My Favorite Movies

I have yet to see a film that is this close to perfection, that it's taken me 2 days after seeing the film before I could write a proper review. While my friend told me that I had to think how great it would be multiple that by a million then multiple it again by a million and it's about as close as you can get to this masterpiece. He's a 100% right. I'll start by stating the obvious Daniel Day-Lewis is a God among actors. He's not just acting like Daniel Plalnview he IS Daniel Plainview. He's just flat out scary as hell (He makes Anton Chuirgugh look like George Bailey) but also makes us understand why he does what he does. In a year of great performances Day-Lewis is hands down the most deserving of the best actor oscar. Now that shouldn't be a surprise to any film lovers but what is surprising is that the entire cast is at Day Lewis' level. Paul Dano proves he's one of the future greats with an equally dark and scary performance and the newcomer Dillon Freasier gives just as strong a performance as Day-Lewis (That says a lot since he plays his 8 year old son H.W Plainview.). It's the best performance by a young actor I've seen. P.T Anderson oh dear God I can't pit into words how f*cking brilliant you are. I expected to love this film but never did I think you would top my list of favorite films. (Yes better then Godfather, Raging Bull and Do The Right Thing.) With it great camera work, set design, score (Radio Head's Johnny Green can do no wrong) screenplay, acting and direction (I couldn't even keep my eyes off it during the first 20 minutes where no one talked!). All that's left to say is thank God in a year of Norbit and Wild Hogs we have you.

At first I was wondering if there was really a point of writing another review for this masterpiece because what can I really add to this film's universal praise. #1 on IMDB, 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and #2 of the AFI's greatest films of all time list. So just quite simply it's a masterpiece. There's no other way to put it and a million careers own a great amount to Francis Ford Coppola.

A film that show cases a great actor and director at thier peck

It takes a lot to properly write about a film like The Dark Knight. A masterpiece so revolutionary, so haunting and so visionary that you wonder what the fuck you did to deserve something this great. In all honestly the Dark Knight is everything I expected and then some. To call it simply the greatest comic book adaptation is quite lazy. It's a epic tragedy, an intense crime drama and most likely the best ensemble piece since Magnolia something Shakespeare or Coppola would have wrote for our time.
Now enough of me gushing about my love for the film and I will explain my self. The man who deserves the most credit here is director/writer Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan. for taking the time to create the dark atmosphere of Gotham and its characters. I know people who in the past have called Nolan nothing more then a visual wizard with no sense of character or story. The Dark Knight proves once and for all that Christopher Nolan is one of if not the best filmmaker of my generation. The man visually the movie is shot with a poet's eye and even with a lack of action is always intense and never wastes a minute of it's 2 and a half running time.
Now what is there to really say about the cast. Christian Bale back in the role of Bruce Wanye brings a masterful performance that resembles Al Pacino's haunted weary look in the Godfather 2. Well chances are Bale will be overlooked again come oscar time he is so far the best lead performance of the year (I'll get to the best performance later on take a guess who it is.) Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman bring the same warmth and humor to their roles. Maggie Gyllenhaal is a good replacement for Katie Homles bringing much more energy and bite to the love interest role (Now I see what Bruce saw in Rachel.) Aaron Eckhart perfectly casted redeems everything that happens to Two-Face in Batman Forever making him I think is as great a tragic character as anything in modern cinema. Now finally how can I talk about The Dark Knight without mentioning the legendary and fucking brilliant performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker. Shit this guy makes Alex in A Clockwork Orange look like Atticus Finch. Ledger is The Joker, never without a purpose or a motive hell even his attempts for a joke are hardly a relief. Always hypnotic and spellbinding Ledger's performance is a all too painful a reminder about loss of this gifted and fearless actor on January 28 but god damn it is hard to imagine a greater final performance then his. If there is any justice in this world Ledger will get the oscar for his performance.
Simply put not one for the kids (This movie pushes the PG-13 rating to extremely violent highs) The Dark Knight is however a masterpiece on levels that even I didn't imagine and one of the greatest films of all time. Really the worst part of it is that now I don't have anything to look forward to now until the DVD release date. Don't you wish Michael Bay could have this kind of ambition?

What else can I saw about this film no else has said about this movie. Not only is it Spike Lee's best work but his most thought provoking. This movie says so much about the issue of racism. Why does this film manage to hit the mark where so many films failed? Because Hollywood never got anywhere near it. It's straight to the point and hard hitting. A must see movie that will even make Kramer think about the issue.

After watching this wonderful movie again and by questioned again for the film being in my top 10 of all times. Look I'm shamelessly in love with Tim Burton's movies and I just can't think of a better example then Edward Scissorhands to explain why I love his movies.
I guess I should start by mentioning Johnny Depp in what is so far his best acting to date and he doesn't even talk that much in the film. Instead we have to see all the longing and pain in the way Ed moves, looks at people even how he breaths. That being said Depp is perfect in the role. He provides every bit of warmth and heartbreak in the role. The film itself has some of the most breathtaking scenes every displayed on film and is just one of the best written characters of all time.
This isn't for everyone but if you can't relate to Burton's masterpiece about being an outsider at least once you have a heart of stone.

The best movie I never want to see again. So heart breaking and directed so brilliantly and a very strong cast. Makes Schindler's List a movie we all should see.

What else can I tell you about this movie and Edward Norton's Performance that hasn't already been said?

Ah what is left to say about Memento, proof that Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest filmmakers of our decade this is the greatest mind fucker of all time with one of the greatest concepts of all time. Great and complex performances from Guy Pearce, Joe Pantoliano and Carrie-Anne Moss. Not one for Michael Bay fans this is one smart filmgoers will love.

Great fight scenes and a beutiful and compelling story told by one of todays greatest film makers Ang Lee. What the f*ck more could you want in a movie?

Not since A Clockwork Orange has a movie been this haunting and brilliant. The movie has some of the best camera work I've ever seen and Clive Owen and espically Micheal Caine have never been better. But what makes it work is Alfonso Cuaron's rare talent to make sure you never forget what you have seen in his movies. Not only Alfonso's best work to date and one of the year's best but one of the decade's best movies. Too bad no one on this website is smart enough on this website to f*cking understand that.

After watching this film now for the 60th time I thought that Leon deserved a better review then my first one sentence review. Quite simply I love everything about this movie. I love the characters, the story, the acting. Every single thing I can think of. Although it's suppose to be an action film. It feels more like a great study of the need for friendship which is portrayed perfectly by my future wife Natalie Portman and Jean Reno. They work so well together and both give their best performances to date. Of course Gary Oldman is great and proves he's one of the greatest actors of are time. I'm not a Luc Besson fan but this film has earned it's place in my personal top 10.

As a film geek I'm kind of ashamed that it's taken me this long to see a film as loved as the Seven Samurai. Rest assure that now that I have seen it, I believe that it's just as epic and powerful a masterpiece as everyone says that it is. Hell knowing how much everyone owns to this film is worth seeing. I haven't seen much of Akira Kurosawa's films but he's clearly a brilliant filmmaker after seeing this. I can't praise this film enough. Just go see it and if you complain about how long it is then your a f*cking idiot.

What was Paul Greengrass thinking? Making a movie about 9/11?(Universal only let him make the film because they want him to do another Bourne movie.) Don't worry the man knows what he's doing making not only the best film of 2006 but with his documentary style of film making and his cast of unknowns with his heart felt movie. Shows the story about the brave souls who were lost that day. A movie that deserves our respect and viewing.

Screw the people who see it as being too violent (There's no actual violence until the final scene.). Martin Scorsese doesn't just give you one of his best but incredibly thought provoking film about violence in media and how we as a society have conflicting views on what makes a man a hero or not.

This maybe the best film I have ever seen in theatres. Director Danny Boyle has not only reinvented the sci-fi genre the way he did with the horror film genre with 28 days later. He has made the best film of his career and the greatest film of this genre since 2001. This film does everything a summer film should have. It's one of the most the most visually beautiful films I have ever seen but unlike Transformers it doesn't let that block the story or the acting. Thank God for that. The entire cast excels including the always terrific Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne and Michelle Yeoh and features the biggest surprise of the year. Chris Evans (The flame dude from Fantastic 4) can actually act. Sadily chances are that this movie is too good for people to fully get now ( How many of you seen the Fountain or Children Of Men?) But to put it in simple words GO SEE THIS MOVIE. It will be the best $12 you spend this summer.
