Excellent animated comedy for adults from Ralph Bakshi and one of my favorite animated movies for a long time.

Rozzie is smokin' hot here with those big knockers, recommended.
The New York Ripper The New York Ripper Unrated 4.0 Stars
Very sleazy and hard to watch shockfeast from Lucio Fulci which is his most controversial film yet. Think of it as "Se7en" http://www.flixster.com/static/images/bt_save_ani.gif
http://www.flixster.com/static/images/bt_save_ani.gifif it was more shocking, this is not a movie for the faint of heart due to scenes of graphic gore and sexual torture.

A sequel that blows away the original in terms of scale and grandess! gotta love Yoda.
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi 3. Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi PG 5.0 Stars
Easily the weakest of the classic trilogy but still a strong finale entry, the OT certainly went out with a bang on this one despite the Ewoks.
Pulp Fiction 4. Pulp Fiction R 5.0 Stars
Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece! there's nothing that can be said about this great film, you gotta see it.
Psycho 5. Psycho R 5.0 Stars
The mother of all horror movies! captivated me ever zince i first rented it when i was 16 back in 1998 and loved it ever since, it became an all time favorite of mine and is sure to entertain generations to come.
The Wizard of Oz 6. The Wizard of Oz G 5.0 Stars
A true ageless movie all the way! great performances, spectacular settings and of course Judy Garland whom is just gorgeous as Dorothy Gale, this is one of those movies that gets better with age and it's still the greatest fantasy movie of them all with "Lord of the Rings".

Sorry for the short hiatus… Yes, I suppose you’re right about the “Masters of the Universe” movie, but I still think it’s great in its own right. True, most of it is set on present-day Earth, which is something of a letdown, but they could have done a lot worse. Remember the sequel to “Beastmaster”: “Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time”? That was terrible! At least, “Masters of the Universe” has a compelling villain and plenty of eye candy to boot. As for Orko, as much as I like him, I doubt they could have pulled off a convincing floating legless wizard back in 1987. Even if he had made it into the movie, they probably would have ended up having to minimize his screen time due to technical difficulties and budget restrictions. Remember, that was before CGI!
To answer your other questions, of course I remember the Saturday morning “Sonic the Hedgehog” cartoon! I’m going to buy it on DVD soon. What a great show! As far as sci-fi series involving anthropomorphized animals go, it’s right up there with “Bucky O’Hare”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, “ThunderCats” and “Biker Mice from Mars”. The makers of the show did a great a job of improving on the video games’ storyline. I especially like how Robotnik went from dorky mad scientist to powerful overlord ruling Sonic’s planet with an iron fist (no pun intended.) It’s funny that I mentioned Hordak in my last post because there are significant parallels between the Horde and Robotnik’s evil cybernetic empire: both are heavily-industrialized powers bent on defeating some nature-loving rebels trying to free their world from oppression. Ever thought of that?
As for, "Hey Good-Looking", I don't think I’ve never heard of it before... I usually like Ralph Bakshi's style, so I’ll definitely look it up! Thanks!

Jack Brooks' monsters and story is more akin to Argento's "Demons", "Evil Dead", or "Night of the Demons" as it does not contain any traditional creatures, but demonic grotesqueries. It is sort of comparable to "The Monster Squad" in that Monster Squad is a mash-up of the creatures from classic horror, and Jack Brooks is a smattering of demonic creatures and plot points from the 80s demon features. There isn't a group of lovable protagonists like in Monster Squad, as Jack is a very solitary character and his story is one of him against the world. The creatures in Jack Brooks are very distorted creatures with disgusting features that come from the same source. The main "demon" thing resembles Jabba the Hutt, and what it spawns are humanoid demons. This is far more gross with its scares than Monster Squad as well.

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer

The story is about a 3 star (for horror), but the production effects are so great that I HAD to give this four stars.

This is a FUN creature feature with some wicked awesome monsters and an interesting protagonist who is not annoyingly cocky, but instead empathetically emotional. This is a fun get smashed Friday night movie for gore freaks, and it would scare the crap out of a kid or lightweight. I imagine if I saw this before I developed my scare immunities, I wouldn't sleep comfortably for a few days - that's how great the makeup is.

I'm a huge proponent of practical effects, which is probably why I like this movie so much. The first two acts are mostly exposition, and then the concluding twenty-five minutes is all monster fighting. During the fight, Jack does some foolish things like discard his weapons constantly, then when the next monster attacks him, has to struggle to find another makeshift weapon (and this gag is pulled at least three times). I thought compared to earlier outbursts, the actor didn't showcase Jack's rage when it came to fighting the monsters, and it's not just because the monsters dwarf his aggression with their growls. I think the actor was trying to inject some fear into Jack, but it just came off as Jack wasn't in his uncontrollable anger mode.

I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel and hope they don't lapse into using loads of CGI, as the practical makeup/fx was the meat of the movie. I like how bits of the creatures' anatomy mimics the aesthetic of plumbing and pipes, which is Jack's porfession (in particular, their blood looks like dirty pipe sludge).

Also worth mentioning is Robert Englund's performance. He does a great eccentric professor. Once his character is affected by the monster heart, his body language is just astounding as if I was watching a person actually possessed.
This goes out to my horror horde (sorry to my serious cinema crowd to pollute your board with this silliness). I predict that CreepFreak will love this movie and soon be sending out another rec for it.

Yeah, it was a cool show. Some of the new character designs were bitchin'! I especially liked what they did to Hordak.
Say, what do you think of the live-action "Masters of the Universe" movie? I think it's great. As far as I'm concerned, Frank Langella's Skeletor is every bit as fascinating and memorable as his animated counterpart (gotta love Allan Oppenheimer's nasal voice.)

Are you kidding? I used to watch those shows religiously! And now, thanks to the miracle of TV series on DVD, I can relive some of my fondest childhood memories over and over again! It’s like having your life flash in front of eyes before dying – minus the death part. I hear a “Real Ghostbusters” DVD boxed set is in the works. Isn’t it great? Now, if only some company would pick up the rights to “Bucky O’Hare” and put it out on DVD…
To answer your other questions, I think I slightly prefer “Iron Man” if only because it wears its comic-book roots on its sleeve (unlike “The Dark Knight”, which feels more like a cross between a Tom Clancy novel and “The Silence of the Lambs”.) As for “Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night”, I’m sad to say I’ve only ever seen it on the small screen. :(

P.S.: I dig your new layout!

First screening: this is a plain thrilling goregasm.

Vinnie Jones - or as I know him from Gervais' and Merchant's "Extras", that footballer bloke who just acts hard though Ross Kemp reckons he could definitely beat him up - does a great butcher. He's a naturally mean looking man and a large solid physique that dwarfs his victims and equals one buff and tough wrestler-like guy who ends up as another meal. Jones has the dead stare nailed down!

I want to read Clive Barker's original story before I comment on plot elements and the script (as I watched crapfest 'Insanitarium' to get a taste of Jeff Buhler's screenwriting skills, and because this is an adaptation, I can't fairly appraise or praise until I've read the source material.

I now see what Barker was talking about when it came to fighting to keep this film uncensored, and it's generally fucked that the production and distribution systems clash so much (but that's a whole blog post unto itself I'll save for ImpRaVinG).

There's not much holding back on the blood and gore fans will be in heaven throughout the final reel. I think there were some anticipatory censorship issues with nudity of the corpses on hooks as I saw a few too many unrealistic bodies: obvious simplistic crash dummies next to a more detailed model that had a penis that defied gravity.

Still any wide shots of the corpses displayed in rows on the train cars, drawn and hung like cattle, are sickening sublime.

The (primary) murder weapon is just plain cool, from finish to design, it's an iconic horror movie weapon.

I did dislike how the beginning of the movie has some bits realistic-striving avant-garde stuff but then splats that against action-geared fights; basically, sometimes the film is playing out like a noir with lingering atmospheric shots, then it kicks into action movie mode of quick cutting and I found that conflict of moods was the biggest detriment.

I know now that I will watch this movie a few more times, one or two for serious screening, and loads for the sheer fun of it.
This rec is mostly aimed at my fellow gore and horror fans - this is a real treat. Imagine if CHUD had been done right and then smash it together with a big smattering of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, set it mostly in a bleak subway, and you've got MMT.

Hey, you should really see this! If your a fan of the classic tv show, modern gothic horror or vampires you should check this movie out. It has great sets, lots of gothic atmosphere, good make-up effects, engaging drama and even some bloody violence. And Jonathan Frid is great (as usual) as vampire Barnabas Collins.

Could have been a silent film...but than we would miss Bela's wonderfully evil/seductive voice.
The haunting music....the unworldly zombies and Lugosi's GREAT unreal presence take this above and beyond it's B Movie roots. Lugosi can convey evil with the raise of an eyebrow or the slight trace of a sly smile. One of my favorite movies of all time. OF ALL TIME. (Of course, I'm a Lugosi addict...and many may find it stilted and dated, due to the sloww pacing and the melodramatics of the other players...)
Trivia: Madge Bellamy was once a silent actress...and she died at an early age after a short life strife with scandle and tradgedy.)
Jack Pierce...the genuis responsible for all the classic Universal monster make-ups, went on loan to do the spooky zombies.
I went to a White Zombie concert here in Michigan, and a highlight was Bela's hypnotic eyes on a large screen behind the band as they were doing 'More Human than Human'!
