I'd give this movie best picture all over again if it came out today. Many of the themes in this movie are just as relevant today as they were when the movie came out. Even without the flashy computer graphics, they still managed to capture the essence and horror of war and how it affects the lives of these young German soldiers.
Heath Ledger's performance is the only redeeming thing about this movie. I'm sorry to all those who say this is the best movie ever made, but I really think it's too long and too slow. Too many scenes end just when they're starting to get exciting, and there's no discernable climax (rather, too many almost-climaxes competing with one another). Maybe I just didn't get it, so I plan to see it again and may revisit this review at that time. Only one more thing to say: Iron Man was better, hands down.
Every bit as good as the book as far as the action and thrill-ride is concerned, but can't bring myself to rate it higher what with all the anti-Christian rhetoric.
I'm having trouble deciding whether it was as good or better than Last Crusade, but it's definitely a worthy entry to the Indiana Jones canon. If you get the chance to see it in the theaters, don't pass it up.
This was an incredible film. I probably wouldn't have considered watching it, given my dislike for boxing, but we've made a goal to watch every Academy Award winning Best Picture, and this one did not dissappoint. Of the five or six Best Pictures we've watched so far, it's probably my favorite. Go see it!
