Very good film from the 70's that made its mark, telling the story of a woman faced with sudden liberation. Well done on all accounts. The only exception I would make would be for Bill Conti's overbearing film score. Way too much when subtlety would have been the much better choice.
You know we're in February when this is the tripe we're being given. Hey, Kate and Matthew, try being in a real movie! You're both embarrassing yourselves.
George Lucas' greatest film, and also one of the best Independent Films ever! An excellent ensemble cast, great music, writing and direction make this one of the best nostalgic movies. Walter Murch provided revolutionary sound design and Haskell Wexler helped create the pitch-perfect cinematography. A meloncholy epilogue gives the film that unique 70's signature.
Darker, more violent "Trek" entry. Probably too much. Loses a certain amount of Roddenberry's spirit in the process. Excellent film score by Jerry Goldsmith (along with son Joel) help bring the emotions up in this entry.
Okay, I know this one's a mess! The story idea could have been very compelling. But, the cut rate visual effects especially mess this one up. Also, Shatner's unsure direction and shaky script don't help things. However, thank gosh Jerry Goldsmith gets to return and deliver an excellent film score!
Perhaps the most awkward of the "Trek" films since the writers kind of wrote themselves into a corner in "Wrath" and had to spend this film tying up loose ends. But, good character moments help make this an okay enough entry.
Goofy, silly, over the top, but thoroughly entertaining! A way over the top villain and excellent film score provide the thrills. Definitely not a film Roddenberry would have written, but fun nonetheless!
Great conclusion to the original cast films! The direction is first rate, the story is different, being a mystery, and the characters get their chance to shine. Well done across the board!
My second favorite "Trek" film! Great story, excellent character moments and epic sweep make this installment stand out! I was definitely wondering if this one would work, but it does! Highly recommended, bridges the original cast and Next Gen cast very well!
Entertaining, but a bit silly entry in the "Trek" series. The time travel stuff always leaves me skeptical, and this film doesn't help! But, the characters get to shine more here than usual. However, the mediocre visual effects and only okay film score don't help much.
Okay ending to the "Next Generation" era. Not the great movie we were promised! Decent action and good character interaction, but should have been better. This is sadly Jerry Goldsmith's final "Trek" film. He does a very good job in his final appearance.
I will see it, but I gotta tell ya, I cannot look at Ellen Page and not think of her in that reprehensible movie "Hard Candy." Still makes me sick to my stomach! :-P
My favorite "Star Trek" film! Yeah, I know that makes me different. But, I believe that this is the one "Star Trek" that truly feels like a film and not an extended, big-budget TV episode. A unique storyline that actually thinks about life beyond Earth, a great film score, and excellent visual effects make this a great movie! The new, remastered DVD looks great and allows you to see the film the way Robert Wise intended you too.
