of how good this movie was, so right away I had to see if it was on dvd and then I had to get it (amazon uk £3.95)
The movie is Groundhog Day meets 12:01 meets The Hitcher. I don't want to give any of the plot away as it's best not knowing much about it and just letting it play out. James Belushi is great in this and Kylie Travis is also very good (she gave up acting in 2001 though) and it's almost like a 2 actor play although there are other actors in it (not many) like Frank Whaley (swimming with Sharks). The movie is well shot and the fx are good for it's low budget. Well worth an hour and a half of your time. |

James Belushi and the 80s, this was at the very end of the 80s mind you and I remember going to the cinema with my friends, sisters and mum as a day out and we all came out loving this movie.
Skip almost 20 years later and I just watched it again for the first time since then on DVD (I got it with parts 2+3 that i've never seen before) since I'm collecting Jim Belushi dvds at the moment. Did I still enjoy this movie? You bet! James Belushi really sells the movie here, as great as the dog is, it's Belushi that keeps the movie going, forget about the plot, just enjoy James Belushi and Jerry Lee (the dog) in one of the best buddy cop movies of the 80s and a great James Belushi movie. |

WOW how good does this movie look? Probably the best looking movie ever put on film? It's just stunning to look at!
As a movie, it's very good, watch the 2 hour doc on the dvd to learn about the uber troubled history of this movie. It's not a superb movie and the knowing that well over an hour of footage is missing does not help as you wonder how good it could have been (see Kingdom of Heaven) Elizabeth Taylor is stunning in this movie but as good as all the leads are, it's the set design and music that steal the show. They just don't make em like this anymore and probably never will again (damn CGI to hell) 5 stars for effort and the thought of how good it is if that missing footage ever turns up. If you can't get enough of this kind of thing after you see this movie, see the superb HBO series ROME |

| Hanky Panky - PG |
A movie that was supposed to be for Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor became a movie for Gene and Gilda Radner (from SNL) who he later married and was married to her until she passed away in 1989 from ovarian cancer.
Sure it would have been great to have had Richard Pryor in this, but I think Gilda really makes this movie, the chemistry between Gene and Gilda is great and they went on to make 2 more movies together (The Woman in Red and Haunted Honeymoon) If you've yet to see this movie or have not seen it in a number of years and can't remember all of the plot, then please don't read the back of the DVD box (if you have it) as it tells you more than you need to know about Gildas character in the movie. Directed by Sidney Poitier (who had done Stir Crazy 2 years before) does an ok job of keeping the movie moving along, I have no idea why the movie is called Hanky Panky mind you? If anybody can tell me that then please let me know:D What you're getting here is a mystery movie with the usual Wilder antics, so if you're a fan then you're sure to enjoy this movie... There's a few decent famous faces in the movie and a few faces that were just babes in movie lands arms in the form of William Sadler (Die hard 2) and Steve James (American Ninja movies ) Although Steve is a blink and you'll miss him cop that's credited as a stunt man (who also died at a young age with pancreatic cancer in 93:( ) So this is a good movie and depending on your frame of mind when you watch it, it's a great movie, there's a lot of fun to be had but if you're looking for some Hanky Panky then you'll not find any in this movie. |

Fun movie and a fave movie on mine in this genre.
Some of the effects are still really great to this day, lots of now well known faces like Liam Neeson, but back then they were all pretty much never heard off. Lysette Anthony was only 17 when she did this movie??? My god she did not look 17, I was shocked when I found that out in the commentary on the dvd. The real star of this movie is the soundtrack, it's an amazing score and lifts the movie from being good to being great. (bad things) the glave is under used and the movie can drag a bit as every 2 mins a member of the party dies, infact this movie has so many actors in it, but they die 1 a min or so through the whole movie, so it gets a bit old and slows the movie down to a crawl at times. (ok, so it's not as bad as that but it sometimes can feels like it) This put me in the mood for Flash Gordon and I watched this movie after watching Excalibur again, these 3 movies should sit beside each other on your dvd shelf. Oh and yes that is Bernard Bresslaw (carry on movies) as the cyclops. "In the fortress you will need more than men and swords. You will need the power of the glave. " |
