| The Proposal - PG-13 |
I enjoyed The Proposal. But, I am sucker for romance and sometimes chick flicks, I like a fair amount of cheese with my film entertainment, and I want to lick a variety of substances off of Ryan Reynolds toned body. Yes, you can see parts of the plot unfolding before your very eyes, but I still enjoyed this movie. And to it's credit, they did add a few little twists here and there. I do enjoy Sandra Bullock as well, so I liked seeing her in this. She still looks great. It was nice to see Craig T. Nelson as the dad. I haven't seen much of him since his Coach days. I love Mary Steenburgen. Although she wasn't as comically intriguing as in Stepbrothers, she was still good. Betty White is always a joy to watch. Although, nothing will beat Mrs. Bickerman from Lake Placid or Rose Nylund from The Golden Girls, she is still a joy to watch on the screen. If you like chick flicks and romantic comedies, you will want to check out The Proposal. |

| Imagine That - PG |
Imagine Eddie Murphy's career slowly going down the toilet. Oh wait, if you've seen this movie, you don't have to imagine anything. Imagine That is the story of Evan Danielson. A busy stock broker who has little time for his child, after his divorce. Until he figures out that his daughter can go to an imaginary place, with the help of her guga. A blanket that transports her there. In this imaginary kingdom are three princesses and a queen who are very wise in the ways of financial investments. ( Yeah I was thinking the same thing right about then. ) Did I mention that this movie features Thomas Haden Church as a nature loving indian named Johnny Whitefeather? I only mention it, because if you do see this movie, you may want to hit the mute button every time he comes on screen. It will save the headache later. Oh how quickly they fall. The little girl that played Olivia was adorable and she did get to sing a Beatles song. That was the one star. This movie has a simple, although boring message... All you really need is love. In this case, the love between a father and a daughter. Unfortunately for this film, not even love, or the use of a classic Beatles song, or a cameo by the remarkable Martin Sheen ( he must have owed someone a really big favor for agreeing to this pile. ) could save this travesty. It billed itself as a lovable family comedy, but even my seven year old was bored within the first twenty minutes. Bad sign. |

| The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past - PG-13 |
Matthew McConaughey is hot, and Jennifer Garner is beautiful. This we know. Being a fan of both of them, I had to check this movie out. Knowing what I was probably in store for, a cheesy somewhat amusing, oh so predictable chick flick. Meet Connor Mead. A pretentious, self loving, successful photographer, who fancies himself a modern day Don Juan. Love them and leave them, before they get attached, or there is any chance for you to get hurt. We all know the type. Surprise Surprise... Connor is really a softy who is afraid to get his heart broken, by the one girl he pines for. ( Like we all didn't see that coming when the opening credits started to roll... ) And of course, he saves the day in the end, when his brothers wedding looks like a no go. All that was missing was a white horse and some cheesy fanfare. The parts of Uncle Wayne ( played by Micheal Douglas ) and Allison Vandermeeth ( played by Emma Stone ) , made this movie for me, if I could forget for a minute that oh yeah, I have seen that done a billion times before in A Christmas Carol and it's million and three revamps. I love Emma Stone. She looked very cute and at home in her 80s nerdy girl get up. She had some great one liners, that made me smile. I would have loved to see more of Anne Archer in this one. She still looks as great as she did back in the days of Falcon Crest. Lacey Chabert had some funny moments, but I will always see her as Claudia from Party Of Five. I also love Breckin Meyer, have since Clueless. But, he just isn't as good in a roll where he's not all that funny. He should go back to what he knows best. If you go in knowing what to expect from Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past - a semi entertaining very predicable, laced with melted Cheddar chick flick, then you won't be disappointed. It beats watching the late Billy Mays sell something on late night TV or another damn Michael Jackson life story... |

| Phoebe in Wonderland - PG-13 |
Phoebe In Wonderland is a Brilliant tale of a 9 year old girl, that suffers from Tourettes Syndrome. She is very familiar with the story of Alice, since her mother is writing a book on Wonderland. So when the school's new drama teacher decides to put on the play, Phoebe is very anxious to join the tea party. As Alice, she can escape into a world where she feels comfortable with friends she has known her whole life. I thought this was a wonderful film, one of the best films I have seen in awhile. It explores the need for escape into an alternate reality and the denial every family goes through when faced with a problem. Elle Fanning is absolutely adorable and she was nothing short of amazing as Phoebe. Felicity Huffman is a phenomenal actress and played the part of Hillary Lichten to a t. As a mom, I felt her pain. I am a super fan of Patricia Clarkson, ever since she was Sarah on Six Feet Under. With everything she puts herself into, she just seems to pull you in as well and take you along for the ride. I thought she was outstanding as the eccentric Mrs. Dodger. I am a huge fan of Alice In Wonderland, it is my favorite book and I can find myself easily lost in Looking Glass Land as well. So, I was quickly able to identify with Phoebe, and fall in love with this film. |

| Van Wilder: Freshman Year - R |
This movie was exactly what a thought it would be. Pretty cheesy and slightly stupid, with a couple laughs and some boobs thrown in for entertainment value. I think they can let the Van Wilder cash cow die. Quickly put her out of her misery, before anyone gets the not so bright idea to make another one. Jonathan Bennett is a little cutie. And although he did channel some of Ryan Reynold's mannerism as Van, you just can't have Van Wilder without the hotness or cutting whit that is Mr. Reynolds. I will say that Kristin Cavallari is very pretty and she did a good job as Kaitlin. |

| The Soloist - PG-13 |
Even though this movie was almost two hours and certain parts of it seemed to drag a tad, The Soloist really moved me. It was a powerful movie about how brilliance and talent can come from even the most corrupt of minds and how that brilliance can be found anywhere. It's a great tale of getting to know people for who they are, not what you see on the outside. Sometimes friends can be found in the most unexpected places. I love Robert Downey Jr. I think he is an amazing talent, and I will watch anything he does. I thought he did a great job as Steve Lopez. It felt real to me, which is very important in a movie like this. I thought Jamie Foxx was wonderful as Nathanial Ayers. He made me laugh and cry. His performance reminded me a little of his performance as Ray Charles in Ray. He is a very gifted actor. I wish that Catherine Keener would have had more time in the spot light in this one. I think that she is phenomenal. But, that and the slight drag were the only things I could fault this film for. |

| The Invisible Circus - R |
When Phoebe turns 18, she travels to Europe to find out what really happened to her older sister, Faith, who went over there in the 60s and died. I found The Invisible Circus to be somewhat entertaining. It had a decent story and managed to keep my attention. But, with the cast of Cameron Diaz, Blythe Danner, Jordana Brewster, and Christopher Eccleston I was expecting a little bit more than that. Jordana Brewster did look great in this movie. Back before she became a sickly skinny stick figure. Her and Christopher Eccleston had really good on screen chemistry in this one. Cameron Diaz and Camilla Belle, who played younger Phoebe, really had good onscreen chemistry as well. You really believed that they were sisters who genuinely loved one another. I wish you would have seen more of the amazing Blythe Danner on screen, but I can understand why it was written the way it was. I think I would like to read this book, I am sure it's a lot more detailed than the film. I think this film would have been a lot better had it not felt so rushed to fit everything in. |

| Beverly Hills Chihuahua - PG |
I really didn't want to see this movie. But being a mom, my 6 year old won since she has seen it and wanted me to watch it with her when I bought her the DVD. I do like Drew Barrrymore and Jamie Lee Curtis. I also think Piper Perabo is gorgeous, so that helped. I have always had a thing for Andy Garcia, but not so much as a German Shepard. The whole talking animals thing has been played out and the market is too oversaturated with dog movies. What more can dogs do that hasn't already been done? The plot was predicable, but that is to expected from these type of family films. I have to give Beverly Hills Chihuahua points for effort. It was sort of amusing and cute. Nothing spectacular by a long shot, but kids seem to like it. |

| Swing Vote - PG-13 |
I liked this movie, although it wasn't really what I expected. With all the big names in this cast, I guess I was just hoping for something a little more from this film. Although I have read mixed reviews about it. I know a lot of guys like Bud Johnson, so that honest portrayal by Kevin Costner was nice to see. Someone admitting they really don't know what's going on with the state of this country but knowing that they should pay more attention. I really enjoyed Madeline Carroll as Molly. She was cute, and smart and her and Mr. Costner had great father daughter chemistry on screen. I do like Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, and Nathan Lane but for whatever reason Dennis Hopper has always disturbed me a tad. I do wish they would have ended the movie differently but, I understand why it was done the way it was. |

| Elvis and Anabelle - Unrated |
"Romeo Romeo where for art thou Romeo?" Oh wait, that is classic literature. This was a mostly Gouda laden teeny bopper rom com. Admittedly I do like a little cheese with my movies. I also think that Blake Lively is very pretty. There were some good parts to this film. I thought that Joe Mantegna did a great job playing Charlie. I also got a kick out of the whole necrophiliac undertone of the story. Overall I would have to say that Elvis and Anabelle is another fairy tail wanna be that thrives on the teeny bopper obsession with romance and prince charming. |

| Cherry Crush - R |
After Jordan gets kicked out his prep school for taking nude "lipstick" photos of the girls in his class, he enroll in a new high school. Little does he know he will capture a new subject, or will she capture him? Cherry Crush is the story of love and betrayal and what we are willing to do when we become obsessed. Although the whole "they're in it together, only she's really in it alone" story line has been done before. It wasn't horrible, even though you could see it coming ten blocks away. I liked Nikki Reed as Shay and Johnathan Tucker has that geeky cute side that pulls you in. So, I was amused by this film to say the least. I have seen better but I have seen way worse recently. |

| Good Time Max - Unrated |
Good Time Max is the story of two brothers, Max and Adam. Both have genius intelligence. One is a doctor, the other a computer expert. Until drugs get involved and turn their lives around. It's a story about how we grow up and sometimes grow apart. The struggles we go through, and how no matter what, family is family. This film was written, directed, and starring James Franco. It was also dedicated to his own brother, making me think that perhaps in part he took from real life for this story. James Franco is an amazing and versatile actor, who has grown into his craft remarkably well. I really appreciated what he did for these two characters. I really enjoyed this movie. It did have a few slow moments, but it was still a moving story. I thought that James Franco and Matt Bell, who played Adam, had wonderful on screen chemistry. You really felt they were family, and could feel their pain and struggles. There were a few gross out moments, and some comic relief thrown in. All in all, I have to give Good Time Max a positive review. I was tired when I watched it, and it still managed to hold my attention. I would have to say it's worth the watch. |

| Baghead - R |
Four struggling actor friends seek shelter in a woodland cabin for the weekend to brain storm a movie. One girl dreams of a man with a bag over his head, and they decide to go with that idea. But, the man shows up to terrorize them... I am all for B Rates and Thrillers. I like to scream as well as the next person. There was just one problem, this movie was neither scary or entertaining. I could see how this would be good story, but it was just all over the place. Shot very shaky with people who need to go back to acting school. Besides, I saw that twist coming ten miles away, a red haring or something a little less predictable would have been better. At least The Blair Witch Project had people fooled for a little while. I did like the DVD cover, kind of a throw back to Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. Also, for the guys there was one boob shot. But, that hardly redeems this painful mess. A note to Jay and Mark Duplass who wrote and directed this movie. Next time you get another brilliant idea and want to make it into a movie...Don't. |

| Blindness - R |
Julianne Moore stars as the only woman who can see, when everyone else in the city, including her husband are struck with a sudden blindness epidemic and are forced into quarantine. I found this film to be particularly hard to sit through. I kept looking for excuses to get up, but I eventually got through it all. It was long, it seemed to drag on without ever really getting anywhere and I found the rape and abuse scenes difficult to take. I also didn't care for the way the film was shot, in flashes. I know that they were trying to get us to see what they saw, but it just seemed pointless after the first time. This story has been done a thousand times before, Dawn Of The Dead, Outbreak, 28 Days Later... The story it self was lacking. They never really explained anything about why or how this was happening. I was disappointed with the acting as well, from this cast of well known actors. Blindness in one word...excruciating. At least those who suffered this horrible fate would be spared the pain of having to actually see this film. |

| Virgin Territory - R |
"Not all virgins are angels and not all angels are virgins..." is the opening line of this film. This is a story of young adults in Florence, in the time of the plague. Sexually repressed virgins, who think of hardly anything else. Starring Hayden Christensen and The O.C.'s Mischa Barton. She is betrothed to one, and in love with another. He is wanted and trying to escape the sword. I am a sucker for romance, so I was semi entertained by Virgin Territory. It stuck me as a B rate cross between something like The Princess Bride and A Knight's Tale. Only not as good and with more nudity. It was a decent story, just seemed to fall a little flat in parts. If romance gets you, or you believe you can truly fall in love from just one kiss, you will get some amusement out of this film. |

| The Wackness - R |
New York City, Summer of 1994. Meet Luke Shapiro, a new High School graduate, the most unpopular of the popular kids, drug dealer. Through out the Summer, Luke learns about relationships. He learns about love, responsibility, friendship, and about what's truly important. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this film. Josh Peck was exceptional as Luke. He really pulled you in and made you relate with him, like a great lead character should. Ben Kingsley is an outstanding actor. His performance as Dr. Jeffrey Squires was no exception. I really appreciated the chemistry that he and Josh shared onscreen. You really believed that the Dr. and Luke were good friends and looking out for one and another. Olivia Thirlby was also good as Stephanie. I much preferred her and Josh Peck in this, than the travesty that was What Goes Up. I would have liked to see more of the quirky and lovable Jane Adams and the stunning Famke Janssen on screen, and I could have done without seeing Mary-Kate Olsen make out with anyone, but nothing is perfect. The Wackness is definitely worth checking out, it is a very well put together story. "It used to be you could lick a sheet of acid, hold up a band, fuck a whore in Times Square without anyone batting an eyelash. Now, one blunt, we're in the clink. This whole city's fucked!" |

| Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber - R |
This was the story of a snotty social climber, who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted. In this case Cinderella wanted a royal ball with Thor the love God. Bet you can't guess how this one ends.... Jennifer Love Hewitt looked fabulous as always, but much like any episode of Ghost Whisperer her acting left something to be desired. Luckily, her breasts were very prominent in this film. Oh you noticed I can't act, here look at these...Even I have to admit, they are a good distraction. Joey Lawrence was some what amusing as her gay escort best friend. Other than that, the cast was abysmal. We have all seen this story before, nothing new or original. Sort of cutesy but mostly boring. At best this movie is a mediocre cure for boredom. As a bonus, the only special features on the DVD are pictures of Jennifer Love Hewitt. I did find that kind of comical in a totally vainglorious way. |

| Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - PG |
While I was forced to watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, begrudgingly because I thought I would hate it... I got hooked. I had to watch them all and see what happened. So, I was very anxious to see what happened in this next chapter, since I haven't read the books. I do think to be fair to the characters coming of age, that this film should have at least had a PG 13 rating. Emma Watson is growing into a very beautiful woman. She also gave a very convincing performance in this one, that made me root for her and tugged at my heart strings a little. Rupert Grint is great comedy relief as Ron, I really adore that character. Daniel Radcliffe and Michael Gambon both gave unmitigated, steady performances, as usual. I love Alan Rickman. He has has that ultimate bad guy that you love to hate role down pat, since Die Hard. Professor Severus Snape is no exception. I would have liked to see more of Robbie Coltraine and Oliver and James Phelps in this one. I am nuts about Hagrid and those adorable Weasley twins. Otherwise, I can complain about this film. I thought it was excellent. I laughed and I cried. It was a well rounded emotional ride. If you have read the books, or are just a fan of the movies like I am, I am sure you will like this movie. |

| Mermaids - PG-13 |
I am flipping through the movie channels, and I come across Mermaids. Even though I have seen this movie about a thousand and three time, and I own the DVD, what do I do, I sit and watch it. I can't help it, I am weak. Mermaids is a stupendous film. It is a film that can be appreciated by all and should be embraced. What is not to love about this film? There is a noteworthy cast, giving memorable and fun performances. Who does love Cher, Winona Ryder, and a young and oh so adorable Christina Ricci? Bob Hoskins also gives a great soul to Lou and it has Jake flipping Ryan ( Michael Schoeffling ) in it! The story is a pleasant one. Coming of age, the loss of innocence, wanting something so bad you can taste it, afraid of loving too much and getting hurt, and the relationship between a mother and her daughters. This film also has a prodigious soundtrack. Peggy Lee, Jackie Wilson, Shelley Fabares, Betty Everrett, The Four Seasons, Doris Troy, Smokey Robinson, Leslie Gore, Santo & Johnny... I am beginning to sound like one of those Time Life CD collection advertisements, solid sounds of the 60s Groovy Baby. I am a sucker for the oldies. If you haven't seen Mermaids, watch it. You will laugh, you will cry and you just may fall in love. " Oh I am going to hell for sure. Here he is talking his poor dead mother, and I can't help wishing his hands were unbuttoning my dress." |

| Swimming Upstream - PG-13 |
Oh the things you will sit and watch when you can't sleep. ... Swimming Upstream is the coming of age tale of a 17 year old boy from Rhode Island. Star of the soccer team, Dead mother, alcoholic father, can't get his girlfriend to deflower him, and then he finds out he has Leukemia. Don't worry, it's gets all " After School Special " for a second, and then he pulls through. I like to watch B rate movies. Sometimes the B can stand for Brilliant or Bright, or the Best thing you have seen in awhile. Unfortunately for this waste of film, the B seemed to stand for Boring and just plain BAD. We all remember Ben Savage from Boy Meets World. He was sort of cute in that show, and he is sort of charming in this film. That is the half of a star. The rest of the cast, seriously needs to reconsider if acting is what they are best suited for. Michael Moriarty, who is usually a decent actor, bored me to tears as Morris Sr. He was so monotone and flat, that I thought I was back in Algebra II with that horrid teacher who liked to put kids to sleep, rather than teach. Yuck. I think half of the people on Flixster must be high. Some of the reviews on this page actually said that this was a good and sad movie. On what planet?! Oh and the page is completely wrong. Surprise, surprise. This movie was released in 2002, not to be confused with the movie from 2003, that has the exact same title, Swimming Upstream, about the Australian swimmer Tony Fingleton. THAT movie starred Geoffry Rush, David Hoflin, Deborah Kennedy, and Brittany Brynes. The only correct actor on this movies Flixster page was Ben Savage. He should be up there with Matt Czuchry, Michael Moriarty, and Kelly Rutheford. Seriously people, pull your heads out of your asses, before you try to wax intellectual on things. Not that is really matters, THIS Swimming Upstream is still a huge failure. |

| The Good Night - R |
What if we could control our dreams, and turn them into our fantasy escape world? How would that effect our reality? This film, written and directed by Gwyneth's brother Jake Paltrow, let's it's main character, Gary explore just that. But sooner or later, Gary starts to lose hold of what's real and what's a dream. Then he has to choose what is really important to him, his reality or his dream. I enjoyed this film. The story was unique which is always welcome. The cast of this movie was very admirable. Gwyneth Paltrow ( although I am not too thrilled with her as a brunette ), Danny Devito, Penelope Cruz, and Martin Freeman all gave favorable performances. The best part of this film for me was Simon Pegg. He is comic genius in my opinion. Even in a film that wasn't intended to be a comedy, he makes you laugh. "I'm going to go now, before I fuck your girlfriend" can only be delivered with a straight face by a few. He made the movie more enjoyable, definitely. My only complaint about The Good Night, besides Ms. Paltrow's hair, is that parts of it seemed to drag. There wasn't a constant good flow. That being said, I would have to give this film a positive review. It was entertaining, it makes you think, and it's got an original story. |

| Gran Torino - R |
When Clint Eastwood gets behind the camera, chances are I will like it. I loved Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil. So, when I finally sat to watch this film, I knew I would like it. I had no idea how brilliant it would be, or how much I would adore this movie, but I did. Clint was spot on as Walt Kawolski, a hard as nails, no holds barred, tell is like it is, hates everyone, fantastic prick. I am an avid fan of sarcasm. It has been my tried and true friend for many years, so I always appreciate when someone uses it well. Not everyone has that talent. Walt Kawalski sure did. The way he talked to absolutely everyone, family or stranger, had me in stitches. Bee Vang and Ahney Her gave marvelous performances as Thao and Sue. Their Chemistry with Mr. Eastwood and they way they bantered seemed very natural. I haven't seen a movie in a very long time that had me laughing so hard it hurt, and also moved me to tears. But this one did. I found myself deeply entwined with all the characters of the story. That is the sign of a great film. If you haven't seen Gran Torino, you need to. It's an excellent story about the way we interact with people and the relationships we have. Be prepared to laugh and have a few Kleenex handy. |
