| The Italian (Italianetz) - PG-13 | A great story with a wonderful kid actor, this is a movie that is sure to be loved by mothers everywhere. | August 27, 2009 | N/A | |||
| District 9 - R | I. Was. Blown. Away. I cannot express how excellent this movie is with anyone who hasn't experienced it themselves. Each scene is intimate yet terrifyingly action packed. The humans are true to race and the aliens are unexplained, yet readily accepted. Unlike many other alien movies, the technology is accepted, not explained, which is phenomenal and allows for further character and plot development instead of interesting concepts. As a movie, every camera angle is exact, inviting, and clear; not once was I confused as to what was happening on screen which is difficult to do with so many CGI aspects of a film. But that's another thing, I couldn't tell what was CGI and what was puppet which is amazing because this movie was given a $30 million budget as opposed to Transformers 2's $200 million budget. It was beautiful! I cannot recommend this movie highly enough. See it. Now. Replay Value: 4 | August 26, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Inglourious Basterds - R | Tarantino is still head and shoulders above your average movie. Classic Tarantino, this movie follows two separate plots lines where collision is inevitable. The tale of a militia of Jewish fighters, out to collect 100 Nazi scalps each, have the same goal as Shosanns Dreyfus, a young cinema owner who has "graciously" been selected to host a Nazi premiere. I thought it was great how the previews told you very little about the dominating plot line but was always happy to see PItt and his Inglorious Basterds on the screen. It's humorous, well written, and true to Tarantino, building every scene slowly and exactly how he wants, and how we love to hate. The camera angles are all pristine and the acting is far above par. In fact, there is very little about this movie that I can speak negatively of. If you like Taratino, you cannot afford to miss this one. Replay Value: 4.5 | August 26, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Moon - R | The twisted tale of the sole man on the moon. Harvesting energy, Sam Bell is finishing his three year contract with NASA and is anxious to return home to his wife and child on Earth. Having no actual personal contact with humans due to the live feed satellite being downed, Sam relies on the companionship with GERTY, a computer on the ship with him. As his contract comes to an end, it seems that him leaving becomes of higher importance every closing day. It's a pretty low budget film but it makes me very excited as a movie goer. The camera angles are all very complimentary and the acting is great, even by GERTY (voiced by Kevin Spacey). Must see for all sci-fi fans. Replay Value: 3 | August 26, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Revolutionary Road - R | A powerhouse performance from every character in the film, each with their moment to shine. Winslet and DiCaprio star in this film, and that's exactly what they do: star. They shine bright in their ability to take on any role and perform any character masterfully and believably. If you want to see good acting, watch this movie. As far as the story goes, it over rules what little plot there is and makes this movie a character examination. Frank and April Wheeler (Leo and Kate) are seemingly average people with comfortable lives. This makes their decision to just pack up and move to Paris a surprise to everyone, especially with a few added twists. The reason I can't give this film a perfect rating is because the involvement of the children is very limited and we often forget they exist, but then again, this is a focus on Frank and April. There isn't anything wrong with the movie, it would just be viewed by the average movie-goer as "slow" or "dragging." In my opinion, it's intense and captivating. I would easily suggest this movie to anyone who likes "The Wrestler," "Benjamin Button" or "Forest Gump". Replay Value: 4 | July 7, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Mister Lonely - Unrated | Harmony Korine did this movie. What else did Harmony Korine do? Gummo. Freaking, Gummo. If you liked that, see this. If you want to keep your sanity, run away. Replay Value: 1 | July 7, 2009 | N/A | |||
| King Corn - Unrated | Fascinating and interesting, this documentary follows Ian Chenet and Curt Ellis on their venture to research corn. That's right, you heard me, corn. They dig back to their roots in Iowa they find one county they both have ties to and decide to spend an entire year devoted to growing an acre of corn. They battle governmental prices, neighbors, labor and what happens with their crop in this surprisingly informative, real documentary. I can say that anyone who enjoys the good documentary will definitely enjoy this film but also, anyone who is interested in health should also take a peek. It's well worth it. | The Tracey Fragments - R | This movie caught some heat for its editing style and multi-angle shots but I see that as experimental, not an inhibitor. It's experimental, sure, but who cares about this if the movie is solid? It's a little confusing at times but is resolved in the end. The story follows 15-year-old Tracey Berkowitz (Ellen Page) on her hunt to find her brother, Sonny. After escaping out the house, having to see a shrink, and connecting with a character with some deeper problems than expected, Tracey must decide for herself what is more important, her safety or her brother. It's a little rough at times so I'm not saying this should be a family film but what I am saying is that this movie is worth watching. Replay Value: 3 | July 7, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Pathology - R |
This movie came highly recommended to me. It's about murders. I hope that doesn't say something about me... ANYWAY This is a movie about forensic pathologists who like to add a little more work in their lives - by strategically killing random people and allowing their co-workers to try and figure out how. It's a "game" to them but a concern for Dr. Grey (Milo Ventimiglia), at first. As each character falls deeper and deeper into their own sinful nature it seems that there is only one road to redemption. I would have given this shocking tale four stars had the ending not been so cheesy but hey, what can you do? Make a better ending - that's what. You will like this movie if you want a better version of "Saw." Replay Value: 2 |

| Public Enemies - R | High hopes are once again semi-crushed. Michael Mann spends so much time trying to develop and exemplify John Dillinger (Depp) that he leaves out important details - plot, coherent editing, and progressive cinematography. Also, Depp and Bale should have played each other's roles, then maybe the characterization and scenes would have been evened out and allowed for a fluid progression of the story. In fact, in switching roles, the two characters would have been better portrayed. Mann must have loved old '30s mobster dramas because it seems that a large goal was to make this movie feel as authentic as possible. Well, I can definitely say that I didn't notice one "out of era" item. I did notice how this movie was lacking though, and you probably will too. Sure, it's worth seeing if you're just DYING to go to a movie but you may regret it. Replay Value: 2 | July 3, 2009 | N/A | |||
| The Rookie - G | July 1, 2009 | N/A | ||||
| Hancock - PG-13 | I will start by saying that this film did surprise me by the fact that it wasn't terrible.... if you can make it past the first 20-30 minutes. Within the first 2 minutes of the film Will Smith says "What'chu want a cookie?" and when that happened I decided I was out. There were several jokes that were racially appealing with mindless quotes that we've all heard before. When Jason Bateman entered the story however I became interested and it actually took my by surprise how well the story began to unfold. The acting became good and a plot developed and I realized, "I'm now watching a movie and not BET Def Jam Comedy anymore." I will agree with critic Will Crosswell, "If you think that you're gonna get a 'new kind of superhero' or walk away 'blown away,' then save your $10 and wait for The Dark Knight." Overall it's enjoyable but I don't really have a desire to see it again. | July 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Horton Hears a Who! - G | I love Dr. Seuss. In fact, I look down on those who don't. I believe that Dr. Seuss would have been very pleased with this film. It's funny, it's enjoyable, it's clean and most of all, it's imaginative and captivating. While it is very childish it will be hard to walk away from this film dissatisfied. | Frost/Nixon - R | If I had to choose one word to describe every aspect about this movie: superb. Superb directing, superb cinematography, superb acting, superb plots and dialogue, there is nothing about this movie that sells it short of one of the greatest films of 2008. Michael Sheen plays Frost in another stunning performance that rivals every Oscar nominated actor and if he keeps it up, I'll see every movie he's involved in. Frank Langella has a surprisingly resemblance in his astute characterization of our President. Ron Howard of course has every aspect under his total control and allows every scene to be perfect. The interviews are interesting and informative but I have on beef with it: not enough information was provided in the beginning. If you didn't know anything about President Nixon then you would find this movie confusing and boring. Thankfully, I watched this movie with my informed father (he's only informed because he's old and remembers all this jazz) but without him I would have had many questions. That's a mistake. Also, the other loss of half a star comes from the replay-ability of the movie. There is no arguing this movie's acclimations but as far as entertainment goes, this one is hardly worth a re-watch. At least not for a while. If you do know about Watergate and these Frost/Nixon interviews then you will without a doubt enjoy this movie from start to finish - it's impossible not to. | The House Bunny - PG-13 | Anna Faris returns as a voluptuous ex-Playboy bunny looking for a positive outlet for her... uh... talents. She decides to become the house mother for a failing sorority - if Zeta Tau Zeta doesn't get enough pledges by next semester they loose their house. Every girl, odd in their own way, combines their intelligence to come up with differing fund raisers, parties, and the like. As Shelley (Faris) learns what it's like to not be cool, ZTZ learns what it's like to fit the mold while still being an individual. I hate to call this a coming of age movie, so I won't. I will say this - the characters are dynamic. It's enjoyable if you're a teenage girl but if you like jokes then skip this movies. Sure it definitely had some funny parts, the ratio of not funny jokes to funny ones was easily 10:1 if not more. Replay Value: 2 | July 1, 2009 | N/A | |||

| Role Models - R | Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott) are co-workers as publicists for an energy drink... for a while. Once they run into some trouble, these two have to do 150 hours of community service in a month. They get placed with a Big Brother program with opposite kids. As they learn about the children and what it takes to be an adult, every character is dynamic. It's entertaining, really hilarious and surprisingly clean despite the language. And SWS isn't a total tool (congratulations big guy!) Overall, this really is a comedy that you want to see. I know I would again. Replay Value: 4 | July 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Fanboys - PG-13 | The year is 1998 and the anticipation for Episode 1 is raising the blood pressure of nerds everywhere, especially for Eric, Linus, Hutch and Windows. With contrasting personalities, these re-united best friends have one goal, let Linus see Episode 1 before his terminal illness claims him before the release date. On their journey to Skywalker Ranch, these guys run into all kinds of trouble including a meeting of an internet romance, hostile Trekies, William Shatner, an injury in which Carrie Fisher is the doctor, and much, much more. It's fun filled, hilarious and a good choice for anyone who likes Star Wars and nerd-esque humor. Replay Value: 3.5 | July 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Appaloosa - R | I cannot think of a western that has come out in 2000's that I don't like and this one is definitely in that category. It holds true to traditional western style and plot while adding a new element to the genre: drama. There is very little action in this wild, wild western and I love it. The chemistry between Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen continues to shine in this entertaining film. As a pair of hired guns the two men move into a town to protect it from the bad guys. Okay, nothing we haven't heard of before. What's this? An introduced romance? Alright, I can dig it. Whoa! Guns! Awesome! Oh man, this is intense... and fun! Appaloosa is a hit. | Zack and Miri Make a Porno - R | Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks in the same movie! Good. Kevin Smith directed this. Bad. Kevin Smith wrote this. Bad. It has traditional sex jokes? Seriously? Dad gum it. Lifelong friends Zack (Rogen) and Miri (Miri) look to solve their cash flow problems by recruiting a motley cast and crew to make an adult film. As the cameras roll, the duo discovers more about each other than expected. So did I - that this movie is marginal. Even with two of my favorite comedians in the script, they failed to make this movie astounding. Watchable and enjoyable, by all means; especially if it's boy's night in. | A Raisin in the Sun - Unrated | A made for TV movie based on a play. In fact, no screen play was ever written. This movie is basically a play (from an actual teleplay script) that has different angles - in more ways than one: the acting. My goodness. P. Diddy isn't my favorite artist but his ability to act? Totally predictable and marginally believable. In fact, the only one in this movie is none other then Phylicia Rashad from The Cosby Show. You might enjoy this film if you like plays, but I don't know if I can say that because I personally enjoy theater. Replay Value: 1 | July 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Year One - PG-13 | This sacrilegious "comedy" would have been atrociously unbearable without one thing: Michael Cera. He is the ONLY redemptive aspect of this film and yes, that means even Jack Black failed to deliver. Replay Value: 2 | July 1, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna) - PG-13 | I'm not racist but seriously, this Mexican flick is terrible. It's super cheesy, terrible directed and follows a "plot" with several loopholes. The extra half star comes from the fact that this is the best Mexican movie I've ever seen. Don't even bother. Replay Value: 1 | June 27, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Step Up 2 the Streets - PG-13 | When a rebelliously controlled student enrolls in the elite school of the arts, both her style and attitude clash forces with the already existing teams. Briana Evigan joins up with a team of outcasts and forms a killer dance team incorporating everyone's distinct style into the mix. The dancing is sweet, there is no doubt about that. The overly dramatic elements and unrealistic acting/dialogue are expected and ever pleasant. If you liked dancing movies, see this film. Replay Value: 2 | June 27, 2009 | N/A | |||
| Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead - Unrated | A fast food restaurant built on sacred Indian burial ground inadvertently unleashes a horde of vengeful, supernatural chicken zombie demons on the local population; gore-soaked social satire and horrific hi-jinks ensue. If you can make it past the first dull hour and 20 minutes, the final 20 are a hilarious blood bath. Be wary of singing, excessive nudity and "jokes" though. Actually, just run away.
