James Cameron"s "Avatar" is a phenomenal achievement, a gorgeous and truly breathtaking sci-fi epic. The captivating tale of the Na'vi a peaceful alien race of blue-skinned 12 foot tall giants with golden eyes who's planet Pandora is the only known source of a very special mineral that can save the Earth. Now the Na'vi must fight for their survival against Earth's aerial hi-tech armies of Marines who will stop at nothing to possess the mineral. A stunning array of technical wizardry and innovation by Cameron and his team who invented a new revolutionary breakthrough 3D-process for this epic that has to be seen to be believed. The Amazing CGI visual effects are peerless. The entire cast is superb with Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana, Michelle Rodriquez and Stephen Lang the standouts. A lush and beautiful musical score by james Horner, by all means see this film in ( 3D Imax) to fully appreciate James Cameron's technical marvel and the best film of 2009. Highly Recommended.

Hey, you should really see the scariest movie ever made! NOT! Avoid like you'd avoid an aroused George Michael in the restroom...
    Paranormal Activity Paranormal Activity
    by Jani
"You promised me you wouldn't get a fucking Ouija board!
    - No, I promised I wouldn't go buy Ouija board. I borrowed one."

So this movie has been given the biggest hype this year. Already released back in '07, 'Paranormal Activity' was re-released again and was a huge hit. It cost only 15000 but has made over 100 million USD's, making it one of the most profitable movies ever made.

Is it any good then? 'Paranormal Activity' reminds me of 'Blair Witch Project', which everyone of you should at least heard of at some point. 'BWP' had a scarier story, with the woods as the evil thingy. 'PA' steals a lot from the later, with its documentary style and "authentic" videos. Oh yeah, the answer to the question is... This movie sucks ass.

A 30 something couple are being harassed by some scary demon. They try to get an exorcist but he's conveniently on vacation. Do they still stay in the house? Of course! So what's the scary stuff here then? Watching an Ouija board moving and being burned? Footprints on the floor? Watching the hysteric woman stand for hours still at night watching her husband? Slaming doors? All clichés...

This film is being advertised as the scariest film ever made, with people crying and leaving the theater. What the fuck is wrong with you!? Scary in what way? I was scared only because of one thing, and that being the fact that I got robbed by the theatre and didn't know how to get my euros back...

Sure, believe the hype and go see the "scariest" film ever made. Spend 90 minutes in a dark theatre and understand that you could do better things instead. Fuck...

A controversial love story which is well acted and told in great sequence. What starts out as an unconventional tale of love escalates into an emotionally drawn journey between the unlikely pair.

This is a film that certainly makes an emotional impact, my only critism, (although a very small one) would be the make up for the aging process, which didn?t seem as realistic as it could have.

A well acted part by David Kross.

La Double Vie de Véronique (The Double Life of Veronique) La Double Vie de Véronique (The Double Life of Veronique)
    by Arianeta
The Double Life of Véronique remains one of his most beloved and celebrated works from the late, great Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski. It won the Best Actress gong at Cannes for Irène Jacob's delectable dual performance as two identical-looking women. Veronique and Veronika were born on the same day in different countries. . Though unknown to each other, the two women share an enigmatic, purely emotional bond. They are identical twins, they have much the same upbringing, and they seem somehow aware of the other's existence. Veronique is a professional singer, and Veronika is a talented amateur who, on a whim, tries out for an operetta and gets the part. If something bad happens to one of them, the other somehow realizes this and narrowly avoids the same fate.
The film is a ravishing, mysterious rumination on identity, love, and human intuition and a perfect example of a situation where a film doesn't have to make sense to be a compelling and wonderful film experience. Kieslowski focus in gorgeous reflections, colours, and movements. Aided by Slawomir Idziak's shimmering cinematography and Zbigniew Preisner's haunting, operatic score, Kieslowski creates one of cinema's most purely metaphysical works. The Double Life of Veronique is an unforgettable movie experience of feeling. A real masterpiece.

    Eden Lake Eden Lake
    by Lady
Eden Lake is just one of many Horrors brought out with terrorising teens and yet for me this one seemed so much more realistic, perhaps because it was English made and that makes me, as an English woman relate, but hopefully also for realistic acting and disturbingly natural violence and menace.

Kelly Reilly played an interesting role in this and it was good to see Thomas Turgoose take a step back here and not take the limelight after his first two successes with Shane Meadows. Tense and shockingly not far fetched, I particularly like the way this film ended, it stayed with the realistic feel and never took on the clichés so many Horror films do.

This is a odd film. It is about this man who's car breaks down in a small town in the state of Arizona. He is stuck in this town while waiting for his car to get fixed. Of course he comes across many odd characters that get him into trouble. The story itself is solid and the film has a great cast. All the characters are odd. But director Oliver Stone seems to make them work for this type of film. I was sort of on the bubble about this movie at the end. It was good but also confusing at times. I most likely will have to watch it again some time. But for now I would say it is worth a one time watch.

The girls and I went to see this and thoroughly enjoyed this humorous romance with a little suspense thrown in. It was clean and cute with a happy ending and I love Hugh Grant! He makes me laugh! SJP was good in her role as well and they made a good team. Sam Elliott and Mary Steenburgen were great also and added a lot to the film. I mean, it wasn't brain surgery...but that's not what I wanted to see. I wanted a smart, cute, fun and funny movie with fun people and that's what I got :)

Born on the Fourth of July Born on the Fourth of July
    by Mesh
Born on the fourth of july tells you the real life story of Ron Kovic a Vietnamese veteran that got injured and lost both of his leg during the war. The movie starts by showing his early life, his ambitious achievements, his proud family - then it goes to Vietnam; the horrid things they did there and the post life after the war. The movie is long, but it's bearable in some way. Depressing obviously, honest and brutal; Oliver Stone capture the pain and lost during this time brilliantly, or maybe i need to give the 4 star to the main actor; Tom Cruise?

Tom Cruise is still one of my fav actor, this guy knows how to act and delivered some great memorable movies through out his filmography, and to see him in one of his earlier career is awesome! He was nominated for Oscar, and i am certain he should have won. Decent supporting actors too.

    8/10.

"Schock" is the last movie of Mario Bava. It is an entertaining and professionally made ‘Haunted House' chiller, containing multiple other horror elements Great camera-work of the house's interior and surrounding features adds to this slickly made feature. The visuals are definitely its strongest part and that also goes for the well-crafted climax and the acting is above average.
The story might be very simplistic but you can't deny the professional nature of the production. It's filled with a great blend of atmosphere.
A worthy final installment to a brilliant career.

    Avatar Avatar
    by Serdar
Like them or not, Cameron has made some of the groundbreaking movies of the popular cinema and Avatar is one of them now. Seeing it in Imax-3D was one of the most amazing cinematic experiences I've ever had.

Story was better than I expected but was not as perfect as the visuals. The movie is openly anti-war and anti-imperialist but the cliche characters and some corny lines lower the impact of the message. Nevertheless you gotta admire the man to do such a big movie with that kind of message and don't bitch about the ending which was a bit over the top, I guess when you work with that kind of budget, you have to give the audience what they want.

At the end, the movie works on every level, better on some than others, and worths every penny spent to make it and worths the 15 bucks I spent on it.

Solid, thoughtful fantasy adventure concerned with the battle to maintain free will, when free will is no less than the soul itself. Dakota Blue Richards is perfect in the lead role while Nicole Kidman displays just the right amount of rage threatening to betray her otherwise icily elegant exterior. Great adventure with an important moral.

You have probably already heard that this is a groundbreaking film and will revolutionize the way future films are made, this is not an exaggeration. This creates a world that is so unique and interesting that you actually want to take a class into it.
Almost everything can be accredited to James Cameron's directing talent from the superb acting to the exhilarating action and war scenes. The acting by the entire cast was very good, Zoe Saldana gives an emotionally spectacular performance ever though you never see her in person.
The story is a pastiche of every film depicting colonialism from Dances with Wolves to Last Samurai but the setting and characters gives a completely new experience. I think the fact that the story isn't very complex didn't distract from the films amazing effects giving a more incredible viewing experience. And even though the messages of anti globalism can be very ham-fisted and some dialogue was just off ("preemptive strike", "Acts of Terror"), this is a very exciting experience.
