300 (2007,  R)
300
Quite honestly, the best movie I've seen in my short life. Visually breath-taking. An epic to be enjoyed for many generations to come. The ONLY thing that's stopping me from giving this film a perfect rating are a few snags in the script. Other than that ONE thing, this movie's perfect.

Lord of War (2005,  R)
Lord of War
Love Nicholas Cage's narration of the movie as the film went along. The film's whole "novel" feel really appealed to me since I"m ADDICTED to books. Incredibly smooth and cohesive story progression, awesome story and the entire cast was just superb.
3
Sin City (2005,  R)
Sin City
An incredible movie. Who ever started the trend of adapting graphic novels into the big sreen was a genius. Although there were a few actors in the film who were utterly forgettable, as a a whole, the movie was just expertly done. The tragic love affair between Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba just tore my heart out. Great acting from Mickey Rourke (even if he was only supposed to play a brute). And Elijah Wood as a mute killer for hire was just downright frightening.
4
The Matrix (1999,  R)
The Matrix
This movie literally came out of nowhere. With a title like The Matrix, what more can one educe from it than it could just be a simple sci fi movie. I wasn't really expecting anything when I went ahead and watched the movie at my uncle's one fateful day. But, after I watched it, I was utterly convinced that The Matrix is THE BEST sci-fi movie of all time. First-off, I've never seen a cast work so perfectly well with each other in any other action/sci-fi movie I've ever seen in my life than in this one. I definately applaud Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Carrie Anne Moss for their superb perfomances in this film. Next, the Wachowski Brothers were able elevate the quality of special effects into such hieghts that no one ever thought possible. The incredible special effects executed in this film has, for me, never been duplicated in any film even up to this day (But 300 sure got pretty damn close!). Lastly, the film was just visually perfect and the premise for it literally pushes the boundary of creative genius. Truly, this film has become a standard where almost all films can be measured

Mozart and the Whale (2005,  PG-13)
Mozart and the Whale
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!
The way the movie translates itself to me as how love can exist despite any circumstance is just beautiful. I can absolutely relate to this movie. And such great acting from Josh Hartnet and Radha Mitchell!! This movie will always be one of the best movies for me of all time

Last Life in the Universe (2004,  R)
Last Life in the Universe
Love this movie. The movie's director is a complete genius, with his techniques from making the film interchange smoothly from a "glossy" to an indie movie as the story line progressed to choosing to make the actors speak biligually.

Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi) (2001,  PG)
Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi)
Even if I was only able to see this movie on DVD just once, I never forgot about it. It's such a good movie. It was very Alice in Wonderland (which means that the premise of the classic is universal.). Chihiro is such an endearing character & Hayao Miyazaki proves
himself once again to be a great director.
I wonder why I've never heard of him ever do live films? Has he? Hhmmm...

Lust, Caution (Se jie) (2007,  R)
Lust, Caution (Se jie)
Incredibly beautiful and heart wrenchingly poignant movie. There is simply nothing more that can be said about this movie. Just terrific
9
V for Vendetta (2006,  R)
V for Vendetta
This is such a great movie! Hugo Weaving as V was just a casting stroke of genuis. Who would've thought a guy who wears a mask through out an entire film could have so much onscreen emotion? Natalie Portman as Evey was just incredible. Such vulnerablity! Great script, great cast, great cinematography, great everything. THE ONLY THING that stops this thing from being utterly perfect is the storyline's timing. I mean, c'mon, does the movie REALLY feel like the story went on for a year?
10
Constantine (2005,  R)
Constantine
A lot of people might possibly disagree but, personally, I feel that this is a great film. To begin with, the whole "occult" feel of the film appeals to me greatly. Next off, the ENTIRE cast played well with each other onscreen. But personally, I think that it were Tilda Swinton and Peter Stormare who gave the best performances in this movie. Visually, the movie was very engaging, the plot progression well executed, and the script very well-written-done with just the right amounts of dark humour, the sense of the profound, realism, and as well as surrealism. Whether how many times I say this, I can not stress it enough: who ever started the trend of adapting graphic novels to the big screen was a complete genius.
11
Sweet November (2001,  PG-13)
Sweet November
I'm sorry, but I just LOVE this movie! Personally, I feel that Charlize Theron COMPLETELY steals the movie. I don't know where the side story about the kid factors in to benifit the storyline but, as a whole, the story is just great. Up to now, I still don't know what really happened to Charlize in the end.

Léon (The Professional) (1994,  R)
Léon (The Professional)
I saw this movie when I was just a little kid and I never forgot about it. The movie is just incredible. The restrained yet palpable affair between Jean Reno and the young Natalie Portman is so real and vulnerable, it literally endears you to them to no end. On the other hand, Gary Oldman as the villian was just down right scary.
13
The Fountain (2006,  PG-13)
The Fountain
Incredible movie. I commend the director's successful and intrepid attempt to translate onto the screen a story that literally went three ways at the same time. Next, the movie was just so beautiful visually. I just love the touch of gold that almost every scene had. Not only that, the heart wrenching and near perfect performances from Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz were just awesome. On a personal note, I feel that this is the best performance of Hugh Jackman's entire career at this point in time. Lastly, I know people are griping about how deeply complex the story line of this film was. To be honest, I'll have to admit that it was. Be that as it may, the director was obviously challenging the viewer to put in more effort into understanding the story; a challenging I was personally willing to accept.
14
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005,  PG-13)
Memoirs of a Geisha
One of the most beautiful movies I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Story wise, the structure was flawless, the story progression expertly executed and the visuals and cinematography truly were a spectacular feast for the eyes. In terms of the performances of the cast, the director spared none in casting an all star Asean cast. In doing so, the movie was further elevated by such splendid and unforgettable performances from each and eveyone of the actors, most especially the three main actresses. Lastly, the ending was just heart-wrenchingly wonderful. This movie should already be considered a classic

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004,  R)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I was completely floored by how well Jim Carrey fared in this film. Personally, I think that he should capitalize more on this type of acting. Aside from that, I never would've guessed that he and Kate Winslet would gel so well together. Aside from the excellent performances of the two main actors, I just love the visuals and special effects of this movie. Lastly, the whole premise of the movie was so fresh and genius.

Notes on a Scandal (2006,  R)
Notes on a Scandal
Incredible movie. I've always been drawn to films that lean towards more psychologically provocative issues. This movie is one of the best in this arena. The story was just so unbelievably beautiful and chilling, it pulls hard on your emotions on so many levels. The solid structuring of the story and the flawless progression of the storyline was really commendable. The director should have won an award on these two things alone. Lastly, the near perfect and unforgettable performances from Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett completed the success that this movie turned-out to be. The way they both ingeniously gave life to their characters and worked seamlessly well with and against one another on screen was so spectacular to watch that you'reliterally going to be pulled to edge of your seat from start to finish, swept in an emotional upheaval for each of them. Both of their awards were very much deserved. On a personal note, I really liked the splendidly eloquent and scathingly bitter narration of Judi Dench of the entire film, especially since I really like well narrated movies. Definitely, this movie is a must-see.

The Last Samurai (2003,  R)
The Last Samurai
Suprisingly, I had qualms with watching this movie at first. I guess Tom Cruise in a Japanese period film just didn't add up for me. But when I finaly did watch it, I was completely blown away! Visually, the film was just incredible. Aside from the director's obvious expertise with the lens, this is an obvious given how I love period films of any kind and how fascinated I am with Japanese culture. Aside from that, the cinematography was just superb, the story progression as smooth as butter, and I applaud the success of the director in effectively translating the multi-faceted story of the film onscreen. Not only that, the movie's climax was just heart-wrenchingly tragic, beautiful, and unforgettable. On the other hand though, I'm not sure if Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe we're the best choices to play the lead roles. At the moment, I leave this thought, for now, as inconclusive
