My old favorite quote won't fit up there so here it is!!
"All that glitters is not gold. If the b*tch look too good to be true, she probably is. OK. If you meet a girl whose earrings match her necklace, match her bracelet, match her ring, match her nipple-piercing, match her belly button ring, and her ankle bracelet, and her toe ring, and her toe-nails match her fingernails and her fingernails aren't acrylic and the b*tch grew them ALL herself and she got pretty legs and the b*tch ain't never skinned her knees or got a mosquito bite ain't got no cellulite or no varicose veins and her ass is tight and her t*tties is perky and they're both the same size and they look up atcha and she got a nice neck with no fat around it and she don't sweat too much and her breath smells good and her teeth are all white and straight and her lipstick is on good and her eye make-up is on good and the b*tch ain't got no wax in her ears and you feel her hair and it's long down her back and she ain't got no tracks in her hair or nothin' like that, you better lift that b*tches skirt up 'cause her d*ck is probably bigger than yours. - Luenell from Katt Williams: American Hustle (2007) Another favorite quote of mine was lifted from Buddism and reminds us of the power of now is: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." - Oogway from Kung Fu Panda (2008) I love movies and music. When they are put together, I am even more excited. I love soundtracks especially when they help the movie capture a certain point in time or reinforce a movie's emotional elements. Also, I really like concert films. Movies have helped me better relate to the music of the past. You can view my widget below to see some of my favorite musical movies. Some are actual films, some concerts and some are concerts of another kind. However, each of these films have a musical element or rhythm to them. Have a look around my profile and, maybe, you can find a film that you want to see. I heard a quote from the musical and philosophical legend, John Lennon, who said, "The time you enjoyed wasting wasn't wasted." So going to movies, going to concerts or playing on Flixster isn't wasted time if it makes you smile and enjoy your time on this planet. Let's share some good times. Peace. When all else fails...DANCE...
I really loved the author Hunter S. Thompson and I was so happy that director Terry Gilliam was the man who made "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Much kudos to him and the entire cast (particularly Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro). I hope that Hunter's "The Rum Diaries" gets made into a film. A few years ago, I heard rumor that Del Toro was working on getting this book made into a film. I haven't heard anything about it since then. One of my favorite scenes from the movie Fargo. I love how this character describes Steve Buscemi. The GROOVY man himself. Bruce Campbell was really nice both times I had a chance to meet him. I love his comic timing!! Recently, I saw "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Hunter S. Thompson" which I thought was exceptional. As you may (or may not) know, I am a huge fan of Hunter and his works. I found this clip of Johnny Depp (who is also narrating in "Gonzo") who is reading a letter he received from Hunter before his work began on that amazing film version by Terry Gilliam of Hunter's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I added it for my amusement as well as yours. ENJOY... Now, another piece of mail from Hunter to Johnny... One more piece of Johnny's mail from Dr. Thompson!! OK - so the time has come to take a stand. Here's mine. I don't like "blocking' people but I get a load of ridiculous messages. So... If you send me a review of every movie you've ever seen as a "recommendation" - I will block you. If you send me any SPAM, I will block you. I do NOT want to see your webcam and you will be reported!! If you send me a quiz that has nothing to do with movies, I MAY block you. If you include me in a conversation that has nothing whatsoever to do with movies, I will block you. I don't get to spend a lot of time in my movie world here at Flixster. But I do like to have conversations with people about movies. I am searching for friends who like MOVIES. I am NOT searching for a date, garbage OR chain mail. I don't want to go to any other site to look at your pictures. I don't wish to take a quiz about YOU 'cause I only know YOU from Flixster. I hope you understand what I am talking about 'cause if you don't...I will block you. Keep it in the movie world, folks, and we'll get along nicely. Now get off your computer and go see a flick. Thank you and CHEERS!!! ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Rest in peace Paul Newman, Issac Hayes, Bernie Mac, George Carlin and Heath Ledger! (a lot of great actors lost so far in '08) |

Gumby Dharma

An amazing view into the life of the creator of Gumby and Pokey. I never knew about this man, Art Clokey. His life is an incredible story filled with serious sadness and beautiful spirituality. We see his life from the beginning and hear from those inspired by his work. His creations even help with narration so it has lots of humor as well. It has a short running time but this film (released in 2006) enscapsulates Clokey's enitire life, his journeys and all his films. A great gem found on cable telebision.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

OMG. Thank you Terry Gilliam for your excellent creation. Thanks to Hunter S. Thompson, Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro for making this a trip each and every time I watch this. Fantastic!! I love this film so much. Johnny Depp spent time with Hunter and it shows on the screen. The film captures the 1970s and Hunter's personality quite well. It also delves into the drug fueled brain and visuals that Thompson's book described. Usually when I read the book and then see the film, the film disappoints. Not this one. I give credit to all who made this film for its rich details. There are lots of cameos including a brief one of Hunter himself. Benicio Del Toro was also excellent as Hunter's attorney, Gonzo. He put on some weight for this and did some a great job in acting really high on a smorgasboard of drugs. Every time I see this, I notice something I have seen before. It was fun but it also had some insight into the "American Dream." I miss you Hunter. The world was a better place when you were alive. However, I believe the man couldn't stand what the world had become and I don't blame him for it.

Dazed and Confused
R
Another classic stoner flick, this one has a certain place in time for the director, Richard Linklater. I heard this film is an ode to his school days (or daze as the case may be). I love all these actors. I really enjoyed Rory Cochrane. I freaked when I learned he was wearing a wig for the entire film. There are even actors that I adore who, I believe, made only this film. Others we have seen their careers skyrocket!! Love Matthew, Mila, Jason and the director for capturing a late '70s ambiance. Love the music and the herb.

Almost Famous
R
Loved the music as much as I loved the story and the actors. Cameron Crowe is one of my all time favorite writer/directors because he always incorporates great music into his stories. Wish I lived his life sometimes. Especially his rockin' younger days.
4.
High Fidelity
R
Loved the music discussions between the characters. Cusak and his "staff" had classic top 5 lists. Jack Black was brilliant also. Catherine Zeta was quite sexy in this one. Loved her torn blue jeans.

Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny
R
The D. What can I say, it was awesome. I love the duo and their songs. Go see this if you love rock. Dio kicks ass too.

Party Monster
R
Another crazy tale that could only be as twisted as reality can be. I wish they would have shot more scenes during the events that the Club Kids had put on. Love the "Money, Success, Fame, Glamour" scene!! Much praise to this perfect cast. If you watch the documentary that this film is based on, you will notice that it is practically word for word with the actual Club Kids. Marilyn Manson is exceptionally warped in this one. Just like "Alpha Dog," another senseless crime by some seriously tweeked out humans. Good film though.

The Reaping
by MarkAn atmospheric chiller with great visual effects and sound acting.
A bit too religious in parts for my taste, so the plagues were a bit lost on me, although i had enough knowledge to get around the plot.
Not as clever as it thinks though and a little predictable at the end.
For me, this knocks the rating down a peg.Just my opinion, but worth a watch.

Black Christmas
by MarkNot as bad as i expected, not the best of remakes at all but a no brainer of a gore movie with all the right ingredients, blood, pretty girls and demented killers.
If you want a quality modern slasher, then watch Rob Zombies remake of Halloween. If you want mindless fun horror for 80 mins, then watch this.Hey, you should really see this if you don't want to see a too clever horror movie and like gore.

Quarantine
by SpencerHonestly this is the mother of all re-makes. This is not only in my top ten horror films of the new millennium. but it is also a freakin re-make!!! I tried to avoid this movie at all costs because I am a HUUUUGE fan of [REC] and I think that that is not only tied for best horror film of new millennium but also I'd say in top ten of all time but I was finally dragged by my almost as horror obsessed friend. I am soooooooooo glad that he persuaded me to go because it not only surpassed my expectations but I would say that this is THE best re-make of all time thinking just off the top of my head.
Hey, you should really see this! Scary as hell and as soon as you think its over .... BAM!! next scare. Gotta love it when things you think are gonna blow hard turn out to be real hidden gems.

Chaos
by MarkA poor blatant rip off of Wes Cravens Last House On The Left.
At the beginning the film gives you a warning of its graphic nature but tries to justify it by saying that if you watch you just might save your or your childs life.
Basically its about some criminals on the run hiding out in the woods who ensnare two teenagers who have been duped by the gang leaders son into following him to score some ecstasy.
What follows is the gang sexually torturing the girls and then pursuing them when they try to escape, culminating in a violent conclusion at the home of one of the girls parents.
Its a poorly acted movie that tries to take inspiration from 70's grindhouse cinema but alas only copies it.Just my opinion.

Gone Baby Gone
by GaryOutstanding directorial debut from Ben Affleck with little bro Casey as a chilling lead in this tight mystery. A great script full of clever twists is only one of several highlights on display here. The morally ambiguous ending is brilliant and will leave you pondering for days afterward. This is classic storytelling the way it should be. Ben, you are now well on the road to redeeming yourself. Well done.
Loved it! I know many of you have already caught this, but those still waiting.... hesitate no longer. Brilliant!

Death Race
by SpencerI'm sorry if you disagree with me giving this movie an 8 but I went in to it wanting a no brains required ass kicking action flick and expecting no link to the original Death Race 2000 (made in 1976 w/ David Carradine and Sly Stallone) and that is exactly what I got. While Paul W.S. Anderson is neither a Wes Anderson nor a Paul Thomas Anderson in terms of his writing ability the man knows his action!!! Holy Crap I have not been as into an action flick as I was with this one. The fact that Jason Statham was kicking MAJOR ass and takin names, the dialogue was pretty funny at times, and I thought the story line was pretty good for what the movie was.
All in all don't go into this expecting anything deep, just prepare yourself to get your shit rocked!Hey, you should really see this! One of the best action films to come out in the new millennium!

Second Hand Wedding
by GaryIt seems this little gem of a movie is fairly unknown outside of New Zealand, but if you can track it down, it's a hilarious slice of kiwiana. Very funny with its typical self depricating humour and a big slice of family heart. I just caught this on R4 DVD and hope it gets the recognition it deserves. Also New Zealanders will recognise heaps of faces from national TV shows, which is kinda fun. A genuine Indie treat!
None of you have rated this great little New Zealand movie, so let me be the first to emphasise how hilarious it is! Good luck tracking down this gem!!
