Lady in the Water (2006,  PG-13)
Lady in the Water 5.0 Stars
I was recently bought Lady in the Water as I wished to see it again after I saw it at cinema - and I have to say that I loved it at cinema, but I love it even more now! I cannot stop watching it!
M. Night Shyamalan has created what I think is his best work in Lady in the Water.
Based on a bedtime story that Night used to tell his daughters, Lady in the Water revolves around a variety of people living in a small apratment block, who's lives ar echanged forever when the mysterious lady named Story is discovered in the swimming pool.
It is one of the most magical films I have ever seen which touches my heart every time I see it.

Star Trek - First Contact (1996,  PG-13)
Star Trek - First Contact 5.0 Stars
Star Trek: First Contact is the 8th Trek film and the 2nd to star the Next Generation crew.
The Borg, one of the Federations deadliest enemies, send a ship to assimilate earth in the past, by stopping Earths first ever warp ship from launching.
The Enterprise attempt to stop them but may be out of their league as Data is captured and Picard faces a foe from his past - the Borg Queen!
By many Trek fans, 'First Contact' is considered to be the best film of the series and I could very well agree!
The cast are outstanding - especially Patrick Stewert as Picard. Alice Krige is superb as the evil yet sexy Borg Queen whilst Alfre Woodard is billiant as Lilly.
The film is truely scary in parts and the action scenes have to be seen - especially the space fight on the hull of the Enterprise!
'First Contact' is a great sci-fi film that would be loved by both fans of Trek and newcommers to the franchise!
Masterpeice!

Deep Impact (1998,  PG-13)
Deep Impact 5.0 Stars
One of my favourite films in the world ever, 'Deep Impact' always moves me, excites me and brings me to tears!
Tea Leoni plays a journalist who uncovers the horrific news that a comet is heading for earth that will destroy all life when it hits. The film follows the struggle for survival as Robert Duvall leads a group of astronauts to stop the giant rock, whilst the world waits in hope and fear.
Leoni is brilliant in this film as is Morgan freeman as the President. Elijah Wood and Vanessa Redgrave also star.
Released at the same time as 'Armagedon', this film wa sslightyl overlooekd. Howeve rfor me, this is not an action film about the destruction of earth, it is an emotional story focused on the characters and their lives.
Brillaint.

Airplane! (1980,  PG)
Airplane! 5.0 Stars
David Zucker and Jim Abrahams have created a great style for themselves using slapstick and 'spoof' comedy. 'Airplane', one of their earliest works, is by far their greatest.
Ted Striker (Robert Hays), an ex-pilot in the war must face his fears of planes to get back his partner Elaine (Julie Hagerty) leaves him, taking a job as a stewardess on a plane that is doomed for disaster.
When the planes meals render the pilots unconscious, Ted must brave his fears and take control of the plane in order to save the day and win back Elaine.
A great array of characters appear in 'Airplane', including Leslie Nielsen as Dr. Rumack and Robert Stack as Rex Kramer.
If you love slapstick comedy where almost every single line is a gag then this is the film for you!
It is simply, laugh out loud fun that will leave you smiling at the end!
A true classic!

Jurassic Park (1993,  PG-13)
Jurassic Park 5.0 Stars
'Jurassic Park' was the first film that ever made my eyes wide and my jaw drop.
Dr. Grant (Sam Neil) and his partner Dr. Sattler (Laura Dern) are invited by John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) to visit a dinosaur themed park where the dinosaurs are real!
Things however turn disastrous when Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) shuts down the power to the park, allowing the dinosaurs to roam free!
A great cast, which also includes Jeff Goldblum, and Samuel L. Jackson, support the main stars of the film - the Raptors and the T-Rex!
This is family fun with brilliant scenes that keep you gripped to the edge of your seat!
It really does make you fear dinosaurs and make you think what would happen if they were brought back to life.
Even to this day, although effects improve all the time, 'Jurassic Park' is still so realistic you could actually beleive it!

Moulin Rouge! 5.0 Stars
A young and somewhat naive writer, Christian (Ewan McGregor) moves to Paris where he gets a job writing a play for the Moulin Rouge - a world famous nightclub.
Disaster strikes when he falls in love with Satine (Nicole Kidman), the most beautiful courtesan who just happens to be the affection of the Duke (Richard Roxburgh), a rich and powerful man who will stop at nothing to ge tthe woman he desires.
'Moulin Rouge' is a spetacular musical like none seen before. It is loud, brash and in-your-face. And it is brilliant to watch!
Most of the songs you will recognise, with a few new ones thrown in, that are excellently made and sung.
The film boasts an exciting and very sad story of love and lfie.
Costarring Jim Boradbent, the casting is superb as is the film istelf!
An great musical that will move all who watch it!

Labyrinth 5.0 Stars
Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) is in teenage angst, hating her step-mother and her new baby brother. One night, when looking after the baby, she wishes that the Goblins from her favorite book would come and take him away - not realising that they really would!
Sarah, challenged by the Goblin King (David Bowie) must make her way through the Labyrinth, filled with mysterious creatures, to rescue her brother.
This classic fantasy adventure is filled with amazing and wonder around every turn.
The creatures, created by the Jim Henson Company, are brilliant - from the small and grumpy Hoggle, to the large and hairy Ludo.
David Bowie is perfectly cast as the Goblin King and performs a number of great songs.

Star Trek - The Voyage Home, puts the crew of the Enterprise into 1980's Earth - comedy genuis ensues! The crew are clueless as how to act in the 80's and end up making themsleves seem like crazy people!
But the comedy is just one side to htis film. The other shows a desperate attempt to save Earth in the future by rescueing two hump-back whales. A perfect mixture of action, comedy and sci-fi make this a Trek classic!

Star Trek - The Motion Picture 5.0 Stars
Star Trek makes its long waited return from TV to the big screen with the Motion Picture!
The Motion Picture reunites the cast of the original series after many years apart. They all come back to their roles perfectly!
William Shatner reprises Captain Kirk with ease, along with Leanord Nimoy and DeForest Kelly as Spoke and McCoy.
The film has a great story, a machine who is in search of its creator. The effects are brilliant for its day and some scenes are a spectacular for the eyes!
Often critisised as being too slow in part, I think it only builds up tension and suspence for the final scenes on the film when we discover the truth about the machine!

An alien lifeform infiltrates scientists in the Antarctic. The alien can shapeshift to resemble anyone so no one can be trusted!
That is one of the things that makes this film so creepy. There are some brilliant and gory effects, made before the days of CG when everything was done by models and puppets, giving it a more realsitic look.
The ending that must be watched as it chills me to th bone!
All of these things make the Thing a terrifying and brilliant horror!

Lost and alone, he seeks refuge with two apes who sympathise with the humans, Cornelius and Zira, who are the only two apes to beleive that humans have intelligence and vow to help him escape from his chains.
Planet of the Apes is not only a great sci-fi, but a great look into our own world and the way we live.
The film boasts amazing make-up and prosthetics which still look great to this day.
Heston is brilliant as usual, and the storyline is amazing, with one of the greatest endings to a film ever!

Gene Wilder is a master at playing Mr Wonka, and the set for the factory itself is amazing to see! I really wish I could go to that factory when I watch the film!
The comedy is brilliant, the music is very memerable, especially those little cheeky Oompa Loompas! The film is even quite scary in places, such as the boat ride. I never understood why there was a chicken getting its head cut off... hmm.
Anyway, don't let that put you off. Its a great family film!

Follow the colourful (even though it was originally in black and white) adventure, filled with Lions tigers and bears! Oh my!
Judy Garland is great as Dorothy, but it is the comic values of Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion that truely make us smile!
Enjoy the adventure, fear the Wicked Witch and sing along with the timeless classic songs! Even go out in fancy dress as the characters if you like!

The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers (2002,  PG-13)
The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers 5.0 Stars
The Two Towers sees the film split up into three parts - one following Frodo and Sam as they seek a way into Mordor with the help of the scheming Gollum - one following Aaragorn, Gandalf, Legolas and Gimli as they battle hoards of Orcs to save Helms Deap - the third following Merry and Pippin as they meet the tree-like Ents.
A whole cast of new characters are also met in this second film, including Bernard Hill as King Theoden, Brad Dourif as Wormtongue and of course the CG character of Gollum (voiced by Andy Serkis) which is one of the most ground breaking characters ever created on screen.
A brilliant film with amazing action secquences (the huge battle scene at Helms Deap comes to mind), visual effects (such as Gollum and Treebeard) and still managing to create great emotional scenes.
Peter Jackson has made the fantasy genre his own, meaning film makers are going to have to ocme up with something amazingly good to steal his throne!

Cidade de Deus, (City of God) (2003,  R)
Cidade de Deus, (City of God) 5.0 Stars
'City of God' is based on true events taking place between the 60's and the 80's in a small city in Rio de Janeiro.
Rocket is a young man who wants to become a photographer and get out of the drug and crime ridden place that he lives. The film follows Rockets life, with the stories of those around him which include drug dealers, murderers and gang warlords.
'City of God' is a film that all must see. It is subtitled, but don't let that put you off.
It is a film about the lives of those in the city - but this is a true story so it makes you think and feel for the people that actually have to lve in places like this.
Plenty of action with some brutal and bloody scenes, 'City of God' focuses on the harsh realities of life in Rio.

Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgundy 5.0 Stars
Will Ferrell stars in 'Anchorman - the legend of Ron Burgandy'.

Ron Bergundy (Ferrell) is the lead news reader in San Diego in the 1970's - a time when men ruled the office and women were only good for one thing.

However, when Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), a power hungry news reader, come son the scene, Burgundy and his group of news buddies ar eforced to deal with working alongside a woman - a woman that Burgundy has fallen in love with!

Ferrell is brilliant in this daft comedy. The part of Burgundy could only have been played by the moustache bearing Ferrell!

Also starring the hilarious Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Steve Carell. Carell being the highlight of the entire film as the dim witted Brick.

With cameos from Ferrells buddies Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson, 'Anchorman' is a hilarious film that will have you crying with laughter!
