A 65-ft.-wide screen and 500 people reacting to the movie, there is nothing like that experience. - Michael Mann

My purpose is to make films that will help people to live, even if they sometimes cause unhappiness. - Andrei Tarkovsky

A director is a man, therefore he has ideas; he is also an artist, therefore he has imagination. Whether they are good or bad, it seems to me that I have an abundance of stories to tell. And the things I see, the things that happen to me, continually renew the supply. - Michelangelo Antonioni

Fantastic debut from Nolan! Black and white film-noir with twists and turns. He uses his trade mark, non-linear editing, perfectly in his first film. The story is interesting and pulls you right in. Non-profesional acting is quite good, too.

There is a "batman" sign on the door of the lead character's house. It's funny that now, 10 years later, the director made the phenomenal Dark Knight.

Firstly, yea this is a recommendation for Blue, or any other Kieslowski work for that matter, which brings me to the point.
I've been back and forth with some of the people who run flixster who say they will not add the Decalogue to their list of films because their sources classify it is a television show.

If you've seen the Decalogue, or know anything about it, you know that yes it was broadcast on polish television in ten episodes akin to a mini-series of sorts. However, you also know that it was intended as one overarching project, not a television show. The Decalogue IS a film, its a film in ten parts. It's also one of the greatest works of film art ever created. It is a travesty that they will not add this masterpiece to the list of films on here.
Flixster is a great place to share films, and anyone who loves film, has a mild interest in it, or even just happens to be alive and privy to a television set should see it. Please write the folks here to get this masterpiece added

A nice and elegant vengeance. Belmondo gives another fine performance, and the whole setting was quite accurate and pretty. Even though it's a little bit slow, it's still quite enjoyable.

I can see why some of my friends gave it one star and some gave 5. It's an original story that is filled with holes. There are too many coincidences for one story. Somebody should tell the writers "one or two coincidences are ok, hey it happens in the real life too right, but a million of them look fucking stupid in one story!" I am angry because this movie could be much better. The direction is good and stylized, the acting is very well balanced, the story really gets to your emotiions but god damn those plot holes! I was like this: Oh it started quite good...oh this is fucking stupid!...wait a minute, we may have somethin here...give me a break... Then came the great ending with a Coldplay song. I had to give it at least a three!

I've seen Paul McGuigan's two movies, this and Lucky Number Slevin, it looks like he is trying to shoot modern hitchcockian movies and Josh Hartnett is his James Stewart.
if you can get past some stupid parts in the story, there is a big possibility thay you are going to love this..

A movie so terrible I'm not even going to review it.
Seriously, this is garbage on the lowest level. It exists for two reasons only: 1) the purpose of plugging a tv series; and 2) making money of Star Wars fans/suckers.

The original Star Wars is a franchise that really succeeded early on because we thought its campiness and silliness was deliberate. With the prequels we saw that perhaps Lucas just couldn't write, either that or the actors couldn't pull it off. Whatever the case, he somewhat redeemed himself with the decent Revenge of the Sith, only to totally alienate and exploit his fans with this absolute piece of trash. Its lazy, poorly animated, and dead in the water. The voice acting brings phoning it in to a whole new level.
I advise everyone to stay away from this. I saw this for free and I still feel ripped off. Please, let the franchise die with what dignity it has left. Don't give Lucas and company your money for this lazy schlock.

1989, the end of the cold war, the berlin wall is coming down, and what do a platoon of american soldiers do when there isnt a war to fight, but stuck in a foreign country, west germany in this case. they create there own, joaquin phoenix plays such a guy, living off the wealth he makes from dodgy deals hes making on the side with his team of loyal followers, and with no war going on, ed harris colonal, maybe either to dumb to notice or letting things go by. its when higher authority played by scott glen turns up, and makes out whats happening from the get go, with a higher and more risky deal on the cards, and his romance with the colonals daughter will things get to deep for phoenix. a look at the u.s army as a bunch or no clue, doped up, or bored g.is, in a situation where is there is no war and nothing to do, not sheding a good light, and when released just after 911, suffered for it, a razor sharp script, and a well observed drama both at the time and situations involved, all actors, phoenix, glen, panquin, and ed harris stand up well, but also the minor roles, especially michael pena, some great scenes of great acting, and a centrepice involving a tank on rampage is a highlight, a cracking film showing obserdaty of war when theres no war

great film from spike lee, his best, a very hot day and racial tensions that arise throughout, especially between sal, his two sons, and the pizza place they own in a black neighbourhood, we follow mook, played here by spike lee, as he works for sal, and living hids day on the street. nice direction throughout, showing great style for lee, a film that helped black cinema from the 80s into the 90s, with a lot of moral, racial issues brought up throughout

dicaprio in a early role which makes it along side whats eating gilbert grape and this boys life as the films that showed the up and coming talent of the young actor, along with his buddies spending there time in newyork, and going to catholic school, but spending there time getting high, and getting into all sorts of trouble, its when his dealings with drugs and the effects of that, that will change his life around, decaprio getting loads of great scenes to chew on, playing a torchured lad, showing a full range of emotions, getting into the head of a drug addict well, from the first signs, and quick escalation into petty crime, and more. also fine support from mark warlberg as his best mate, the story which is based on a real life charactor, who as seen in film, wrote diarys of his life, is well told, with a real edgy feel, and a great example like requirem for a dream, on drug use in a young lads life

This was by far,the most disturbing film I've seen in years..an unflinching documentation of a couple of "Leopold & Loeb"-like psychopaths humiliating, terrorizing, and then murdering their victims..the "rewind" scene really f_cks with the vigilante instinct in(presumably) all of us..I cheered, then almost put my fist through the screen.Since Alex DeLarge,I have not seen more loathsome characters on screen..there's no justice, just this inexorable,post-modern evil having its way..something very "clinical" about it(maybe it's those gloves).Sounds weird, but I don't know if I can even call it a movie..it's a flat enactment of nasty reality,so recommending it is tough. This ain't no popcorn movie. If you liked "In The Bedroom","A Clockwork Orange","Cul-De-Sac",then you can probably hack this.
