Is it too early in his directing career to anoint Jason Reitman the next Hal Ashby? He treats his characters with such respect and tenderness. I really loved this sad, sweet, funny, lonely film.
I'm now going to type a few sentences that I never thought would ever be written. Mariah Carey can act. Mo'Nique deserves an oscar. Crazy, right? Everyone in this film is great, and it's not quite as hopeless as you might think.
This was a very sweet little movie. I'm not convinced that Kristen Stewart can play more than one emotion yet, but it worked fine for this and all the rest of the cast was quite good. This really caught the feeling of that in-between place of summers around college for me. And wow do I want to play skeeball now.
Two stars for kinda bad acting and not great script. Five stars for shirtless eye candy. Minus two stars for that ridiculous lipstick. I think that equals three?
Gorgeously filmed, and packs quite an emotional punch. It perfectly captures the feelings of loneliness and yearning while still being fun and ultimately hopeful. New best line ever? "That was my favorite arm."
