This is a technicolour classic that stands up well on the big screen after its recent restoration, and whilst the quality of the audio and special effects may still pale in comparison to the standard of modern films, the storyline, adapted from a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, is far superior to most.

Cameron's much hyped SF extravaganza might justifiably be able to claim to have redefined 3D performance capture cinema, but certainly not the medium as a whole, and whilst the film is truly spectacular in places, the technology is often overstretched, as is the 'Dances with Aliens' storyline.
