| Transsiberian - R | Taut triller that kept shocking and surprising me with plot twists. I was tense the whole movie. Not exactly uplifting for the soul, but a very good movie | November 4, 2009 | N/A | |||

| Duplicity - PG-13 | Lots of twists and turns in this movie - you're just not sure if either of the two characters are trustworthy throughout. I had an inkling about the denouement from the beginning but as the movie went on it led me further and further away from the truth before bringing me right back. A better movie to watch at home than in the theater as it helps to be able to hit pause and talk about what just happened so that you don't lose the plot. | September 19, 2009 | N/A | |||
| State of Play - PG-13 | What a fun movie. A thriller that starts strong with a dramatic murder and takes you through lots of twists and turns as you get to the truth about what happened. Loaded cast. | September 19, 2009 | N/A | |||

| District 9 - R | This was a great action movie with a political/humanitarian overlay. Edmund Burke said "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Perhaps the moral of this story is that all that is necessary is for good men to follow orders. The setting of this movie in Jo'burg is pretty appropriate. Not a lot of subtlety of shading to the "bad guys" but the hero of the movie, Wikus van de Merwe, is one of the most fun characters of the year, a cheerful, kind bigoted bureaucrat who goes about his horrific job with good humor until circumstances turn him into a killing machine | September 2, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Monsters vs. Aliens - PG | pay close attention to catch all the jokes as asides | August 22, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Changeling - R | Gripping movie that makes you get very angry at the LAPDs handling of the missing boy and his wife. | August 14, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Star Trek - PG-13 |
Waiting for DVD, sadly. Haven't seen a movie in so long - and am feeling it most with star trek. UPDATE: Saw this in theatre - only two months late! First movie date with Ranee in 6+ months. It lived up to expectations. Awesome action scenes, and nice plot that gives them a clean slate for sequels. Lt. Uhuru is really hot. JJ Abrahms gives cameos to a few TV stars also - spotted Dr Cameron from House as Jim Kirk's mom. |

| The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - PG-13 | This was a lovely, sad movie. The narrative kept me compelled and engaged despite it being almost three hours long. | July 21, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Body of Lies - R | This was gripping from the get go. I don't know why I still don't like Leo as he turns in a great performance here, as he usually does, as an increasingly disillusioned CIA wunderkind. Mark Strong's Hani, chief of Jordanian intelligence, steals the show as an arabian James Bond in the Roger Moore mold. Russel Crowe is fat. | July 15, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Burn After Reading - R | Good movie but the ending left me empty. Coen brothers do a great job of making movies about truly random but believable people. Lots of thoroughly unlikeable characters that you still end up caring about make lots of bad decisions punctuated by unexpected scenes of extreme violence | July 15, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Young at Heart (Young@Heart) - PG | After hearing repeatedly how inspiration, funny and moving this movie was I think my expectations were too high. It was alright. The chorus music directory seemed like a real tyrant | June 25, 2009 | N/A | |||

| Slumdog Millionaire - R |
Remind me not to be poor in India. It seems like a pretty bad life. Notwithstanding, Jamal and love eventually triumph over adversity. ps - who knew that Jack Hobbs scored so many first class centuries? That guys was an old school G. |

| Taken - PG-13 |
I saw this on a plane. It's pretty much the only way I get to see movies anymore. Taken is basically Die Hard in Paris, substituting human traffickers for terrorists. Hence its awesomeness |

| Gran Torino - R |
Terrific movie. Clint Eastwood is awesome as a misanthrope, not a racist. He is equal opportunity with his disgust. Much like Dirty Harry, Clint's Walt Kowalski lives in a world where a really big gun can solve most problems. But there is a bit more nuance about how the gun gets used this time |

| Australia - PG-13 |
Long and simple story but the acting and the gorgeous Aussie outback scenery carries it. Hugh Jackman should be James Bond - he looked very Bondesque in the white dinner jacket in the Ball scene |
