Waste of money. Bad writing. Corny narration. Way too gory. The very last shot in the movie of Morgan Freeman saying that word and being freezeframed may just go down as the worst career decision he has ever made in his life. He's way better than to do something that cheap and tasteless. One positive note: Interesting premise -- that is all that was good about it, though (besides Angelina's acting, which was fabulous, and I don't even like her personally... the homewrecker).
I don't know if I could recommend watching this movie. It's like watching The Killing Fields. It's historic in its content but depressing as hell. China was NOT a nice place during the 1970s. It treated its citizens like CRAP. It's a real wakeup call, this movie.
This movie is about a girl I grew up with, Linn Yann! I remember being interviewed on the news about it. I was young, at least a couple of years younger than the year of the movie's release.
Wow. Portrays the Hasidic world in Jerusalem very accurately. It's touching, funny, bitter, and you get a real education (if you don't know a lot already about the Hasidic or Orthodox Jewish lifestyle).
