John Carpenter's best! true horror classic! my favorite horror film - EVER! on my top 10 all time favorite list! the first of the slasher films - and the absolute best of them - period! i love how you rarely see micheal directly; he always seems to appear in the periphery or in the background. that shadowy effect of him just barely being out of sight is what helps the scary effect of micheal (which is rarely seen, if at all, in the sequels).

call me biased, but this is truly a masterpiece of a horror film! I'm a HUGE fan of clive barker! this was his directorial debut, and he didn't disappoint! he wrote the story, which is based on one of HIS own novellas, "the hellbound heart" (i highly recommend this book!) this movie is as a beautiful display of horror as it is terryfying! clive barker = horror genius in every sense of the word!
