I wasn't expecting this movie to bring the depth of narrative and character that it did -- I was impressed! Of course, there's the violence, but I thought it was well done and thought-provoking.
A wonderful revival of the classic franchise. Vibrant, fun to watch, and manages to stay true to the feel of the original while feeling new. Some of the old issues from TOS remain, and there is an almost comical amount of lens flare, but on the whole, it's tons of fun.
Inept in every way. This movie was so bad, I even found it difficult to enjoy on the level of "Wow, this movie is bad." Everyone in it is wooden & stilted, the writing is dreadful, and it's not even visually stimulating. Just truly awful - though I couldn't believe it until I saw it.
The performances are AMAZING. On the whole, I really liked this one. Though there was a casting surprise or two (James Carville, what?). The one detractor for me is the narration which, on occasion, tells you what's happening about 25 seconds before it happens (even when the film has been telegraphing that to you for ten minutes anyhow). Looks great, well written, and the cast is impressive.
Yet more great Futurama, though I didn't feel this one was quite as strong as some of the prior features. Still, it was great fun to watch, and always nice when several of your nerd identities come together in the same place. I appreciated the Futurama treatment of epic fantasy tropes, and was pleased to see that they continued the great trend of real character development.
Very entertaining! Well, written and very funny. One of the things I love most about both this film and Shaun of the Dead is that it's impeccably written; every little detail that's introduced comes into play again later, and when the film starts coming together everything clicks. It's just as much a smartly written spoof on every cop film you've ever seen as it is a film that stands on its own, and the "mystery" in the plot is genuinely compelling.
Fun to watch - plenty of eye candy, flashy, and a well-orchestrated homage to the cartoon in live action form. I did find some of the visual devices felt over-done at times. Performances generally good, though nothing super-special. I did like it more than I like the cartoon, so good job on that Wachowskis!
Great combination of sweet, goofy, and hilarious. It manages to keep surprising you even while adhereing to the familiar romantic comedy/finding oneself structure it relies on. Segal is great - the Dracula musical payoff is not to be missed. So many great little moments! (I laughed my "sad-laugh" all the way through.)
Touching and funny -- Will Ferrell gracefully balances the dramatic with the comedic. With plenty of jokes for literature nerds; we could use more smart comedies like this one! Excellent cast. The film even improves on a second viewing.
