There is a secret new age army who uses paranormal abilities to defeat the enemy instead of weapons. Bob (Ewan) is a reporter who follows Lyn (George) to write a story about the new army. Kevin Spacey plays the bad guy and Jeff Bridges a hippie / army leader. It is very funny especially the dancing scene. It has dark humour like Burn After Reading without the witty lines. If you liked Burn After Reading, this is a close second cousin in humour. Good cast. Bonkers storyline but entertaining.

Freaky. I love the acting, directing, and silence instead of music. Creepy. Very well done.

This animation is about a group of 9 fabric characters who are the last survivors on earth. The earth has been destroyed by machines that have taken over the world and they are killing everything in sight. Number 9, the last of the fabric characters convinces the others to destroy the machines rather than live in fear and hiding. Good animation. Quite dark, not suitable for young children.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
    by Candy
This is the last movie that Heath Ledger made and he died during the filming. The director wasn't going to finish the movie, but with the help of Heath's fellow actor friends - Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell the story was complete. Set in London a travelling show invites people to enter the imaginarium of Dr Parnassus through the mirror. People follow their dreams but in order to do so, they unknowingly give up their souls to the devil. Great cast. If you like fantasies like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Alice and Wonderland, you will enjoy this movie with more adult themes.

This movie is shot like a documentary following a group of teenagers from their auditions to their graduation from the Performing Arts school in New York. It is not as wholesome as High School Musical, nor is it as gritty as the original Fame movie. The music is modern and relevant for today's reality TV addicts.

It's good to see Kate and Matthew back together. They are a divorced couple who wound up together to look for lost treasure before the baddies get hold of it. Matthew gets beaten up a lot. It reminds me of 'The Mexican' (hopeless male and exasperated female). Good cast. Average plot.

"The following is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. Especially you Jenny Beckman. Bitch."

I actually LOVE this film! I was so impressed with pretty much all aspects. I thought Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel were perfect together, it had a great soundtrack, and I loved how it was directed - it had a non-naturalistic tone that was stable throughout (and so the dance scene in the middle didn't seem out of place!) and this just made it all the more interesting. It was also just really funny, I laughed so much during the film. I think Marc Webb really cleverly pulled off a story that could have been depressing and full of self pity. It kept the humour all the way through and was surprisingly feel-good. And even though happy endings might seem cliched, I'm glad this ended on a good note - although I'm also glad that it wasn't a predictable good note.

    And just, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Ahh.

Carl and Ellie are best friends from childhood. They get married and move into a lovely house. The next part is sad. Many years pass and Carl is forced out of his home by developers, so he ties thousands of ballons to the house and sets off for Paradise Falls in South America. There he meets his lifetime hero who iss hunting a very rare bird. I love the characters - Russell (boy scout) and Doug (dog). Good plot, although sad in parts, it is funny and an uplifting movie.

    Surrogates Surrogates
    by Candy
This movie is a bit like iRobot. People use robots / surrogates to live their daily lives. They operate the surrogates from home and experience the outside world through the surrogates. That why they can do their jobs efficiently, create beautiful images of themselves and they do not experience danger or illness. However the people start to die as their surrogates meet tragic deaths. Bruce is the FBI agent who solves who is behind these crimes. Good plot.

Oh where to begin. So many cliches - the mysterious fighter who turns out to be a beautiful woman - I'm sorry but give me a break. It makes me chuckle and there were several parts that made me chuckle. I guess I'll say that it was a passable effort. The action was okay but the villains sucked, Colin Firth, as good as he can be, was not right for that role and Ben Kingsley tried to make the best out of what he was given. Aaahh well. You never know till you watch them all.

Great cast. Based on a true story where a columnist (Robert) writes a column on a homeless man (Jamie) who was a talented celloist. The movie sees Robert trying to get Jamie back into ordinary society. It deals very sensitively with mental health issues. Good movie.

Good cast but quite a dark story. Michael (Ryan Reynolds) is an author who returns to his family and hometown to celebrate his mother's college graduation. However, his mother Lisa (Julia Roberts) is killed in a car accident. The family are forced together to prepare for the funeral. Painful memories of his relationship with his father and his aunt are brought up. Only problem - you feel for the characters but it doesn't explain what all the family secrets are.

Finally the original characters reunite. Brian (Paul Walker) is now in the FBI and Dom (Vin Diesel) is up to his old tricks of hijacking cargo. When Lettie is murdered Brian and Dom work together to find her killer and bring down a drug baron in Mexico. Out of the all of the movies, this has the more in depth storyline but all I wanted to see was the car racing, which it is renown for. Instead of the usual Fast & Furious car racing, this becomes another car chase action movie. Good storyline but could have had more car racing.

To anyone who has already seen this movie, I apologize. I checked to see if any of you had rated it, and the people I recommended it to hadn't yet.

I almost never use the recommendation function, because it's overused to the extent of annoyance.

However, this film calls for an exception. If I can convince even one person to take in this piece of art, I'll be happy.
    Tetro Tetro
    by Mike
This is a transcendent piece of art that verifies the status of a master storyteller. The exquisite marriage of sound and imagery is far from being its only achievement, despite the critical responses. Coppola has been exploring the dynamics and complexities of family relationships throughout the course of his career, and he may have brought perfect closure here. He is a brave artist who disregards the confines of commercial American moviemaking and infuses his masterpiece with something as original as it is exciting. Vincent Gallo is someone whose work I am fairly unfamiliar with, but he delivers an Oscar-worthy, enigmatic piece of acting here that blew me away. The rest of the players are ideally cast as well, with Maribel Verdú holding her own opposite Gallo. This is a haunting, heart-wrenching cinema experience that needs to be seen. It pains me that a mediocre work like Inglourious Basterds gets praised to death while a legend's return to form is ignored. See this film.

Excellent. Clint Eastwood is incredible in both directing and acting. Every character is brought to life. The story leads you to a powerful and emotional ending. Bee Vang and Ahney Her performed well and not to take away from them but Clint's character is the movie. His development and completion is what makes the final actions so worthy. Powerful.

A crazy, quirky movie that's for sure. Sandra made the movie though and she made Mary lovable and not just weird. There were some hilarious parts and then there were some not so great parts. Overall it was just quirky. That's my word for the day. Wished I could have seen more "craziness" from Ken Jeong. A lot of potential for some great comedy there. Loved the comment about stalkers at the end..."If you love someone set them free. If you have to stalk them they're probably not yours." Or something to that effect. And I especially loved the point about the media. They lie. You go girl!
