Speed Racer - PG Oh my word. This is by far the most visually stimulating film of the past decade. It's shocking, captivating, funny and extremely over the top. The Wachowski brothers did a wonderful job of keeping the Japanese cartoon influence in the live-action adaptation. I was laughing, screaming and rolling my eyes at this movie and would do it all over again. Granted the dialogue is super cheesy and the acting subpar but the visuals and overall delivery makes up for that which lacks. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to be entertained and doesn't get motion sick. September 28, 2008

Never Back Down - PG-13 With choppy editing and sappy characters, this movie left me laughing at some points and cringing at others... although I don't know if I was supposed to be experiencing those emotions at the given scenes. The characters, especially Cam Gigandet's, were sappy and over exaggerated and the editing was poor and slightly distracting. However, the sound and visuals were quite mastered. I was happy to see the "x-ray bone" shot done again and the music fade stay with the soundtrack. Overall, if you're looking to be entertained and literally nothing more, watch this film. If you're looking for substance, just watch a UFC match then watch "Fight Club." Actually, just go watch "Fight Club" anyways. September 28, 2008

Eagle Eye - PG-13 If you're looking to be entertained for two hours then this movie is for you. It's overall a surprising movie. I will admit that the character development was a little lacking and the story seemed a tiny bit rushed. Yet for a movie of this caliber that wasn't looking to do anything more than capture the audience, it is overall a solid film. I will admit that, while I understood the concept behind the twist, I believe it needed a bit more explanation. September 28, 2008

Otis - Unrated Let me begin by saying, "Daniel Stern is hilarious." That being said let me also say, "There is no reason to watch this movie." It starts out creepy with quirky comments to "lighten" the mood, continues to be creepy, then just goes nuts on itself with gore and a psychotic family. Just hearing what the family talks about is disgusting enough but still, there is no reason to watch this movie - there is no redeeming value and it is not entertaining. Sure it has its funny parts (as all comedies do) but the ridiculous cinematography and first hour are just too average to like this movie. I wouldn't watch it again nor would I suggest it to anyone unless you just love dirty, gross, violence "jokes." Even still - watch a Simon Pegg movie if you're into that. His are actually good. 21 - PG-13 I will admit that the idea of this movie is pretty cool since it is based on a true story and I was glad to see Jim Strugess in a better role than the opportunities given last year. I will say that this movie is nothing special. There is hardly any character development, nothing special in the cinematography department nor in the transitions. To be honest the editing is pretty bad. Overall this movie lacks any reason to keep you entertained unless you want to see Spacey rock another role (even if it did feel like a repeat). Jack and Jill vs. the World - PG-13 I must say that I'm glad to finally see Freddie Prinze Jr. in a decent role but I just know that there is something that we are missing in his career. Yet overall this movie is not half bad. Anyone looking for a good love story would more than likely like this one. Granted from a critics stand point there is much to be desired but overall, if you are looking for an entertaining love story that does not require any attachment, this is your movie. Quid Pro Quo - R I must say that I was VERY intrigued with the idea behind this movie. The idea of a paralyzed man discovering an underground ring of wanna-be paraplegics sounds like an emotional roller coaster. I was disappointed that this was only a small part of the movie and that it mainly focused on the main character's relationship with one of these wanna-bes. Granted it was still a wild philosophy and way of life so it was still entertaining. From a cinematic stand point there is not anything too impressive here although the editing is superb. There are, however, holes left unfilled and unexplained characters. Overall, it's average; a good drama with it's flaws and merits. September 9, 2008

The Evil Dead - NC-17 There is no other rating that this movie can receive without taking into account the actual cinematic/acting/directing elements of the movie. This bloody, shriek-fest is worth seeing for any horror movie lover. September 1, 2008

Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs - Unrated I will admit that I am a pretty big Futurama fan so I'm a little biased towards this one. The comedy is non-stop and the story line flows well despite the many dysfunctional aspects. If you like Futurama, or any of the animated-comedy shows, then you will like this one. August 30, 2008

Meet the Spartans - PG-13 I somewhat wanted to give this film a one star rating but I can't bring myself to do it. I will say however, despite the fact that I didn't like this movie (at all), it was good for what it was trying to be: a dumb, get rich movie. I'm going to do this review in a pro/con style.
Pro: Surprisingly good acting
Cons: Horrible story line, way too many penis/homosexual jokes, wasn't funny.... at all, lame action sequences and obvious 3 day film timeline. Overall it was a terrible movie by my standards but if you like dumb humor, want to be "entertained" and care nothing for a quality film then look no further.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - PG I must admit that I knew going into this movie that I would regret it and within the first 5 minutes my suspicions were assured. I must also admit that I have no respect for George Lucas anymore and will be incredibly hesitant to see his next film regardless of the affiliate. Granted he only co-wrote and produced this one but he still allowed it to happen. Not only that but the dialogue was one of the worst parts of the film. Any sane person who saw Episode I, II, and III remembers how terrible the acting and dialogue was. Well imagine all the terrible lines they cut and you've got 80% of the lines for this movie adapted to the Clone Wars Era. That leads me to my next point, why pick this era? Why even make it animated? I will admit that I watched the animated volumes back in 2003 and actually enjoyed them but this was painful. Another aspect that deducted was the fact that Samuel L. Jackson was the only returning voice and he only has 4 lines in the whole movie. I will also say that maybe this movie actually deserves 2 stars but the extra half-star loss comes from the fact that this movie officially ruins the franchise. How can Lucas not realize that the past 3 episodes were nothing more than average and even less than that at times? If you ask me, don't even bother with any of them except for the original three. I know I'll never suggest any of the new ones again. Shame on you George Lucas and as for Dave Filoni (the director), you just see if I ever see another of your movies. I know one thing is for certain, no way am I watching the soon-to-follow animated TV series. August 24, 2008

Futurama: Bender's Big Score - PG Granted I'm a pretty big Futurama fan but even still, any fan of animated comedy is going to like this one. Whether it be for the multiple pop culture references, Al Gore's cameo during which he bashes his delivery methods or the fact that time traveling is made possible because of a tattoo on Fry's butt, any comedy fan is going to like this one. I'd watch it again anyways. August 19, 2008

Fool's Gold (Fools Gold) - PG-13 So it's official, I don't like Matthew McConaughey. If you like the role McConaughey plays in everything he always does then you'll probably like this one too. As for myself, the average acting and annoying characters made me like this movie less and less as it went on. The jokes weren't funny but at least we got to see Malcolm-Jamal Warner back in action and with a Jamaican accent none the less! Overall, you can skip this one. August 18, 2008

Taken - PG-13 For an action movies this one isn't bad at all. Sure there needs to be more character development and better editing for a more fluid story and scene transitions, but overall it's still worth a watch. There are multiple captivating action events, both believable and non-believable. Several of the events made me cover my mouth and scream a little so that's always fun. Worth watching especially if you're a fan of movies and are looking for a decent action flick. August 16, 2008

Scenes of a Sexual Nature - R Since I am a big fan of movies that drop you right in the middle of someone's life I will admit I was a little biased towards this one because it does just that but to seven couples. It's worth seeing if it's on TV or something but I don't know if I'd really suggest this one. It's good just only to a limited viewing audience. August 15, 2008

Everything's Jake - Unrated I must admit that this movie exceeded my expectations and provided me with a laugh filled story with above average character development. Of course there are several aspects that needed to be address and some loose ends that were never tied up but in the end, it's a good story with enough resolution to leave the audience pleased. Step Brothers - R Okay let me track this movie for you: It starts out strong and in your face (awesome), it slowly dies down story wise but the joke continue to roll (understand able for a comedy) then it sucks (hard) and doesn't pick back up until 40 minutes later only to finish well below how it started (yet still strongly enough). So if you are looking for a movie with no plot and cheap, dirty jokes (that you can hear just by hanging out with your dirty friend that thinks he's always HILARIOUS) then have at it. If you want a real comedy with depth and quotable lines then skip this one. I will add however that this is the best Ferrel movie in a while so at least it's a step in the right direction? D2: The Mighty Ducks - PG Since I'm 100% that we've all seen this movie I won't waste my time with attempting to quote the entire movie and just right down to it. This movie is a personal favorite of mine since the first time I saw it. Don't let the fact that I only gave it 4 stars negate from the fact that I'm rating the movie, not how much I liked it. It's hard not to love such an incredibly exciting, hilarious, lovable story with star actors like Emilio Estevez and the bash brothers. Watch this film if you haven't and if you have, watch it again. In fact, I'm going to go watch it again right now for the 3rd time today. August 12, 2008

Heavy Metal in Baghdad - R I must admit that I was really taken with this particular documentary. I'm a big fan of documenting every day people and that is exactly what this one is about. Not only is about every day people who consist of the only heavy metal band in Baghdad but of the scene in the surrounding areas and the war itself. Granted we all know about the massive destruction that has taken place over there but it was nice to see cited facts in a way that focuses on how it affects the local people, not America's report. It's basically average but if you like heavy metal and want to learn about the war then this one is all for you man. August 10, 2008
