| Doubt - PG-13 | Wonderfully SIMPLE plot. Excellent character development through different points-of-view. Thoroughly impressive performances by the ENTIRE cast. | February 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Last Chance Harvey - PG-13 |
Of course, I stereotyped a little & thought: "It's Dustin Hoffman, you can't go wrong." Overkill on the klutzy, loser dad characterization--yes, we got it after the 1st 5 fumbles, thanks! Extremely cliche & predictable. I have to admire the somewhat odd-couple pairing between Hoffman & Thompson. Thompson's frankness throughout the film is intoxicating. I don't mind when Lapaine is on-screen--YUM!
I would've liked it more if it were a bit MORE original. The casting is incomparable, too bad the script was unbearable. Probably something you've read before, but: Last Chance Harvey? I gave it one, & it blew it. Perhaps cliche, but so was the movie:P (Perhaps really wasn't fair that I saw Slumdog the day before.) |

| Slumdog Millionaire - R |
Was really a pleasant surprise, just a "different" kinda plot & not-so-mainstream appeal. Incredibly real depiction of third world conditions. Wonderful symbolism through bright colors & costumes. Brilliantly edited & produced! Dubbing just takes SOOO much away from foreign films. I am ALL about subtitles. However, if you are not:
minimal subtitles=followable; flashbacks=transition nicely; kid actors=who CAN act; love story=non-squishy!!!; would watch=over & over again:D |

| Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) - R | Oh who doesn't adore Tautou & her pixie haircut? Cute, quirky, intelligent. Casting is perfect. Cinematography is unique. Lovable characters. Multiple storylines that are EASY to follow. As adorable as this is, it's not afraid to get a li'l raunchy! Quite possibly, every aspect I would want covered in a film. | September 11, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Saw - R |
Was interested in watching this film based on the trailers. Definitely originally storyline. But not impressed, thrilled OR terrified. I feel cheated by all the mind games. Sad, Elwes is an all-time fave... & a hottie:( If you HAVE to watch a "Saw" film... watch this one--don't even bother with the others. |

| The House Bunny - PG-13 | September 10, 2008 | N/A | ||||
| Saw II - R | Majority of all the new thrillers feel the need to trick you, or psyche you out. The concept was unique. Just found all the misleads in the storyline annoying. Very disappointing, wish it could thrill me! | September 10, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Titanic - PG-13 | Cameron has wasted DiCaprio & Winslet's talent. What terrible dialogue! Nucci's Italian accent was horrendous. I think the only character who didn't annoy me--at any point--was Hill's Captain Smith... he was perfect. I overrated it a little bit based on the attention to detail of the boat & the costuming. The depiction of the actual disaster was sooo much better than the crap love story. | September 10, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Being John Malkovich - R | Kooky. Imaginative. Yes, it's possible for Cameron Diaz to be a lesbian & look like crap. You get hooked on Cusack's neuroticism throughout. This film tests ALL the players' acting chops. Too much fun:D | September 6, 2008 | N/A | |||
| A Walk to Remember - PG | Perfect if you're into 2-hour long Hallmark commercials... uh, yeah NOT ME! I will say this, at least it's a step UP from that darned Notebook movie. & who doesn't love an awkward, homely, misfitting Mandy Moore? | September 6, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Big Lebowski - R | September 6, 2008 | N/A | ||||
| Moulin Rouge! - PG-13 | Who knew McGregor could sing the balls off any of the entire cast?!?! Luhrmann again, at times, just picks some loud, pounding music. Wonderful on-screen chemistry between Kidman & McGregor. Leguizamo is adorable. I do love it, but seems Luhrmann's goal is to be more over-the-top than the previous film. For me, Strictly Ballroom still trumps both M.R. & R+J. | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Notebook - PG-13 | Cheesy & predictable. At least Gosling & McAdams make a gorgeous couple... oh wait, they dated fo' real? I think Garner was the most credible character in this one. | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Romeo + Juliet - PG-13 | Saw it 2 times in the theater... 10 times at the dollar show. DiCaprio & Danes are 2 of my all-time faves, was nice to see them on-screen together. I story moves well & it's easy to keep up--even if you aren't brushed up on your Shakespeare. TONS of symbolism. Great use of color. The soundtrack is a little pounding at times, but appropriate nonetheless. I love it, but I think I like Strictly Ballroom better. | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Ever After - A Cinderella Story - PG-13 | A unique take on the classic fairy tale. I don't really care for Barrymore's accent whatever it's supposed to be. Scott is entrancing, altho' I could've done without the codpiece--at least he has nice legs. Huston is brilliant, you just love to hate her. The costuming is imaginative. It's kinda nice to be rooting for the pretty girl who's not "drop dead" for once. Barrymore's talking out the side of her mouth is just as adorable as it was in E.T. Every time it's on network television I can't stop watching. | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| The Phantom of the Opera - PG-13 | That damn Gerry Butler... I don't know what all the hype is about him. Sure he looks good, but can neither act nor sing. I was very disappointed when Rossum didn't hit all the classic Sarah Brightman runs. & I really wish Driver could sing, her portrayal of Carlotta was fabulous but the lip syncing was horrendous. Another failure of the modern musical. Wilson is gorgeous, & probably the only castmember with Broadway caliber singing chops! | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| 300 - R | Tons of testosterone. Could've done without the constant slo-mo. It was a lot more action than script; the less Butler talking, the better. Not much character building at all. Kudos to the period costuming & unique camera angles. Stays pretty true to the novel. Gotta love the blood & body parts flying all over the place! | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Dumb and Dumber - PG-13 | The soundtrack is friggin' awesome. I'm all the more "dumberer" for paying attention to any of the rest of it. | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Heathers - R | One of my very first lessons in symbolism. The colors & costuming were brilliant. Dark & hilarious. You get to know every-single character. Depiction & casting are impeccable. Some of the most classic one-liners ever. & who doesn't love a Ryder narrative? If you haven't seen it yet, "What is your damage, Heather?" | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Party Girl - R | Quirky cult classic. If you're a fashion buff, you'll want ALL of Posey's outfits--even down to her wEiRD tights. Her bizarre behavior keeps you reeled in. Townsend is simply a delicious man. The sountrack is shake-yo-booty material. The whole thing makes me wanna be a librarian. "Can I have a falafel with hot sauce, a side order of baba ganouj & a seltzer please?" | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Strictly Ballroom - PG | Amazing character development. The film keeps you rooting for "ugly duckling" Morice. I know nothing about competitive ballroom dancing, but the costuming & colors were captivating & appropriate throughout. You'd never believe it was Luhrmann's first film. BRILLIANT! | September 5, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Knocked Up - R | Not as good as I thought it was going to be. Most of the humor was juvenile. Was the sex scene kinda "vomitous"? I like the odd couple concept. But the movie dragged... thank GAWD Heigl is hot! | September 4, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Mamma Mia! - PG-13 | Okay, so MAMMA MIA made me go to this movie with her. The doe-eyed Seyfried is the main reason you want to keep watching; just a gorgeous, uber-talented girl. I guess Firth & Cooper are pretty easy on the eyes as well. The humor was mediocre & predictable at best. Streep's singing chops have gotten better. I wouldn't kick Brosnan outta bed, but he can't sing for $?@*. I would've learned better choreography from a Barney video. Streep, Walters & Baranski make the film seem like a menopause festival. For some-odd reason it seems like the musicals of today lack the "magic" the old 50s & 60s musicals had/have. Overall, not super-impressed. Just a whole bunch of beautiful people getting together in a beautiful setting to make a beautiful mess! I was expecting more from this star-studded cast. Perhaps the choreography & costuming during the credits was the only bonus? If that. | September 4, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Along Came Polly - PG-13 | Same old type-cast for Stiller... & Aniston too! The risk analyst was a cute twist. Not impressed with the ferret. Hoffman tries so hard it's terrible. Overall humor was more disgusting than funny. Bonus? Azaria's buff bod. | September 4, 2008 | N/A | |||
| Forever Young - PG | Every-single cliche in the book; name it, it's in this movie. Shame on me for seeing this in the theater... shame on me MORE for remembering I did. | September 4, 2008 | N/A |
