Public Enemies

High hopes are once again semi-crushed. Michael Mann spends so much time trying to develop and exemplify John Dillinger (Depp) that he leaves out important details - plot, coherent editing, and progressive cinematography. Also, Depp and Bale should have played each other's roles, then maybe the characterization and scenes would have been evened out and allowed for a fluid progression of the story. In fact, in switching roles, the two characters would have been better portrayed. Mann must have loved old '30s mobster dramas because it seems that a large goal was to make this movie feel as authentic as possible. Well, I can definitely say that I didn't notice one "out of era" item. I did notice how this movie was lacking though, and you probably will too. Sure, it's worth seeing if you're just DYING to go to a movie but you may regret it. Replay Value: 2
Hancock
PG-13
I will start by saying that this film did surprise me by the fact that it wasn't terrible.... if you can make it past the first 20-30 minutes. Within the first 2 minutes of the film Will Smith says "What'chu want a cookie?" and when that happened I decided I was out. There were several jokes that were racially appealing with mindless quotes that we've all heard before. When Jason Bateman entered the story however I became interested and it actually took my by surprise how well the story began to unfold. The acting became good and a plot developed and I realized, "I'm now watching a movie and not BET Def Jam Comedy anymore." I will agree with critic Will Crosswell, "If you think that you're gonna get a 'new kind of superhero' or walk away 'blown away,' then save your $10 and wait for The Dark Knight." Overall it's enjoyable but I don't really have a desire to see it again.

I love Dr. Seuss. In fact, I look down on those who don't. I believe that Dr. Seuss would have been very pleased with this film. It's funny, it's enjoyable, it's clean and most of all, it's imaginative and captivating. While it is very childish it will be hard to walk away from this film dissatisfied. Replay Value: 3
Frost/Nixon
R
If I had to choose one word to describe every aspect about this movie: superb. Superb directing, superb cinematography, superb acting, superb plots and dialogue, there is nothing about this movie that sells it short of one of the greatest films of 2008. Michael Sheen plays Frost in another stunning performance that rivals every Oscar nominated actor and if he keeps it up, I'll see every movie he's involved in. Frank Langella has a surprisingly resemblance in his astute characterization of our President. Ron Howard of course has every aspect under his total control and allows every scene to be perfect. The interviews are interesting and informative but I have on beef with it: not enough information was provided in the beginning. If you didn't know anything about President Nixon then you would find this movie confusing and boring. Thankfully, I watched this movie with my informed father (he's only informed because he's old and remembers all this jazz) but without him I would have had many questions. That's a mistake. Also, the other loss of half a star comes from the replay-ability of the movie. There is no arguing this movie's acclimations but as far as entertainment goes, this one is hardly worth a re-watch. At least not for a while. If you do know about Watergate and these Frost/Nixon interviews then you will without a doubt enjoy this movie from start to finish - it's impossible not to. The House Bunny
PG-13
Anna Faris returns as a voluptuous ex-Playboy bunny looking for a positive outlet for her... uh... talents. She decides to become the house mother for a failing sorority - if Zeta Tau Zeta doesn't get enough pledges by next semester they loose their house. Every girl, odd in their own way, combines their intelligence to come up with differing fund raisers, parties, and the like. As Shelley (Faris) learns what it's like to not be cool, ZTZ learns what it's like to fit the mold while still being an individual. I hate to call this a coming of age movie, so I won't. I will say this - the characters are dynamic. It's enjoyable if you're a teenage girl but if you like jokes then skip this movies. Sure it definitely had some funny parts, the ratio of not funny jokes to funny ones was easily 10:1 if not more. Replay Value: 2

The most influential science fiction movie since "Alien." This movie takes the cake for unprecedented ideas, a 100% unique story line, great acting, killer cast, wonderful action with gripping drama. All around one of the top ten best movies ever made.

Wow was my first reaction to this movie. I like Tarantino's works but this movie puts Pulp Fiction to shame. With the familiar multi-dimensional directing and deep characters, this movie delivers. I strongly recommend this movie.
