Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain) (2001,  R)
Amelie (Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain)
This has got to be one of the quirkiest, most intelligently told love stories of all time. I went to see it thrice at the cinema and cannot even count the number of times I've watched it on dvd. Let's put it this way, if it weren't for the fact that the movie's in french, I'd probably be able to do all the dialogue by now!
2
Chocolat (2000,  PG-13)
Chocolat
The best thing about this movie is undoubtedly the mouthwatering chocolate that features throughout! As a bonus there are also fabulous performances by Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche, Alfred Molina, Lena Olin, Judi Dench and Carrie Ann Moss.

Closer
Brilliant! Devastating! Made me wish I was on Prozac by the end or at least buried head first in a large tub of ice cream...
4
The Big Blue (Le Grand bleu) (1988,  R)
The Big Blue (Le Grand bleu)
I found this movie so haunting! Not sure if it was the incredible scenes with the dolphins or the incredible scenes with Jean Marc Barr...That man's beautiful! The story was also rather moving I thought.
5
24 Hour Party People (2002,  R)
24 Hour Party People
One of my all time favourites. About the late, great Ian Curtis of Joy Division and Shaun Ryder of the Happy Mondays. All of those who grew up in the eighties and love alternative music will appreciate this movie!

24
House of Flying Daggers (Shi mian mai fu) (2004,  PG-13)
25
Darkness (2004,  PG-13)
Darkness
One of the scariest horrors I've seen so far! The way it's filmed incorporating scenes of continuous rain creates a sense of claustrophobia throughout the movie that lends itself to the mood of intense anxiety engendered by the film. Do NOT watch this movie on your own!
26
28 Days Later (2003,  R)
28 Days Later
I'm not usually bothered by zombie movies, but this one was just so well done, it had me screaming my heart out most of the time! The actors are not that well known but they are all extremely watchable - especially Cillian Murphy :)

The Others (2001,  PG-13)

K-PAX (2001,  PG-13)
K-PAX
The thing I liked the most about this movie is that I watched it expecting a straightforward sci-fi story, but it turned out to be so much more than that. This really is one of my all time favourite movies. Kevin Spacey is an icon!

My second favourite Coen brothers movie! Loved it! Nicholas Cage, John Goodman and Holly Hunter are superb in their roles! The story itself is pretty entertaining and the dialogue (as with all Coen bros films) is excellent.
49
Dodgeball - A True Underdog Story (2004,  PG-13)
50
Zoolander (2001,  PG-13)
51
Superstar (1999,  PG-13)
Superstar
Absolutely hysterical! I actually own this one. Mary Catherine Gallagher is one of my favourite Molly Shannon characters of all time. Needless to say, Will Ferrell is also completely hilarious as the high school heart-throb with all the coolest dance moves! I'll admit that you probably have to be a SNL fan to really love this one, but even if you're not, I'll be surprised if it doesn't have you laughing most of the time.
52
Mystery Men (1999,  PG-13)
53
Best in Show (2000,  PG-13)
Best in Show
One of the funniest comedies ever!! It's a mockumentary about people who enter their dogs in shows and the characters are all insanely funny. I thought Parker Posey and Eugene Levy's characters were especially good.

I LOVE this movie!! Judi Dench and Maggie Smith are spectacular. If you are into classical music, it's an absolute must see. The violin pieces played by Daniel Bruhl are breathtaking.
59
Dancer in the Dark (2000,  R)
Dancer in the Dark
A "musical" with a difference! A harrowing drama about a woman's struggle with a debilitating illness. I was completely blown away by Bjork's performance!
60
A Night at the Roxbury (1998,  PG-13)
A Night at the Roxbury
Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan and Molly Shannon are insanely funny in this movie! I still crack up each time I hear "What is Love" by Haddaway!
61
Waking Life (2001,  R)

62
Finding Neverland (2004,  PG)
63

I have a very silly sense of humour, so I thought this movie was brilliant! A big kung fu spoof with some seriously cool fight scenes.

73
The Machinist (2004,  R)
74
Equilibrium (2002,  R)
Equilibrium
GREAT movie! A futuristic thriller that constantly has you on the edge of your seat. The storyline is also really interesting: In order to ensure that human beings don't end up destroying themselves through nuclear war, a drug is invented that will cure them of having any emotions at all. The idea being that it is better to give up feelings of love, joy, etc so that the darker emotions of rage and hate won't lead to mankind destroying itself and the world. Of course there are some who feel it's an unacceptable sacrifice and that's when the fun begins!

Tsotsi (2006,  R)
Tsotsi
What a great movie! I think it deserved the Oscar for best foreign film. The story itself was incredibly sad but unfortunately also an accurate portrayal of the harsh reality that is still endured by a large number of South Africans.
102
Hoodwinked (2005,  PG)
103
Addams Family Values (1993,  PG-13)
104
The Prophecy (1995,  R)

The Matador (2005,  R)
The Matador
I was SO surprised by this movie. I'm NOT a big Pierce Brosnan fan, but he really stole the show in this film! His portrayal of a conflicted sociopath was brilliant! The movie on the whole was so stylishly done and of course all Killers fans will love the great theme song :)
106
Dead End (2003,  R)
Dead End
This was actually an unexpectedly good horror I thought. There weren't any big names in this movie, but the acting wasn't dreadful and the storyline was quite interesting and creepy too.
107
The Witches (1990,  PG)
108
Hot Fuzz (2007,  R)
Hot Fuzz
I can?t believe I haven?t done a review on this one yet! I saw it quite a while back and let me just say that so far it?s been my favourite movie this year. Initially I was quite sceptical that Simon Pegg and company would be able to come up with another movie as good as Shaun of the Dead, but I must admit that I found this one to be slightly better! It has everything from great action sequences to mystery and suspense to witty dialogue, as well as the usual zany rapport between Pegg and Frost.

The best fun I?ve had at the movies in a long time!
109
Little Miss Sunshine (2006,  R)

116
Mean Creek (2004,  R)
Mean Creek
What a great movie! Although the story?s quite simple (a group of teenagers decide to teach the school bully a lesson, but the prank goes terribly wrong) strong acting from the entire cast manages to maintain a nail-biting tension throughout the film. It is quite a bleak story ? don?t expect the traditional happy ending ? but it also manages to convey very powerfully the message of taking responsibility for one?s actions. Definitely a must see!
117
Only Human (2006,  R)
118
Death at a Funeral (2007,  R)
Death at a Funeral
Without a doubt the best laugh I?ve had all year! Alan Tudyk (Steve, the Pirate from Dodgeball) is my new hero! He is INSANELY funny as the hapless Simon who accidentally ingests a hallucinogen just before the funeral begins and what follows as a result absolutely had me dying with laughter! This movie is as much character as it is action-driven and is very well executed. Funny, funny, funny ? and then some!
119
Bee Season (2005,  PG-13)
120
Millions (2005,  PG)
Millions
I honestly cannot remember when last I have watched a movie that affected me as deeply as this one. I could not stop crying after the credits started to roll! What an incredible message for the materialistic age in which we live! The story is beautifully told and the acting is absolutely superb. Very, very highly recommended!
