from my blog http://jtfmulder.tumblr.com/post/31217292 The Ruins -- quickee review I was in the mood to see a movie after eating out. I went shopping for DVDs and saw a sticker on the deluxe two-disc version of Sweeney Todd that said free ticket for The Ruins inside, or so I thought. However, that?s a whole other story. The Ruins is an interesting variation on the ?don?t go to the forbidden place? story. It reminds me of when the movie theaters used to show double features. You would see an ?A? picture with major stars and a large advertising budget and a ?B? picture with not-so-major or lesser known stars. Well, The Ruins is a ?B? picture, in my opinion. Two couples of college-age American students go on vacation in Mexico. At their hotel, they meet some people who convince them to go spend a day checking out ruins that are off the beaten path in the Yucatan province of Mexico. Of course, things don?t meet their expectations. Once they make it to the ruins, just about anything that can go wrong does. I give The Ruins my rating of ?wait for cable?, but it?s still worth watching. It has a few surprises. I didn?t want to give anything away, but the poster might give you a hint. |
