About Me
Extreme movie nerd and wannabe novelist. I probably should belong to "Movies Anonymous" or something. I can't go a day without watching at least one flick. I CANNOT stand movies that don't appeal to my intellect or sense of humor so that may explain a lot of my scalding reviews. I don't like having my IQ lowered when watching a movie (i.e. Biodome). I don't like wasting $7 to watch a crappy movie or $2 to rent an even crappier one. I don't like "Hollywood Schmaltz" or in lamens terms, cheesy dialogue that no real human being will ever say (i.e. S.W.A.T). I also loathe severe diatribes of over-dramatical over-acting. Marlon Brando's "Stella!!!!!!!" is classic. William Shatner's "Khaaannnnnnn!!!!!!" is just plain silly. If we have anything in common add or email me. I'm always up for making new friends :-)

MOVIE GENRES I AVOID LIKE ANTHRAX...

-- Bollywood productions. (With one exception, any movie Aishwarya Rai stars in. She's dreamy!)

-- Anything released straight-to-DVD. (Final Destination 4, Home Alone 4) or as I like to call the movie "kiss of death."

-- Unneccessary horrid sequels (Butterfly Effect 2, Caddyshack 2, Beverly Hills Cop 3)

-- French movies that do not star Audrey Tatou or Johnny Depp's hot wife.

-- Asian movies where there's no martial arts or wars going on. Ass kicking is a requisite.

-- Movies or documentaries that bash America (i.e. Michael "Hack" Moore).

-- Really cheap/stupid horror films (Puppet Master IV, V)

-- Any movies that came out before 1939 (The modern cinema era began with Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz in 1939).

-- Movies that glamorize terrorism. Blowing yourself up to kill children is NEVER honorable.

-- Anything that stars Fran Drescher and/or Gerard Depardieu.

-- Nicolas Cage movies when he's playing Nicolas Cage. (Next = sucks. Matchstick Men = brilliant)

-- Will Smith movies when he's playing Will Smith. (Wild Wild West = sucks. Ali = brilliant)

-- Tom Cruise and his voodoo magic.

-----

Rest in peace, Heath. We will miss you.

P.S. If I dis your country's movies it doesn't make me a racist. It just means your cinema sucks canal water. Develop better actors and directors!

I'm not a hater. I just hate lame cinema. If you don't approve of my reviews there are plenty of brick walls to complain at. I don't go complaining about your reviews do I?

The Dark Knight The Dark Knight PG-13 5.0 Stars
Two words. HOLY BATSHIT!!!! What a mind-blowing movie! I wanted to get up and do a touchdown dance or something celebratory after watching this monster of a film. Forget the tired premise that summer blockbusters can't be Oscar worthy. That never stopped Gladiator (summer movie remember!). The Dark Knight my friends is a genuine masterpiece of cinematic excellence and if it doesn't get a nod for Best Picture would be one of the greatest travesties in Oscar history. Christopher Nolan's image of Batman is a 1,000,000 light years ahead of Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher's now-obsolete Batman films. Fantastic camera work, awe-inspiring writing by Nolan and master screenwriter David S. Goyer and superb acting performances by everyone involved. And Heath Ledger, OH MY FREAKING GOD! It was equally exhilirating and disturbing watching his portrayal of The Joker but at the same time made me very, very sad knowing he would never act again. No one truly knew how great a talent Heath Ledger was, not until you see him in this film. Trust me, they should just give him the Best Supporting Actor Oscar now. No one will ever come close. Ledger's Joker carried a film that was already strong. He just made it stronger. From the moment he makes his presence known Ledger has you and he never lets go until the ending credits. I'm going to see it again tomorrow. Worth several viewings just to watch Ledger. Rest in peace Heath. Thank you for giving us this treat before leaving us. We will cherish it.
The Last Mimzy The Last Mimzy PG 2.5 Stars
Overall, a decent family film, but weak enough that it could have easily gone straight to DVD or been produced by ABC Family/Disney, mainly because it looks like it was produced on a shoe-string budget. The story premise is a great idea, but it somehow bogs down and becomes somewhat convoluted at times, especially with the scenes involving the future technological "toys" the primary child actors encounter. I blame that on poor direction and even poorer script writing. The special effects were OK, not Industrial Light and Magic, but passable. The young actress who plays the little sister is so pure and adorable it makes you want to go out and have kids. A good movie worth a rental or a listing on your Netflix que, but unless you're a 9-year old boy, probably only worth one viewing.

I thought Pixar had topped itself with Finding Nemo. That is, until I saw this movie. WALL-e is an absolute feast for the eyes visually with perhaps the greatest animation work in cinematic history. Also one of the most heartfelt, intelligent and fun films I've ever seen. Pixar has gotten progressively better and more daring with each film and each time have pulled it off with flair and set the bar for all other animation production houses to reach. I am utterly amazed at how Pixar was able to turn something as unemotional and static as a moving hunk of metal and give it a soul. I wanted to put my arms around WALL-e and hug him. A slam dunk for the Best Animated Film Oscar and an honest-to-God candidate for the 2009 Best Picture Oscar. It's that good.

Forget the talk that this is another superhero movie. It actually has nothing to do with that genre. Indeed, Will Smith has magnificent super powers and, once he straightens himself up (he begins the movie essentially as a homeless drunkard), does in fact become a modern-day Superman. But this film doesn't follow the same path nor does it even closely resemble a typical superhero movie. There's heart, emotion, intelligence and some fantastic comedic relief imbedded in a unique storyline. Add ultra-sexy Charlize Theron in an interesting role and several unexpected plot twists and you've got a blockbuster in the making. And of course, Will Smith's star power is what carries the film, which just goes to show how good an actor the man is. Worth multiple viewings. A hell of a fun movie.

Looks about as intelligent as mud wrestling with Rosie O'Donnell.

Easily the most kick-assed, visually pleasing and adrenaline ride of a movie to come out since The Matrix. Extremely bloody and violent, but also jaw-droppingly good with great special effects, acting, creative direction and cinematography and action sequences that will make you jump out of your seat and hurl your popcorn into the next row. Pay no attention to the talk that this is a rip-off of The Matrix. Admittedly the special effects of this film are indeed heavily inspired by the Matrix and the use of the "bullet-time" technology is never lacking, but it is only used to enhance the already well-written storyline, not for the sake of putting something incredibly cool in a dull movie. Angelina Jolie has never looked better (watch for the flash of her perfect behind midway through, worth the price of admission on its own). A superb adaptation of the graphic novel and despite lacking the biggest trademark of Mark Millar's masterpiece (the characters in the movie don't have super powers like superheroes. They do in the comic), still sets the bar higher for all future action movies to follow. An absolute crotch rocket of a film.

The best movie ever. Changed how Hollywood operated and changed how we look at movies. The only thing to ever come close to its power and scope was The Empire Strikes Back.
Reservoir Dogs 2. Reservoir Dogs R 4.5 Stars
Sets the bar for cool. I love this movie's dialogue so much that I will just play the movie and just listen to the movie without really watching. Only outdone by Pulp Fiction.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 3. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back PG 5.0 Stars
Mythic and poignant in its own right, this is no sequel, but a simple continuation to the original. Of course, all the Star Wars movies are like that. ESB's strength is its acting and story line. Luke's training with Yoda may be one of the most powerful movie moments ever. Luke slowly begins to realize that the fate of everything lies on his shoulders and he is woefully under-prepared. Charming, but also dark enough to be enjoyable for anyone.
The Big Lebowski 4. The Big Lebowski R 4.5 Stars
The Coen Brothers' are masters at developing characters and Jeff Bridges' work as The Dude may be their best. I guess I related to this character more than I have any other movie character out there. I love bowling, white russians and once got into a fight with three Germans. I also dated a woman who became a porn star and have an ex-girlfriend named Maude who's an artist. I'm also a bit lazy at times. This is a fun, trippy and totally absurd movie, but damn I love it. It never gets old.
Cool Hand Luke 5. Cool Hand Luke Unrated 5.0 Stars
In my opinion, Paul Newman's best movie and one of the best stories ever. Not really a movie, but a commentary on man's relationship with his God and how we choose to keep living and fighting even though we know we're all doomed to die eventually. Great acting, especially from George Kennedy, who won an Oscar for his role. It's highly emotional and highly entertaining.
Strangers on a Train 6. Strangers on a Train PG 4.5 Stars
How thrillers should be made. No need for high-tech gadgetry or CGI. Just a good story, good writing and good execution on film.

Jumper - unsatisfying and disappointing for a film which has such an original premise...

Goyer, Uhis and Kinberg combined should have been much more adapt at writing a screenplay which didn't play like an episode from a teen TV show. Even acclaimed director, Doug Linman, managed to lessen the impact of the special effects by throwing way too much back story into the first thirty minutes of the film.

Joseph Middleton cast this film. He must have been stoned. Jamie Bell was the only actor who showed up for filming. Christensen and Jackson were horrible. Bilson should stick to television. She is not movie material. Diane Lane should be thankful her part was so small.

The only bright spot in this film, aside from the premise, was Barry Peterson's cinematography. That was surprising.

    Just my two cents...

Saw the trailer for this Christmas Day and was highly anticipating the film. I'm thankful I waited for the DVD and didn't spend the $$ for the cinema.

I'm sorry but, 3 stars is the highest rating I can give. For the fact that half of the creatures in the movie didn't even need to be in the film cause they didn't come back later! *cough* TOOTH FAIRIES! *cough*. The martial arts that Prince Nuada did were simply -amazing-, the make-up, -amazing-, but the one thing that pissed me off so badly? They made Abe Sapien a PANSY!! A character who had so much knowledge and so much potencial, I was for sure positive they would make him "The Boss" of this movie. But, I think it ruined it for the fact that they got a new guy to do his voice. BRING BACK DAVID! But, the Angel of Death was cool. I'll give yeah that!

But, Meh. Some people liked it! Give it a try if you think its worth it.

The story in a Buster Keaton short is not that important, once he starts doing those great things on screen I don't want it to end. The camera is able to see four rooms at the same time and Keaton moves from room to room, through walls and ceilings. It is all great.

Cinderella Man is in my opinion one of the best boxing movies ever made.
Probably because it's not all about boxing.
The story-line is revealed so artistically that as the film progresses, one actually understands what James Braddock goes through.
The fact that this is a true story makes the film look even better!
The entire cast was great but Russell Crowe and Paul Giamatti are superb.

Once upon a time, Batman Begins was my all time favorite Batman movie. Not anymore... Enter The Dark Knight----PHENOMENAL!!!

It is rare that a much hyped film lives up to or surpasses that hype. TDK more than equals all the hype presented months leading up to its release. With much anticipation and high expectations, this film delivered all I wanted and more.

Plot details are best left for viewing, but if you truly listen to the dialogue in TDK, you will understand that from a comic book genre film, a masterpiece has arisen. Christopher Nolan has perfected the art of putting the comic book on screen. Jonathan Nolan has written a script which knows no boundaries.

Christian Bale is Batman. Bale captures Batman/Bruce Wayne in a way no actor before him ever could. Oldham, Morgan, and Caine reprise their respective roles from Batman Begins and add great flavor to the film. Eckhart shines as Harvey Dent and Gyllenhall is a nice replacement as Rachel Dawes. The chemistry between all the actors help Nolan create a world which works beautifully.

Heath Ledger- the Joker...WOW ... mere words cannot describe what Ledger brought to this character. The level to which Ledger took the Joker is almost incomprehensible. No comparison to those who have played the role before as it would be like comparing apples to oranges. Ledger owns the Joker, and most likely no one will ever take that ownership away. Anyone would be foolish to even attempt. Ledger's performance alone is enough reason for anyone to see this film. Will he receive an Oscar nod? He should for this is one of the most brilliant roles ever portrayed on screen.

The plot, the acting, the directing, and the cinematography are blended seamlessly in TDK. The film is easily the best film of 2008 to date. The action and drama, the darkness of the film itself all make this much, much more than a comic book adaptation. This is the must see film of the decade.

Prepare yourself to be blown away.... TDK rises above any which have come before it. (Seeing this in IMAX is magnificent and highly recommended!)

OMFG. This movie was fucking awesome! Everybody brought their A-game in this one. Aaron Eckhart was great as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. But mostly Heath Ledger's Joker made Jack Nicholson's Joker look like a fucking chump. Heath's performance was great. He better get an Oscar or I'm boycotting the Academy since they really don't take Movies that are based on comics seriously. Definitely my top 5 favorites.

"Holy amazing movie, Batman!" - Robin (1960)

Wow... I'm speechless. What else is there to say? Utterly perfect. Everything expected from this film is accomplished. Believe all the hype. Bravo Christopher Nolan, Bravo! You have just accomplished to create the best superhero movie imaginable. Wait, is this film even classified in the superhero genre? Not to me. This film takes "superhero" to a hole new level.

The Dark Knight manages to surpass Batman Begins in every level imaginable. The characters in this film are all portrayed amazing. All the buzz surrounding the late Heath Ledger about a possible Oscar nod is a great probability chance. Some scenes he was in chilled you to the bone, others he was horrifyingly hilarious. He is THE Joker... say goodbye to Jack Nicholson's Joker. Though it's a shame of the fate he had... this film would have risen him a lot.
Other amazing performances are created by Aaron Eckhart, he completely shines as Harvey "Two Face" Dent. This film shows the rise and the fall of a hero by the portrayal of Dent.
"You Either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" - Harvey Dent
This is the quote to define this film in one sentence.
Christian Bale replays his role as Bruce Wayne and Batman amazing as well. He still is the best Batman I have seen. This film is summed up by three characters. The one who comes out on top from these three in The Dark Knight clearly is Heath Ledger. Don't forget about other great performances by Gary Oldman, Maggie Gyllenhaal (tremendous improvement from Katie Holmes), Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.

This is my second favorite film released in 2008 so far (the other being Wall-E). The Dark Knight is a way better film than Iron Man was, in my opinion (and that was considered the best comic book movie of all time). Now that this one has been released, in my opinion, it should claim that top spot previously held by Iron Man.
Don't expect to go to this film as a Batman movie for the kids, it is not. Leave those to the first four Batman movies. This one takes a huge step from the typical superhero genre and takes it up another notch. Compare this with Heat and The Departed, even The Godfather: Part II (one of my favorite movies). Please don't compare this with the silly Batman and Robin and Batman Forever, they are completely different, other than sharing similar characters. Those movies were horrible.
This film won't disappoint. My expectation were way high before watching it, and they were met. An amazing piece of entertainment. One of this year's best, I can tell. Greatly recommended.
Believe the hype. This film surpasses every expectation held. A tremendous piece of work by Christopher Nolan. The best Batman movie released, and the best "superhero" movie released up to this point. Amazing! I don't even consider it a "superhero movie".

Holy fucking shit, this was the greatest 152 minutes of my life. It's an insanely epic masterpiece and I loved every fucking minute of it. It's the greatest and most perfect comic book movie to ever be made and it makes any others obsolete. I got all I hoped for and more. Not many comic book movies have exceeded my expectations but this has. Christopher Nolan is a GOD. Yes, I'm a psychotic, obsessive fanboy and I don't care what any of you pretentious, pedantic film snobs think. This is my favorite movie.

Dude, Heath Ledger is a fucking force of nature and he's truly terrifying as all hell. I just love all the character's little nuances. He totally obliterates Jack's Joker in every single way. He makes Jack look like a child. He fucking owns this movie. He has indelibly left his mark on comic and cinema fans forever. If he doesn't get an Oscar, you can bet your ass I'll be boycotting. Believe it.

The rest of the cast is fantastic, as well. Bale's the fucking man. He always brings a stellar performance. His Bruce Wayne is perfect and his Batman kicks ass. Aaron Eckhart is a treat as Harvey Dent and his Two-Face is disgustingly good. Gary Oldman is a fucking badass. He was born to play Gordon. Michael Caine is charmingly splendid, as always. Maggie Gyllenhaal does a really good job too. She actually brings some credibility and respectability to the role, unlike the generic Katie Holmes.

The atmosphere of this movie is amazingly surreal, it feels like a living, breathing comic book and the action is fucking balls to wall insane. The ending is bleak as hell but it's awesome. I wonder how Nolan and Co. are going to top this, it seems like an impossible feat. If they even come close to the sheer awesomeness of this I'll eat my shoe. Oh, and did I mention it's awesome?

Fuck Superman. Fuck Spider-Man. Batman is the shit.
