Young at Heart (Young@Heart) - PG Very inspirational and heart warming documentary. This flick follows a New England senior citizens choir as they continue to stay hip by singing contemporary hits. Starting out with a deliciously cute version of The Clash's "Should I Stay Or Should I Go," this film had me hooked on how delightful these soon to be well developed characters are. The documentary style is classic, the interviews pertinent, the subject lovable, the process adorable and memorable. I found myself delighted with this film and would easily watch it again, let alone watch the rest of their musik videos! Hands down it's awesome and I would suggest it to anyone who likes documentaries. December 8, 2008

Naissance des Pieuvres (Water Lilies) - Unrated First off: It's French. If you know French movies, this one fits the cut. There is random nudity and casual sex through and through. The story is somewhat pertinent to the fact of the stress of being one's self at an early age. Accepting people for who they are while still being yourself is the struggle shown through this flick but it is not done so in a way that makes you realize the struggle. The acting is sufficient, the soundtrack of no worthy remembrance, and cinematography nothing of note. The only thing good about this movie is the fact that the setting was perfect for each scene. The fact of the matter is that this movie is nothing more than Sciamma's attempt at exemplifying a struggle. Granted learning the lesson of keeping your true friends is one to know but making the audience sit through pointless character, non redeeming character development is not the way to inform. I would not watch this movie again and I don't even suggest it to anyone who doesn't like French cinema. December 8, 2008

Man on the Moon - R I went into this movie knowing nothing of Andy Kaufman other than his name. As I watched the social deconstruction and personal genius flow from Jim Carey's accurate portrayal of Kaufman I realized what I had been missing. A new kind of humor that makes more sense to me than any other kind, Andy Kaufman opened my eyes to laughs. This movie is awesome and it is all thanks to the life and times of Andy. Each scene was a better depiction than the last with the finale tying the greatest joke of all time together. For anyone who likes anti-comedy, this is a must see. November 21, 2008

For the Bible Tells Me So - Unrated A typical documentary style which explores the reasoning behind the idea that "homosexuality is an abomination." Very valid points from both sides and interviewed people whom you don't mind listening to. It is overall a good documentary but I would only suggest this one to a person who can sit through a documentary and handle the idea that they might be wrong. Or if you are a Mennonite. If you can do that (or are a Mennonite) then I'd say sure, go ahead. Overall: I won't be watching it again. November 11, 2008

Saw V - R Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. This movie is so terrible. In case you guys don't remember, I've been a SOMEWHAT fan of the "Saw"s. As far as modern gore/horror goes, they aren't bad. As far as movies go... well... Anyways, let's tear this sucker apart. The acting - worst so far (which is saying something for a modern horror), the story - TOTALLY lacking, the twist - wait... wait what?, the screenplay - cheesy and lame, it almost took away from the "movie", finally, the gore (the supposedly whole reason you see this movie) - let me just go ahead and say it: "There is practically none in this 'blood bath.'" If I'm going to see this movie because I liked the other ones and want to be grossed out then that's exactly what I want. I want muscles on the ground, blood on the lens and people screaming in the theater. Not this bull! Don't waste your money, please. I know I gave "Meet The Spartans" a lame review but that is just because I didn't personally like that humor. This movie actually deserves its rating (a generous one at that). Did I enjoy the other "Saw"s - overall, yes. Did I enjoy this movie - I have blocked it from my memory it is so terrible. November 11, 2008

The Dark Knight - PG-13 **SPOILER REVIEW**
Okay, granted, this is the best superhero movie to date. Congratulations. Yet as a movie itself I found myself wanting more. Not wanting more as in I want more LOTR but wanting more to make it a better movie. Granted to story is amazing, the acting is above par and the directing is dark... again. I'm sure I would have liked this movie more if I could have seen it but then again he is "The Dark Knight" so where's my argument? It's definitely worth seeing if you liked "Batman Begins" or even any of the other installments and also if you just want to be entertained for two and a half hours. I know it didn't feel that long at all but it seemed as if there was too much story for too short a movie... also (SPOILER) Two-Face dying???? I mean come on! All that foreshadowing for only 20 minutes of infamy? Poor choice with that one Nolan. I guess overall it's great and Heath Ledger is amazing, does that sum it up enough?

Iron Man - PG-13 Okay let's look at the good here: Robert Downey Jr. is back and rocking, the suit looked awesome, the dialogue made it seem a tad bit real in the style of the characters talking over each other and just seeming real, Gwneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard, sweet cheesy super hero lines. If you are looking for a powerful superhero movie with substance and meaning, a movie with complex characters who learn their lesson in the end, or a movie that has actually good CGI, look elsewhere. If you're looking to be entertained, "Iron Man" is without a doubt a great choice. November 11, 2008

Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - R Your typical sex jokes with lots of "weed is cool" messages. I will admit that the final scene with President Bush smoking the blunt was pretty durn funny. Other than that it's just so-so. In all actuality, that scene may only have seemed funny in retrospect to the rest of the humorless comedy. Oh well, a bust in my opinion but if you liked the first one or you like the whole sex-comedy series then you'd like it. November 11, 2008

Shotgun Stories - PG-13 Weird, weird movie. This one takes 100% of it's approach on the conflict of everyday characters. There is moderate, everyday struggle, average characters and witty screenplay. It's well edited and an overall enjoyable movie. I don't know if I'd suggest it to EVERY one but for anyone who can actually appreciate a movie's attempt, it's worth watching. November 11, 2008

Fireproof - PG Okay so I know you're supposed to look past the terrible acting, emotionless cinematography and lacking script/story for the deeper message but let me save you the trouble. Christ saves and keep your marriage healthy by being selfless. There, now you won't waste your time or money and you get the message they were trying to convey. November 11, 2008

Pineapple Express - R My expectations for this movie were pretty high since I would laugh out loud every time I saw the previews so needless to say, I went into this one with open expectations. Let me be the first to say, while it may not have met them exactly, it definitely lived up to my hype. Take your typical stoner movie, actually make it funny, add ridiculous fight sequences and wonderful acting and you've got "Pineapple Express." It's awesome. I'd easily watch this over-the-top action/comedy again and I hope (those of you who don't mind this kind of humor or language) will too. November 11, 2008

Smart People - R An amusing movie with clever, memorable characters. The uncle is by far the funniest character; I wished I'd have thought of him first. Ellen Page is great as always and Dennis Quaid does surprisingly good as a prude. This movie will entertain you so if that is what you're looking for then I would suggest this one. October 10, 2008

Run Fatboy Run - PG-13 This movie is obviously intelligently written through and through. There are no wasted scenes nor does any scene not contain at least one joke. I was snickering the whole movie and would easily watch this one again. If you aren't familiar with Simon Pegg (Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz) it is never too late to start. I will say this: It's British. So if you don't like British humor then steer clear. BUT if you do then you can't afford to miss this one. October 10, 2008

Son of Rambow - PG-13 This movie finalized my theory that British people just all around funnier than Americans. This movie is intelligent, creative, unprecedented and well worth your time. The acting is both terrible and great but overall exactly what the director wanted so I liked that aspect. The editing is nice and the sound acceptable. The dialogue is this movie's key to success. Well written with non-stop references and intelligent comedy, Son Of Rambow is one of the best comedies of 2008. October 9, 2008

Batman Gotham Knight - Unrated "Animatrix" meets Batman. This unique piece of art is divided into 6 short animated films. Each film is somewhat tied to the others yet each are very different in action, story, animation and theme. It is very interesting to watch and holds your attention through and through. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes anime(esque) film and who likes Batman. I'd certainly watch it again with someone who liked the two. October 4, 2008
